Not actually.

I think that he can play any system, for that matter.

So, you think he can... but that's not the necessarily the same as '...he can play in any system.'

Last year, as the season went on, they started putting McCoy more and more into the shotgun to help him out. I see no reason that they couldn't do the same for a rookie QB as he becomes more comfortable under center.

Because I don't think that RG3 has ever take a snap 'under center'.

Since one of his degrees is in political science, you could say that he's smart enough to be a politician.

Griffin took plenty of snaps under center. Obviously a majority of his snaps came from the shotgun but he did play under center a little too.

Tons of quarterbacks have made the transition. No reason to a believe Griffin can't.

Care to elaborate on why he can't be a WCO QB?

IF this ends up this way we MUST go get Griffin...DO NOT wait for him to come to you...Not a QB...Go get em'...

I agree and said so in another thread on the topic.

I am not sold the Vikings won't take him. I don't care if they have Pounder.

If we want RG3, we best lose our 1B pick and go get him. I don't wait and end up getting snookered. That would be the worst thing that could happen.

I go get him and not worry about some guy on a message board complaining about us over paying.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

In 2011, the pass defense played in the Big 12 Conference ranked the worst in Div 1 football. A fact that should be considered when judging the talent that played in the Big 12 conference.

Untrue and it is one of the reasons that I have doubts about Griffin. He was lucky to take more than one snap from under center in 4 or 5 games.

yes, what you have to do is look at what a team gave up and look at what Baylor did against them. Baylor consistently was getting at or near season highs in yards and points against the teams they were playing.

they had a good offense. it was a college offense, so it's not completely projectable, but it was good. end of story.

back on topic. thanks to CleveSteve and the others that gave a synopsis. I haven't been able to follow as closely this year as I have in the past and am thankful for getting to read your views.

here are the guys that I was hoping would show something that you mentioned:

Quote:

Adams, Mike OT Ohio State-- he really brought his A-game this week. For getting knocked pretty hard on this board leading up to the week, he really dominated at every opportunity.

Johnson, Cam DE Virginia-- Here's one of my top-5 performers for the week. He really seemed like a natural pass rusher out there. CBS has him rated as a third rounder and I like him... probably moreso than Curry. He was playing like he knew what he was doing. Seemed like a veteran.

Posey, DeVier WR Ohio State-- The guy gets open. He did it here in practice, too.

Iloka, George DB Boise State-- I liked his size/athleticism combo, but if he really is a third round and second-best FS prospect, then I think that takes us out of the running for him.

Criner, Juron WR Arizona-- Seemed really focused. Was out there with a chip on his shoulder. This is looking like a great draft for mid-round wideouts. He was super locked-in and made a terrific one-handed catch away from his body on a comeback route that had the DB shaking his head.

Ingram, Melvin DE/OLB South Carolina-- He's kind of a mystery to me. He was very all-or-nothing all week. He'd either shoot right by his blocker, even winning on a bull rush a couple of times, or he'd get completely shut down. He ran right through/over the UAB tackle but looked like a child being held at arm's length by Glenn.

Adams, Joe WR Arkansas-- Quick and fast, he was able to get open and get the ball. A strong showing in the game only helps him. Hopefully, he pushed some distance between him and Jairus Wright. I'd like to get Wright with one of our two 4ths if possible.

Allen, Jeff OL Illinois-- I thought he was extremely impressive in both the pit and the team drills. Mayock, Davis, and Burmeister didn't talk about him at all in either practice broadcast, but he really stood out to me. Man, a lot of good guard prospects in this draft. I only saw him line up at OG, but CBS lists him as an OT prospect for the 5-6 round. He looked really comfortable at LG, though. I would have liked to see if he can play OT. If he's there in the 5th or 6th, I'd definitely consider pulling the trigger on him.

Allen, Antonio DB South Carolina-- He was just all over the place. Really looked good in coverage and wasn't afraid to mix it up. He's listed on CBS as a 3rd-round SS, but he looked to me to be a good candidate to play the FS spot. I'd definitely consider him with our 3rd round pick.

Rainey, Chris RB/WR Florida-- Ho. Lee. Smokes. He is fast. Not just fast, but faaaast. He got on top of and past his defender so quickly. I had to rewind it just to show my wife.

Disappointing

Martin, Mike DL Michigan-- He was beating up Brewster all week, but seems like he's so focused on his matchup that he has no idea where the ball is. There's probably a scheme that calls for that, but for our team we need as many people trying to tackle as we can get.

Osemele, Kelechi OT Iowa State-- Yes, he's listed as both impressive and unimpressive here. As good as he looked at OG, I thought he looked just as bad at OT. That's disappointing to me, because he might be there when we pick in the third.

Fuller, Jeff WR Texas A&M-- Played like crap in practices.

Hayward, Casey DB Vanderbilt-- I was excited to see him, but he was chasing all week. I remembered seeing some first-round buzz earlier this year, but now wouldn't be surprised if he turns out to be a day 3 pick. Just could not keep up.

Sanders, Zebrie OL Florida State-- I was expecting him to be the top OT on the South squad. I thought Glenn clearly outplayed him, even at OT. If he gets drafted in the second round, I think someone overdrafted him

Vlachos, William OL Alabama-- Had his ups and downs. He looked OK on one matchup then would get beaten back on the next. Maybe out of shape? Why would you be out of shape?

really disheartening to hear about how bad some of the 2nd/3rd round OL prospects are looking. practices are designed to give the DL an advantage (less teamwork, OL doesn't have the advantage to knowing the play, etc), but you still want to see them do well.

makes me think that we could pull the trigger on Mike Adams if he does fall to #22 (which is looking less likely). oh well, maybe just wait on Levy Adcock in the 3rd if he drops there.

Broyles (injured and likely a PUP-guy to begin next season), Criner, and Fuller are my favorite 4th/5th round WRs. I would love to see us get Criner. Not good to see Fuller struggle in practices as he should shine there (as Sherman practices should have at least resembled what they were asked to do pretty well).

He hasn't played in the WCO... ever. His entire college career has been played with a gimmicky college scheme where he had a target progression of two players and if either one wasn't open, running was the alternative.

With his size, running will get him in the hospital by the third week of him finding the field.

Looks like Rob Rang mostly agreed with me... with a few exceptions

http://rob-rang.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/13682485/34604680

The Senior Bowl is scheduled to begin at 4 pm eastern time and you can bet there will be plenty of NFL scouts who will be watching the game.

Not nearly as many will be watching the game, itself, however, as took in the practices throughout the week. Quite frankly, the Senior Bowl is like any other all-star game in football or other sport, the players participating in it are largely decided based on popularity rather than talent.

It remains to be seen which players will help their stock during the game, itself.

Here are the players from the offensive units on the North and South squads making my All-Practice Team.

QB: Kirk Cousins, Michigan State -- Accurate, poised and athletic, Cousins could enjoy a late Andy Dalton-like rise up draft boards this spring.
RB: Doug Martin, Boise State -- Quick, powerful and performing well as a pass blocker and receiver, Martin's strong week places thrusts him into the conversation to be the No. 2 running back drafted behind Alabama's Trent Richardson.
FB: Brad Smelley, Alabama -- Is more of an H-back than a traditional human pile-driving lead blocker. Reliable hands. Consistent effort.
TE: Ladarius Green, Louisiana-Lafayette -- Athletic receiver hybrid that some teams will envision as a poor man's Jimmy Graham.
WR: Marvin Jones, California -- May have boosted his stock more than any other player this week. Good size, routes and caught everything.
WR: Joe Adams, Arkansas -- Narrowly beat out Arizona's Juron Criner but speed kills... and Adams certainly has speed.
OT: Mike Adams, Ohio State -- More inconsistent than I'd like but was able to handle some of the game's best due to his length, athleticism.
OG: Kevin Zeitler, Wisconsin -- Again, a bit inconsistent but mostly during one on one drills. During scrimmages, Zeitler played well.
OC: Ben Jones, Georgia -- Not flashy, but a tough matchup for the South's defensive tackles all week long.
OG: Tony Bergstrom, Utah -- Got beat early on but improved throughout the week. Solid performance from a player many were unfamiliar with.
OT: Mitchell Schwartz, California -- Like Bergstrom, struggled a bit early but improved throughout the week. Even saw some time inside at OC when injuries forced the North squad to shufle their linemen. Projects best as a RT.

And the defensive players:

DE: Quinton Coples, North Carolina -- Unquestionably the most talented player in this game. Has been unblockable, at times.
DT: Mike Martin, Michigan -- Possesses great strength in the hole and a relentless that coaches will love.
DT: Kendall Reyes, Connecticut -- Possesses a better combination of athleticism and strength than some of the more hyped DTs in attendance.
DE: Courtney Upshaw, Alabama -- Solidified his ranking as my No. 1 rated senior prospect in the 2012 draft. Powerful, versatile, instinctive.
OLB: Shea McClellin, Boise State -- Saw a lot of time at weakside linebacker and really impressed... not just me, but scouts, Mike Singletary...
ILB: Audie Cole, NC State -- The biggest ILB here and moved as well as most of the smaller ones.
OLB: Lavonte David, Nebraska -- So fluid that some teams will look at him as a SS convert. Athletic, instinctive and a terrific open-field tackler.
CB: Janoris Jenkins, North Alabama -- Beaten on occasion, but his agility, speed make him the elite senior cornerback in the 2012 draft.
S: George Iloka, Boise State -- Big, athletic and instinctive. Made an impressive interception Tuesday...
S: Antonio Allen, South Carolina -- Demonstrated some fluidity as well as a willingness to make some big hits.
CB: Dwight Bentley, Louisiana Lafayette -- Few players helped themselves more than this late addition. Proved he belonged.

with Adams rocketing up the boards, will he be there at #22?

(then again, Carimi was "rocketing" this time last year and he ended up "falling" back to the end of the 1st round with the Bears)

Adams is a wall off blocker for LT. He simple does not have the power and bend to be a big old drive blocking RT in this blocking scheme.

Glenn however could be a target, he is everything Heckert wants in a RT. Another Shawn Andrews type.

I don't get the Adams-hype...at all...if I was picking 15+ and would need a LT I would throw the dice, but we "just" need a RT and have a million of other needs, so I would not throw millions at an underachiever and hope he still is motivated enough to play RT...

OL is all about consistency and Adams just is NOT (even in SR Bowl practices, reports of his play have been all over the place...to me that means he was very inconsistent...he's the OL version of Coples imho)....there are enough decent RT-types with lower ceiling but also higher floors (and projected to be more consistent) later in the draft (Potter, Schwartz, Zusevicz)

I've liked Adcock all season and if I think that he's there in the 3rd round, I would take him there.

I keep reading major mixed reports on Osemele and I didn't ever really watch him (I saw Iowa State play once, but didn't really watch him).

Schwartz was good when I saw him. He could be a mid-round guy, but I want to be sure we are actually fixing the RT spot. I don't want another year of guys just breezing in from the right side.

Best of '12 Senior Bowl

Mike Detillier
Sports Correpsondent

Here is my take on some of the standout performers during the practice sessions leading up to the 2012 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

The Best Player on the Field: Georgia offensive tackle Cordy Glenn.

Most looked at Glenn strictly as a guard, but the 6-5¼, 340-pounder dominated the practice sessions at left tackle. He showed tremendous foot speed and agility and his hand-placement skills and his ability to adjust to quick movement was the most impressive feature of Senior Bowl practices. He practically stoned every speed pass rusher that lined up against him and he moved himself up from being a late first-round choice to the middle part of the opening round.

He Sure Looks the Part: North Carolina defensive end Quinton Coples.

NFL teams are in great need for pass rushers and people who can consistently put pressure on the quarterback. Alabama outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw and South Carolina defensive end/outside linebacker Melvin Ingram were impressive all week getting up the field and rushing the quarterback, but the one guy that had everyone talking was Coples. The 6-5 ¾, 282-pounder got off to a slow start after switching sides as a defensive end in 2011, but he really caught my eye with his quick up the field moves, his ability to use his long arms and huge hands to shed off would-be blockers, and he showed good instincts in tracking down the ballcarrier. While I believe that LSU's Michael Brockers will be the first defensive lineman off the board, it won't take long for Coples' name to follow.

Loved his Mental Toughness: UL-Lafayette cornerback Dwight Bentley.

I have flown the Bentley flag for quite a few months, and he more than showed that he deserves consideration to be a Top 100 pick in April's draft. He is not the biggest cornerback in this draft class at 5-9 ½, 177 pounds, but I liked his quick feet, his excellent recovery speed, his hard plant and drive skills to the football and his outstanding ball reaction skills. But what I really liked was that when he lined up against tougher competition than he was used to being against on a weekly basis at UL-Lafayette he showed a good case of amnesia, and he didn't allow one bad play to affect his next series on the practice field. In so many ways he reminds me of former Nicholls State defensive back and current Baltimore Ravens cornerback Lardarius Webb. I expect Bentley to come off the draft board early in Round 3.

The Charles Atlas Award: Utah State outside linebacker Bobby Wagner.

The 6-0 ½, 242-pound fist team all-Western Athletic Conference linebacker looks as though someone has carved him out of granite. He has a super build, a very muscular upper-body, a huge wingspan and for a 240-pounder Wagner has excellent lateral foot speed and explosive hitting qualities on the move. Last season Wagner racked up 147 tackles and recorded 11 ½ tackles for losses and coaches at the Senior Bowl were impressed on how quickly he picked up pro style techniques as a cover linebacker and also in taking better angles to the ballcarrier. Look for Wagner to be selected late in Round 2. The Scary Guy: Florida wide receiver Chris Rainey.

Rainey played most of his college career at halfback for the Gators, but when you questioned defensive backs on who was the hardest guy to cover, it was almost unanimous that the speedster from Florida who won that honor. He really looked comfortable at wide receiver, and while it is obvious he needs work on perfecting his route running skills, he has unique skills to set up defensive backs, jet up the field in a flash and he has good eye-hand coordination. Look for a team to draft Rainey in the middle part of Round 2.

The Next Michael Turner: Boise State halfback Doug Martin.

Martin was overshadowed in college by the passing skills of Kellen Moore at Boise State, but this tough, hard-nosed runner has excellent field vision, outstanding body balance, and he gets a ton of yardage after initial contact. Martin is also a good receiver coming out of the backfield, and he looked natural as a pass protector. Martin will not get out of the second round.

The Best Passer in Mobile: Oklahoma State Quarterback Brandon Weeden.

He will get downgraded due to the fact that he will be a 28-year old rookie, but this young man was accurate with his throws, showed good anticipation skills, and he had good touch on just about every throw. While Weeden doesn't have the strongest arm, he was certainly the most accurate passer, and he made the most of the absence of Texas A&M's Ryan Tannehill, who missed the game due to a foot injury.

Didn't want to start a new thread...here's the next "All Star" game, mostly 5th round to UDFA specs....some of those could be our comp selections....here's a full roster, with measurables:

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Players-AllStar-Classic-Weighin-Results.html

1st time I saw DE Joiner from Arky St. mentioned somewhere, he's not even in draftscout's top 750...guy had 19 TFL and 13 sacks last season

For RT Carmon from Miss St is an interesting guy worth watching

DL Roy and LB Trevathan are the "big name" guys in this game

Hey Steve....thanks for starting this thread in the informative manner in which you did.

I've gone back and read most of the comments a second time. Really guys, this was a good thread. Ton's of information, enough humor to keep it light, and very little of the "Tastes Great!....Less Filling!" bickering that happens this time of year.

Thanks!
