Super Bowl Sunday is one of the big food days of the year, so this dawg is wondering what you are planning?

I normally make a batch of Clam Chowder, but with the Mrs. heading to Florida on business for a week later this morning, I am going to skip that...which leaves me wondering what I am going to do?

Maybe some lobster for lobster rolls to be in theme with the NE teams playing..who knows.

I think I will let you guys carry on the discussion and I will gain my inspiration from what some of you are cooking.

We're going Polish. Pigs in a blanket, kielbasa, mini pierogis and whatever else we can remember Busia making.

My wife makes a cheese dip and hot salsa combination we'll couple that with tortilla chips and flat flour tortillas. Then we'll have a mix of wings, potato skins, mini tacos, bite size corn dogs and probably some pizza rolls.

Margaritas will also be flowing.

I am in the same boat. Taking Pat to the airport in about 10 minutes.

Subway is always a good option, and have one less than 10 minutes from the house.

Every time I have Subway I feel like I just ate a lettuce sandwich. Feh, give me Mr Hero if I'm going with a chain sub sandwich.

Going to a Super Bowl party with some friends. I'm taking homemade mac and cheese to pair with the host's wings and nachos. I figure there will enough cookies and other dessert-like items.

It'll just be me, the hubs and the munchkin so it'll be small. I already picked up the mozzarella sticks. I'll pick up wings this weekend.Already have the carrot sticks and blue cheese. And I'll make a cheese dip with chips.

Nothing inspired or fancy - never do for the Super Bowl.

Pigs in a blanket is inspiring me a bit too, I already have some cresent rolls.

Same here only minus the Lettuce and Tomato ... Have a half slab of bacon to get cooked up, so I'm thinking of treating myself to the forbidden bacon and mayo Sandwich. Yum

Wrong pigs in a blanket. I'm talking about cabbage wrapped around meat and roasted in a tomato based sauce. Those weiners wrapped in crescent rolls are a fun snack too, though.

Ahhh! 'round these parts, we call that stuffed cabbage. LOL! I knew there were 2 versions of pigs in a blanket. I went with the one that would appeal to my husband most (he doesn't like cabbage).

Stuffed cabbage sound really good, plus we just got an electric roaster to try out. Here's a recipe I found on Food Network that sounds pretty good ...

Stuffed Cabbage Rolls (Galumpkis)

The Food Network

Ingredients

Sweet and Sour Tomato Sauce:
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 garlic cloves, smashed
1 1/2 quarts crushed tomatoes
2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
1 tablespoon sugar
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Cabbage Rolls:
11/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 yellow onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons tomato paste
Splash dry red wine
2 tablespoons chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
1 pound ground beef
1 pound ground pork
1 large egg
1 1/2 cups steamed white rice
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 large heads green cabbage, about 3 pounds each

To make the sauce:
Directions
Coat a 3-quart saucepan with the oil and place over medium heat. Add the garlic and saute for 1 minute. Add the tomatoes and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes. Add the vinegar and sugar; simmer, until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper and remove from the heat.

Place a skillet over medium heat and coat with 2 tablespoons of the olive oil. Sauté the onion and garlic for about 5 minutes, until soft. Stir in the tomato paste, a splash of wine, parsley, and 1/2 cup of the prepared sweet and sour tomato sauce, mix to incorporate and then take it off the heat. Combine the ground meat in a large mixing bowl. Add the egg, the cooked rice, and the sauteed onion mixture. Toss the filling together with your hands to combine, season with a generous amount of salt and pepper.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Remove the large, damaged outer leaves from the cabbages and set aside. Cut out the cores of the cabbages with a sharp knife and carefully pull off all the rest of the leaves, keeping them whole and as undamaged as possible, (get rid of all the small leaves and use them for coleslaw or whatever.) Blanch the cabbage leaves in the pot of boiling water for 5 minutes, or until pliable. Run the leaves under cool water then lay them out so you can assess just how many blankets you have to wrap up the filling. Next, carefully cut out the center vein from the leaves so they will be easier to roll up. Take the reserved big outer leaves and lay them on the bottom of a casserole pan, let part of the leaves hang out the sides of the pan. This insulation will prevent the cabbage rolls from burning on the bottom when baked. Use all the good looking leaves to make the cabbage rolls. Put about 1/2 cup of the meat filling in the center of the cabbage and starting at what was the stem-end, fold the sides in and roll up the cabbage to enclose the filling. Place the cabbage rolls side by side in rows, seam-side down, in a casserole pan.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Pour the remaining sweet and sour tomato sauce over the cabbage rolls. Fold the hanging leaves over the top to enclose and keep the moisture in. Drizzle the top with the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Bake for 1 hour until the meat is cooked.

Father In-Law is having the game (he's a Bears fan first, Patriots fan second). He always makes Chili for the game.

I will be bringing over my "Bacon Wrapped Barbecue Shrimp" as an appetizer.

Nothing....I don't even plan on watching the game. I'm tired of the the New York/Boston thing in sports.

Instead, I think I'll go hiking or out shooting (photos), it looks like a decent day out here.

Good thinking. In keeping with the New York team, I think I'll make greasy pizza and sell it to my guests for $7 a slice.

That sounds like the pigs Mama made....I know she used both beef and pork....I am going to as well.

I am motivated....I am wrapping them up tomorrow.

Electric roaster.....I don't have one, but something tells me I may by tomorrow afternoon. I am heading to the chef store tomorrow to check things out.

Nothing else to do. Might be a good way to roast veggies rather than fool around with the oven broiler.

I have about 10 lbs of country style ribs that is just dieing to make their way onto the grill. Smother them in a mixture of bullseye bbq sauce and cajun seasoning. will add a few burgers and doggies. I'll have leftovers for a few days later lol I'll also fix up a good batch of beer battered onion rings.

Nothing like a batch of steamers.

Those are what I mostly used when making my clam chowder, but with just me this year I didn't put in a order for any.

It takes time to make and if I am going to do it I am going to make a pot full, and that isn't a soup I really like sitting around for more than a day or so.

I found a nice pasta e fagioli recipe over the summer that I made for tomorrow. Taste just like the Olive Garden version. It serves a lot which works as a few friends of mine will be over tomorrow to watch the game.

For anyone interested, here's the recipe. I increased the hot sauce by a little bit which makes it just as spicy as the soup from Olive Garden. I highly recommend this to everyone.

I smoked a 3 pound pork loin for 3 hours yesterday. Then put it in the slow cooker with vinegar, brown sugar, red pepper, garlic, and onions last night before bed. This morning when I woke up I forked it apart and added some BBQ sauce. Now I'll slow cook it for another 4 hours. When it's done I'll grill/toast some hamburger buns and eat. Yum.

Hosting a Super Bowl gathering...

Do it yourself pizzas on Boboli crusts with all the pizza fixin's. Just make 'em and heat 'em up. But the star of the show will be the debut of two of my homebrewed beers, a double IPA and an autumn brown ale. Cannot wait to get going!!
