DB depth. Career backup, but a ball hawk who can play safety and corner. Not all that surprising since we let Russell go, I guess.

Kaesviharn is terrible. I have never heard 'ball hawk" and his name in the same sentence.

Thats what it is...Safety depth.

With Russell gone, we need some depth, and Kaesviharn isnt stellar, but hes a player...so I'm ok.

The guy had 6 INTs last year as a back-up.

Kaesviharn had a pretty good season by Bengal standards last year, I remember him having atleast one game ending interception. If you can't remember him well, think back to the big game Willie Green had against the Bengals.. He had a magnificent stiff arm on Kaesviharn where he completely lifted him up and threw him down while breaking a big run.

I assume Kaesviharn will be a backup safety if signed.

He started a few games, due to injuries. Stats can be very mis-leading.

Started due to injury... Hmm... Isn't that the definition of a backup?

i think the guy kinda sucks, but had a good year..

maybe a good comparison is Holly.. had lots of INTS.. but not really THAT great of a CB..

I would like to get a back-up safety with LOTS of PURE SPEED...

Kaesviharn sucks. I don't want him.

Resign Russell if we're going after him.

Russell signed with Seattle, so not an option.

Yes it is, very good! He was a back up for a poor Bengal defense, and they are letting him go. Hmm tell you something? The guy is terrible.

I think Savage is having a pretty good off-season, but I hope we don't get either of the Bengals. Kaesviharn is terrible. He stood out on the Bengals team because he was so bad.

And Smith slipping to 4th on their depth chart is not a good sign.

I don't like either of these guys. Reminds me of some of some of Savage's earlier moves, like Fisk, Stewart, Coleman, etc. Garbage to fill up the roster.

He is ok, noting special, about as good as Russell, maybe less. I think Phil may be doing this to show Russell he can sign someone else. I see Russell Re-signing.

of course, I could be totally wrong.

I guess I don't get you're point about him starting some games and stats being misleading. I'm not saying the guy is all pro, (he's obviously a backup as stated,) I'm not even saying we should sign him, but he does have value with his experience and versatility. The guy is a UFA, it's not like the Cats are cutting him or that their fans are cheering that he's leaving, and the team made him a perpetual captain in '03 (I think). You say he's terrible, but I have to wonder what is so terrible or misleading about 6 INTs & 4 sacks for a backup or situational player?

I'd understand signing them both, Smith because he's a better fit as a NT on our 3-4 than he is a DT on their 4-3, and KK because of his ability to play both safety spots as well as corner. Not saying either guy is a must have, (though I would like to sign Smith because of the major need at NT and it subtracts from a rival,) but they do make a certain amount of sense given our lack of depth and limited ops to draft players to step in even as a backup day 1. We're still way too thin on talent not to try and upgrade where we can, ie Smith for Parker or KK for Ben Emanuel. Ben who? Exactly.

A lot of times, a safety gets interceptions not because they made a good play, but because they are in zone coverage and the qb simply overthrows or underthrows the ball and it goes right to them. It happens all the time.

I remember this guy. He stood out...........because he was terrible. He gets burned a lot and I've seen RBs either make him look silly or just run right over him.

He is not nearly as good as Russell and this move makes no sense to me.

Are you saying that's how this guy got his six INTs? Is that how he got his four sacks too? The QB ran into his arms or fell down in front of him? (4 sacks, same amount Willie McG had as a starting OLB. )

Which running backs during which games? Was this after they got past the DEs, DTs, CBs & LBs? Was he playing near the line or deep? Was he at corner or safety?

No one is saying he's as good as Russell. Russell was a starter, this guy is clearly a backup. As far as "this move" goes, it's just a visit, not a signing. Russell left as a UFA for a five year contract. It's not like Savage traded him for KK.

I get it, you guys don't like him, he sucks, he's terrible, Savage is stupid for bringing him in for a chat... whatever... Personally, I'm not all gooey over this guy either, but I understand the value he could bring at depth in the secondary; experience, familiarity with Cincy's offensive looks, leadership as a vet and a Cincy team captain, etc. If, and I say if we signed him, it would be one less position we would need to draft/put a rookie at on the second team.

Man, I've been looking all over for that picture of William Green straightarming Kaesviharn to the ground. I wanted to post just that, but I can't find it. Now it's ruined.

j/k on you
'We interupt this itch season to bring you a comonsense bulletin"

You all do realize none of these contract signings mean squat until last cut before the season starts, right?

Who cares who or what we bring in to use as cannon fodder for practice as long as we know there is quality being signed at some point (Stienbach, Lewis, Fraley)

The point is the WR Phil just traded Droughns for was signed last year by the Browns and obviously cut before the season began or he would not have been a Giant. So all of this contract signing is really not that big of a deal to be bickering over.

Maybe most of just need something to itch about. Personally I don't see the need and wish a lot of this clutter I have to wade through was left out on the school yard.

No, we have never signed him. We looked at him, but never signed him. That said, you are correct that it doesn't matter.... as long as there is no signing bonus, but that doesn't happen this time of year. Bringing him accomplishes only one, maybe two things IMO. It hopefully makes Cinci pay a little more for him for one, and the second effect is that hopefully a cap-strapped Cinci declines to match on Smith as a result of feeling a need to pay more for Kaesviharn.

Other than that, it is useless to bring this guy in. I'd rather have Earl Little back at his current age than this guy.

LOL............and I get it too. Some of you guys act like every move he makes is golden. That's probably why we were 6 and 10 and 4 and 12 the last two years. That's probably why we had to fire a slew of coaches. All those genius moves.

Look............I find it extremely annoying how some of you need to bad-mouth those who don't worship the ground Savage walks on. I was not replying to you in my original post. I simply stated that I didn't think Kae was good and I hoped we didn't sign him. Of course, you felt the need to tell me how I should think. I was not trying to change your opinion on the move, I was just stating my own.

As I said before, there are several of you guys running around here telling us how to think. It's annoying as hell.

Gee, I can't wait for Norm Crosby to come on here and lay into me for having a negative thought about bringing in Kae.

One more thing. I find people much more credible if they sometimes have a positive reaction to one of the Brown's moves and sometimes have a negative reaction. If someone says each move sucks, I find it hard to take them seriously. And I find it hard to take someone seriously if they think each move is great. But......that's just me.

I dont really want Kaesviharn... even as a back-up.. he's too much of a liability when on the field IMO.

I just want a burner.. we need defensive burners.. i hate seeing speed HB's run pass our defense.. yet.. i don't want to spend a draft pick on a safety just for depth.

Wouldn't this guy be more of a low cost role player? Truth be known, like all teams, we need role players and depth, so if the price is right, I don't really find a big problem if we sign him..

Is he restricted or unrestricted,,, I wouldn't want to give any picks for this kid,,,

he's unrestricted.

As a dime back I guess he'd be Ok, but do we really want to be paying free agency type money for a dime back?
