WACO, Texas -- Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III met again Monday with his coach as he decides whether he will declare for the NFL draft.

Griffin is projected to be one of the top picks in April if he declares for the draft. The deadline for underclassmen to declare is Sunday.

Earlier this month, ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen reported that the Heisman Trophy winner will declare for the draft, according to sources. His father, Robert Griffin II, told Mortensen that Griffin III would meet with prospective agents and make an announcement before the Jan. 15 deadline.

Subsequently, Griffin III, in a text to ESPN.com's David Ubben, and a Baylor spokesperson both said Griffin III had not yet made up his mind.

"It's a situation where he's really contemplating what he feels like is the thing that's going to give him peace," coach Art Briles said.

Baylor this season matched a school record with 10 wins and won its last six games, including a record-breaking 67-56 victory over Washington in the Alamo Bowl. Griffin was the nation's most efficient passer, throwing for 4,293 yards with 37 touchdowns and only six interceptions. He ran for 699 yards and 10 more scores.

Briles said he is for whatever Griffin feels is the right thing to do, whether it's the NFL or coming back to play as a senior at Baylor.

"Like I told him from day one, I don't want to be any influence on it," Briles said. "My goal for him is for him to be successful and fulfill all of his dreams. If that dream is going to the NFL right now, that's great."

After meeting last week, Griffin and Briles met again on the day a new semester of classes started on the Waco campus.

Griffin, who arrived at Baylor in January 2008 after graduating high school a semester early, got his undergraduate degree in political sciences in December 2010 and is working on a masters in communication.

Griffin, who played this season as a fourth-year junior, has another of year of eligibility remaining at Baylor because he got a medical redshirt after he tore the ACL in his right knee in the third game of the 2009 season.

In 41 games for the Bears, he has completed 800 of 1,192 passes (67 percent) for 10,366 yards with 78 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. He has run for 2,254 yards and 33 TDs and set at least 46 school records.

Or he won't be a Brown because he's not worth the #4 overall pick and goes later in the draft.

I could see him drop to the 6-10 range. Then again I don't like him as a prospect at all so maybe I'm just jaded.

I have no idea what he would improve if he returns.

He would be 1A/1B with Barkley as far as QBs go ...... and if the "wrong teams" get into the top 5, he could still wind up at 3-5. (even with another great year)

I am fairly certain he will be in this year's draft ..... but I saw no way that Luck would stay in school last year .... so who knows?

I think the new CBA with much much smaller rookie contracts (a good thing IMO) will make us start to see more and more kids deciding to stay in school an extra year like Luck last year and Barkley this year as opposed to coming out early. We might have a similar situation with RG3. Time will tell.

Why? It's not like they'll get more next year?

I can't see a 22yo kid thinking "well, if it was for $60M, but $25M, pffft"

I can't think of a single person on this forum doing that either

Yeah .... a rookie will never make back that money .... unless he truly feels that he is not ready for the NFL. That is the only real reason for a kid to return to school if he is expected to go in the top 5.

" RG3 still not sure about NFL draft" - One can only hope this is the case. If the possiblity of Becoming a Brown is making these kids return to School then I am glad they are doing us the Favor. I am willing to bet that if RG3 goes back to school he drops in next years draft.

He Plays at BAylor.

He has a chance to be a top 10 pick in the 1st round.

It is a No Brainer, if he goes back he will be hurting his position by next year.

The only way he could improve his stock is to set records at a school better than Baylor. If he goes back to the school where he already set records and even improves on his records, it doesn't improve his stock any.

If he goes back, it is because he likes the college game and or wants to please his college coach and team.
Not Smart.

No matter what he does, he has no chance to be the #1 overall pick next year, even if he throws 100 td's, because the school is Baylor.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

What if the school is Fresno State? Utah? Kentucky? Washington State? Louisiana Tech? Rice? Vanderbilt?

All had QBs from their schools selected #1 overall.

Oh by the way there was a WR selected first overall.....from Baylor: Laurence Elkins.

Or he's worried that the Browns will trade the selection to the Redskins and he's even more disturbed by that.

Maybe...

Before declaring for the draft, Griffin should be put through a simulated NFL workout. If Griffin shows he can make all the throws with accuracy, then he should probably go.

The only thing I can see that would drop Griffin down the draft boards, would be a poor work out during pro day or during individual workouts for the teams interested.

I believe his performance during the bowl game did little to boost his draft position because the Washington defense was so poor. Also, it seems others have picked up on something I brought up early on...that the pass defense played in the Big 12 conference is poor.

There are still some doubts about Griffin's ability to produce at the next level. Has Griffin's experience in college prepared him well for the NFL...or will Griffin be somewhat of a project that needs a couple years or longer to develop his skills and digest the pro style offense?

If Griffin, his parents or advisors have doubts about his ability to perform at the next level, he might be better off going back to college for another year of experience.

Isn't his main WR in this draft as well? So if he stays, he's also losing his main target. I see him going nowhere but down if he stayed.

Yeah, his stock can only go down if he returns. I can understand him not wanting to go to any low teams, but that's kinda how the draft works.

Smart kid,, giving some thought to it before he jumps in the NFL Pool..

Having said that, what's he got to gain from another year in school. he's got his BS done and is on his way to a Masters (which he can complete anytime), he's got the Heisman already..

Why stay another year?

Don't expect Claiborne or Blackmon to be a Brown..I might be wrong..it's early but I have a feeling they may like Floyd a tad better than Blackmon..actually I like Blackmon..if I were calling the shot it would be hard for me not to take Claiborne..but considering the team needs a QB and a WR BADLY..might have to pass him up..but I kinda like Kirkpatrick also.
The QB the Browns may be targeting is more likely Tannehill..they may shock me by taking Griffith,I think RT is the one they want..he's more of a WCO QB..

If I am Griffin, I would seriously go back to College and think hard about transferring to a different school. Maybe He could do a 1 year stint at Stanford. It will show if he is able to run a real NFL Offense and pick up a system.

He'd have to sit out one year to transfer. So then he'd be skipping the draft for two years to do what, improve his draft stock? He's already going to be drafted in the top 5.

He doesn't need to show anyone he can run an NFL offense. He can do that in the NFL. His potential is already through the roof. A QB would only need to worry about showing that off if he was projected to be a mid-to-late round draft pick.

I forgot about that. It's as sarcastic as someone calling him a Franchise QB..lol

I think that's "potential franchise QB".

I have often said that there is some risk involved with drafting him, but that I think that he has the talent and intelligence to become that kind of franchise player.

No. I've seen people label him a Franchise QB on here. I totally disagree with this.

Then you’re just as appalled as I am when people on here are suggesting we should give up multiple (3 or more) first round picks and more for the guaranteed franchise, Pro Bowl and HOF QB named Andrew Luck.

I'm pretty sure he'll come out, but I think he's going to be a Redskin.

I just don't think he makes sense for the Browns. He doesn't fit into the type of offense run here and I think if you're talking about a QB competiton for Colt, it's more likely they'll bring in someone like Flynn to compete than draft the second-highest rated QB to compete. You don't bring a guy like that in merely to compete.

I don't think the Browns are completely sold on McCoy but I don't think the are ready to give up on him either, and I don't think you waste a pick on RG3 unless you are completely done with McCoy.

I have often said that he is a potential franchise guy. Nothing is ever certain. #1 overall guys bust, and 6th rounders like Tom Brady can make it to multiple Super Bowls ..... but Brady is not the norm. Most of the guys to win Super Bowls lately are 1st round picks ..... (or a very high 2nd rounder) ..... or Brady.

Here are the last 10 Super Bowls, played under increasingly pass friendly rules:

1st rounder Rodgers over 1st rounder Roethlisberger
High 2nd rounder Brees over 1st rounder P. Manning
1st rounder Roethlisberger over success story Warner
1st rounder Eli Manning over 6th rounder Tom Brady
1st rounder P Manning over 1st rounder Grossman
1st rounder Roethlisberger over 6th rounder Hasselbeck
6th rounder Brady over 1st rounder McNabb
6th rounder Brady over UDFA Delhomme
9th rounder Johnson over 4th rounder Gannon
6th rounder Brady over UDFA Warner

With the exception of Brad Johnson, each and every winner of the last 10 Super Bowls was a team with an elite QB ..... either a 1st round pick, a super high 2nd round, or a special overlooked talent like Brady or Warner.

5 of the last 6 Super Bowls have been won by 1st round QBs, and Brees was drafted at #32 overall in 2001...... which would be a 1st round pick today.

Out f this list, I would rate the following as not being "Franchise QBs". (out of 20 spots)

Grossman
Delhomme
Johnson
Gannon

McNabb was a borderline guy in his prime. He was never a true franchise guy, but he was an above average QB. Anyway, we'll call him a "not".

That means that 15 participant at QB were franchise QBs, and 5 were not.

4 "franchise" QBs played in more than 1 Super Bowl.

I would rather try to find that guy that to try and build a perfect team everywhere else.

That is good research YTown thanks for posting i!t I respect your opinion but I have to disagree with you. Most of the QB's you mentioned went to a really good situation and a solid team ala Rodgers and Roethlesburger. Manning Struggled at first and it took ten years to build a team around him and get to that SuperBowl. But Hey everyone has their own philosophy. You have to look at their Defenses and weapons and continuity in the system too.

I honestly don't believe he and most of these guys care what city they go play for. Especially a QB who has a chance to change the culture of a team. I mean if he were to somehow go to the Patriots, he gonna be ok with sitting behind brady for another 5 years? If you want to start right away or even have a shot at doing so, you're going to have to go to a situation like the Browns where they have big question marks at QB. Also happens to be convienient that most of these teams are picking very high, lol.

I don't want to say he's a lock to come out, since Montee Ball burned me last week, but even more here, RG3 would be kind of a moron to play another year. I don't think his stock goes any higher. He can play his ass off next year and still be behind Matt Barkley and who knows who else comes out? Strike while the iron is hot. I can understand Barkley coming back, because I can't see his stock falling too hard, and I think next year could be very special for USC.

Honestly, in all the praise I've given RGIII, I haven't once talked about him running. And I don't mean avoiding the rush, I think that's a critical aspect of his success (especially behind that horrid O-Line.) My praise of him has to do with his ability to max-throw the ball, the ability to know when to take something off of it, the ability to drop deep passes on his receivers' heads, his ability to keep his eyes downfield when escaping the rush, to hit wideouts in stride, to put passes away from defenders... basically all the things a QB should be able to do to be successful in the NFL.

I wouldn't be surprised if he actually had fewer detractors if he wasn't so darned fast. I don't want him running at all. I want him standing back there expanding the defense by 20 yards and putting the ball on receivers and letting them run.

Interesting. I can't wait for his pro day and the combine (if he comes out AND attends). If he's got the arm you say, then he'll go top 4 for sure.

Would that make him a better initial prospect than Michael Vick? He had the legs and strong arm....but not the accuracy or understanding of the game.

He will come out, he has 5 more days to make it official, but my guess sometime today or tomorrow he will announce it.

He will be a big draw at the combine and his pro day. Wonder if he will run at the combine, just curious, even though I don't put a lot of stock into 40 times.
