I've seen some reports on him that say he's a 1st rounder..maybe even top 15.. others say he's a sure second rounder.
Question, is he the kinda guy that would be too good to pass up in the second round if he's there?
And yeah, he's frank minnifields son.... not that that matters

Would depend on what we did in the first, FA, etc, but yes if he's there in the 2nd and no one else has fallen then we should jump up to pick him immediately. Still have the combine and workouts to know definitively, but I have almost gotten through all the Virginia games and he is very good. Maybe even our 22nd, depending on the above mentioned things.
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).

I fully expect GB to take him with their 1st round pick and pair him up with their Clay Matthews (they need CBs so it fits need too).
I like him but don't expect him to be there at #37 and I think we have more pressing needs with our first 2 picks.

I really want a WR with our pick at 22 if we QB with #4 however if they selected Chase at 22 I wouldnt complain at all. If he fell to us in the 2nd round I would be all over it again if Heckert thinks he's the player. Would be fun instead of Hanford and Minni you would have Haden and Minni lets get the Dogs barking again.

I'm in the "sure, if he falls to us in the 2nd and Heckert really likes him" camp . . . I just read a mock where he goes to the Steelers in the first. Where's the vomiting graemlin . . . ?

that actually sounds like fun.. Frank Minnifield was really small by comparison.. 5' 8" or something like that and maybe 150 LBS.. small guy compared to Chase who comes in at 6'1" and 185 lbs..
If he's as good as his father (and I don't know one way or the other) him and Haden could be an outstanding duo for the next 8 to 10 years.. wouldn't that be refreshing to have at least that locked down..
I have not watched him play., Only thing I've seen is some clips and you know how misleading they can be. But he did look pretty good.
The only reason I even brought it up is because in today PD website, Grossi is saying we're interested in him..
Grossi is probably persona non grata in Berea, so I wonder how he would know.. probably just making it up again.

How weird/ironic would that be? The sons of 2 great players playing on a team together. (matthews jr. is good - we'll see what minnifield jr does).

This web page gives a pretty good review of him. They have him listed as the 6th best CB but he won alot of awards. Didn't see the Grossi thing yet but as you said he's in the dog house right now so almost everything he writes for a while will be his own speculation.

http://www.cleveland.com/ohio-sports-blog/index.ssf/2012/01/cleveland_browns_will_give_a_h.htmlI didn't watch SBTV either, but the headline is saying Grossi is thinking that the browns are interested in Minnifield You have to understand that he's most likely saying that to pull on the heart strings of Browns fans..

I'd love to see Minnifield in a Browns uni at #37.
RGIII at #4. Kendell Wright at #22. Minnifield at #37!
Do it Heckert!

I'd take that.

I dont think many would have a problem with that draft. Means Heckert likes RGIII and that means we have our QB WR and CB all wrapped up in 2 rounds.

I dunno. I'd rather us try to re-sign Demitri Patterson. Between him and Skrine, I think we're okay a CB and have more pressing needs. Patterson is young and tenacious.
I'd rather us look into a DE within the 2nd round or 1B. A lot of our needs depend on FA. But if we were to draft now, knowing we'll resign Patterson, I want a DE and LB before a CB for sure. Especially a DE. Another good DE is key to pass defense. Just looking at weaknesses, we have no LB to cover for the weakside or middle linebacker spots (one we can assume will be covered by Jackson). I'd rather have Patterson at CB than Maiava at LB.
Also, RT has to be picked very high as well. Of course, Free Agency will tell us where we need to head in the draft. But my most important positions are WR, RT, LB, DE. All four are gonna have to be covered. None of those are CB.

I like this idea better too. I do think Minni jr. will be good but we have so many other needs. I did get some inside info on him seeing as my ups driver is his uncle

LOL,, that's funny that you know his uncle
Anyway, as for the other needs..well, the one that's glaring with those picks is, we still need a RB,,,,
but we might be able to get by for one year using Hardesty, Obie and Jackson. we might have to unless somewhere later on in the draft we happen to hit gold with a RB..
we do need a RT still and for sure another LB and probably another safety and a DE but we can probably get some of this via FA. so,, I like those first three picks. it works for me on all levels.

Who cares where they went to school? Jerry Rice went to a much smaller school than Baylor. How'd that turn out?

not suire if its the school or the players but yeah everyone is going to have players they like/want and others they want no part of. I personally really am not sold on RGIII but this year I actually have a calm that Heckert will make good choices and continue to make this team better.
There for I can like whatever player I want and so can everyone else, there is no I told you so here, its just kinda have fun with it and enjoy the ride see what shakes out and root for the new guys be it my personal fav Blackmon at 4 someone else's fav whomever that player is. jm2c

Right. If people have concerns over players I completely understand. Just bothers me when people don't like a player because they aren't from some traditional powerhouse.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

One year ago today, did you even know either of those guys?
The BIG 12 has not been spitting out top tier QBS or WRs lately...if ever...Baylor has earned the reputation that I mentioned above.
A BIG 12 QB from Baylor who was virtually unknown last year at the #4 overall pick? That would be nuts. The only thing crazier would be to trade UP to get him even earlier.
Then to follow up that nonsense with taking his running mate at WR - a 5'10" 190 lb WR - at #21 overall? (Rice was 6'2")
A Baylor QB over - for example - an LSU DB with the conferences they play in and their recent histories of creating players who go to the NFL?
Given the current state of our roster, the players we are talking about from Baylor, the draft positions we would use to get them, and the weak Big 12... I'd say we would be downright incompetent to go that route.
Two skill players from Baylor in the first round? TWO? Are there ANY skill players from Baylor in the NFL?
I stand in my comment that I want NOTHING to do with a #4 overall QB from BAYLOR and/or a #21 overall, 5' 10" WR from BAYLOR.

Amen. Going into this season assuming we're set at CB is like going into a season thinking we're set at O-Line and WR. Deja vu all over again . . .
Of course, MAYBE we are w/ Skrine & Patterson, but that feels like a BIG IF . . .

Color me confused (big news there) but really, what does it matter where a kid went to school. I mean, if he can play, what's the diff?

The comment is based on my skepticism that the kid in question "can play" at the NFL level after staring for one year in a average-at-best conference.
It does not matter where he went to school...UNLESS that school has no history of producing offensive skill position players in the NFL...UNLESS that school plays in an average-at-best football conference...UNLESS that player starred in a system that no NFL team will run...UNLESS the player from said school pops up out of no where for his senior year...UNLESS you are talking about the #4 overall pick - or #21 for that matter.
It's like taking Mike Junkin - the DUKE LBer - early in the draft. A linebacker from DUKE? Yeah...it's possible. But one better be darn sure before burning a top pick on a guy playing that position from that school.
I do not see ANYTHING in RGIII as an NFL QB that would make me take him at #4 overall - let alone higher than that. If he played at LSU or Alabama and suddenly was unstoppable in the conference - even if only for his senior year - then I would be more inclined to take the chance. But Baylor? Hell no.
The fact that these guys are from BAYLOR only makes me less inclined to take the risk because they SHOULD look good playing in THAT conference.
If he looked like the next coming of Elway/Manning and played at a D2 school I wouldn't care where he went to school. However, he is clearly not the next Elway/Manning. In my opinion, I think he is the next Troy Smith...except he shined on a stage at BAYLOR.
All that said, it's easier to say this:
A QB and WR from Baylor in the first round? No thanks.

I'm not sure I want a DB named "Chase". Seriously, I wonder if he has his Dad's speed, agility, and hops. Frank had something like a 40" vertical, IIRC. It allowed him to cover much taller receivers. I think I read that Chase is over 6', which would be very good size if he inherited his father's other attributes.

OK,, I see what your driving at., you are looking at the level of competition they faced in college. ie: A great player facing great competition in college should translate to a guy that can make it in the NFL.. Got it.. thanks

Should is the operative word...at #4 overall I want more than should. When picking in the top 5, the word should is not acceptable until Rd 3.
This Baylor QB has should locked up.

Every player is a "should" player. I'd say that's actually the sign of a good prospect. Then you get into your "could" players. Andrew Luck, Matt Kalil, Trent Richardson, Morris Claiborne--all "should" players.

So is RG3 a "should" or a "could"? Is he a very good "should" player right behind Luck or is he simply the next best at that position with a lot of talent separating the two? This is pick #4 or higher we're talking about here. I really don't want to take a QB high just because we're not satisfied with Colt. Some serious evaluation needs to be done here. Same thing about Blackmon. Is he really a #4 value or simply the best available in this draft? It doesn't appear that he's anywhere near an A.J. Green or even Julius Jones. So are we talking about a guy who is really out of the top 10 in talent but finds himself in it because he happens to be the best from a lack luster WR corp in the draft? Inquiring minds want to know.

Then you have guys who "should" be able to make it in the NFL. RGIII is a "should"... if for no other reason than his ridiculous athleticism.
Then you have guys who are believed to be "certain" to make it big in the NFL. Luck. Kalil, Claiborne et al
I am not sure if you are agreeing that we should not take RGIII at #4 overall or not. Not that it makes one of us right or wrong. (I say that because you did not include RGIII with the other players you mentioned.)
For sure, many "certains" have not panned out...but at #4 overall you'd better be certain.

I'd say RG3 should be a good quarterback, and he could be an elite quarterback. He's a top-10 pick in pretty well every draft, and a top-five pick in most.
I would agree with you entirely on Blackmon. He isn't near the prospect Jones or Green was, and, IMO, he should not be a top-10 pick. He's Hakeem Nicks in the NFL--solid, but not elite.

There is no doubt that no one is "certain"...but some are more likely to be "certain" than others. Luck v Griffin as an example.
Everyone thinks Luck is "ready"...most everyone thinks RGIII needs work. That doesn't sound like a #4 overall to me.
I think taking him at #4 is a mistake...I think moving up to take him is a monumental mistake.

I think it's safe to say that every player in college ball at any division is at least a COULD... Hell, I think Tom Brady, as a 6th round pick was really no more than a Could..I wonder if anyone would have been surprised had he been cut before his first season began.
but I get what you are saying and it makes sense to me. (which should make you question your thinking right there) But with just a word of caution., talent is where you find it and it shows up depending on what the team does with it.
Also, I would think that if you are picking a QB in the top 5 or 10. I would hope he'd be called a . "WILL" make it.

Well Daman..as usuall this is getting off topic...would I give any love for Chase... I don't know about love...But I sure would give him a chance..
If he has 1/2 of his fathers skills..it would be an exciting site to see him BARKING at the DAWG pound... which his father along with Hanford Dixon brought to this team... and what they brought..is still here and alive.. still have the Dawg pound..and we still bark like Dawgs...WOOF WOOF !!!!

No one is certain.
I would take RG3 at four and not look back.
Few quarterbacks don't need work. Cam Newton needed a ton of work...
