Freeney has spent his entire 11-year career with the Colts and has been named to seven Pro Bowls. His 8½ sacks last season were second on the team. He is the Colts' all-time sacks leader with 102½.
Seems like if he has a $19 million cap number no one will want to trade for him. But then again there are some teams out there with $50 million plus in cap room.

His Salary is $14m, so that is all that will transfer, the other $5m will be dead cap space for Indy. That being said, there won't be many teams willing to take on a 32 year old DE with 1 year and $14m on the books. I think anything would be contingent on a multi-year deal being reached. An I can't see anything better than a late 2nd/early 3rd being what they get.

Hmmm, $14mil cap hit for old-Freeney or $17-20mil for in-the-prime Mario Williams. that might affect things.

We aren't going to sign/trade for a high priced DE.
Heckert had said all along that he feels that he can find pass rushers late into the draft. Why would he pay someone $17 million when he can draft a guy in the 2nd/3rd round and get almost comparable production? (in his eyes)
Last year everyone had us tied to Edwards. he was coming here, we were his 1st visit. We had "contacted him as soon as free agency opened" ...... then the local reporters said that he wasn't, and hadn't even been in town. The national media had Edwards holed up in Berea hammering out a deal, then leaving to go to another team that he also didn't sign with.
Heckert said that he wasn't going to spend big dollars on a pass rusher. He didn't. I doubt that he's going to change this year. I can see us taking a guy in the 2nd/3rd round..... but not signing a guy in free agency for huge dollars.

yeah, Heckert has made that pretty clear. well, not clear but as clear as he'd be willing to make it.
anyways, I was talking more of the general NFL landscape than the Browns there.
