I'm growing tired of the public negotiations between Hillis and the Browns. The latest story concerning the low ball offer the Browns are said to have offered Hillis, is not helpful in the least.

If the Browns are going sign Hillis...do so...if not, CUT THE GUY.

Cut him? He's a UFA

Yep. Difficult to cut a UFA

Tulsa...yep, I said cut him...as in, cut him lose, let him go, tell him you are not interested in resigning him, stop the crap, stop screwing around, get serious, etc.

If one wants to be a "nitpicker" you could question the use of the phrase, "cut the guy"...but I believe most get what I'm saying.

The Browns have enough problems attracting free agents without this kind of publicity. If I were a free agent watching this play out in the press, I might scratch Cleveland off my list.

Yea, cut him !...as in end the dog and pony show...tell the guy to move on, we are done with you...get the point, Tulsa?

From what I've read (and what Hillis has said) it sounds like the Browns want to allow Hillis a chance to see what his market value is... of course since he keeps firing Agents it makes it tough to put a deal in place.

I suspect he'll get some interest on the FA market, but I would expect once he gets an agent he's happy with that there's a good chance he'll be back in a Browns uni.

Mac, I think they've done that with a 1.2 mil offer for 3 years and back loaded 4th and 5th (according to Hillis). Nothing says hit the bricks like a financial insult like that. Get the point, Mac?

I have a Butchie "Gyyuuttt feelin" that he will be back. I certainly hope so. All the hysteria, hype, mellodrama and you name it aside, we could use this Hoss around here. He is a damn good back when healthy and catches the rock, gets the tough yards and is just dynamic enough to be exciting.

Fumbling and injury issues aside, there is no sense letting this guy walk in his prime when you don't even have a viable alternative at the moment. I don't want to be forced to draft or sign another back, I would rather take one if we can still someone etc. I don't believe the guarantees will be anything too dramatic, so just get 'er done!!

Do people realize that if they quit talking about it, the embarassing story might go away and die . . . ?

Cribbs thinks former agent planted Hillis CIA story

Posted by Mike Florio on March 4, 2012, 1:14 PM EST

APBrowns running back Peyton Hillis has said he doesn’t know who leaked to the media the notion that in 2011 he considering retiring from football and joining the CIA. Teammate Josh Cribbs has a theory.

Cribbs said Saturday night that he thinks agent Kennard McGuire, whom Hillis recently fired, planted the seeds of the CIA story.

“That tends to hurt a person’s credibility when you get released,” Cribbs said, via Jeff Schudel of the Morning Journal. “It happens all the time. Then you try to scorn a guy. I didn’t think that was a great move for him to try to get future athletes under his belt to try to slur a guy’s good name. We knew better than that.”

Cribbs also believes that the Browns should keep Hillis. “If they feel we can win without him, I would have to disagree,” Cribbs said. “A lot of negative things have been said about him in negative ways, but I know him personally and I vouch for that guy. When he suits up he’s ready to play.”

Of course, on one occasion Hillis didn’t suit up during the 2011 because he had strep throat. And that seemed to be the catalyst for a chain of events that caused Hillis to fall out of favor with the organization.

Regardless of what the team now thinks about Hillis, he’ll become a free agent unless a new deal is negotiated by Match 13 at 4:00 p.m. ET. And of all the offers he gets, it’s unlikely that any will be coming from the CIA.

I can appreciate the fact the Cribbs wants to stick up for a team mate, but he needs to shut up and stay out of it imo...

I love the fact that Cribbs spoke out. Hillis has been taking a beating by the press. If Cribbs has a good idea that the agent did it, I believe him. He stood up for a guy on his team.

I don't know what is true and what isn't, and stories like the CIA thing really hurt the players rep. I can see where the agent got pissed because he was going to get a nice chunk of that contract, but to throw out a story like this to hurt the player, someone needs to let other players what this guy is all about.

I think McGuire just cooked his own goose.

Why? It's his teammate - if he's asked questions about it he'd better come out defending him - I think it's assume he's standing up for a fellow brown

I think he should stay out of it because he doesn't KNOW for sure. He said he thinks what happened is...Since he doesnt know he is just adding more fuel to the fire.

I've seen Tolbert mentioned by a few as a possible replacement to Hillis.

I kind of like Michael Bush. I was disappointed several years ago in the draft, i thought with his injury we had a good chance at snagging him. Then the raiders picked him instead. He is coming off of a fairly solid year. He stepped in for always injured McFadden and a change of qb's. I'd give him a solid look, seems like a similiar running back to Hillis, maybe without the drama.

they didnt ask cribbs what happened, they asked cribbs what he thought happened thus Cribbs giving his opinion on what he thinks happened. I am glad to see these guys sticking up for each other. tells me that team unity is still running thru the locker room.

Great. Leave it up to the mercurial Cribbs to stoke the flames of a fire.

Bill Bellyache is a despicable guy, but damnit, he sure knows how to keep the troops in line. The Pats know when to talk and when to STFU. We clearly don't.

***Gordon, I really didn't think you could be this stOOpid, but you exceeded my expectations. Wussy.
Manziel, see Josh Gordon. Dumbass.***
