From a WKNR report I heard. The host wanted to hear the audio, and the reporter inside the presser said that the Browns refused permission to use the audio in a broadcast, that they could only use it for transcription purposes.

That was on Tony Rizzo with Aaron Goldhammer.

So what? It's their choice. Don't like it, don't send anyone.

It could be that the reason they didn't want that out there was because of this

http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/media-cen...a2-f8b5f775406d

Heckert conducted an internal interview with Carucci.. maybe he didn't want competing interviews.. dunno

I didn't think we were allowed to post rumors?

LOL....Heck isn't much better at public speaking than the 6th grader heading to the podium to recite the Gettysburg Address to the class.

If it came out as it was written, he had to have sound like a moron.

yes Dalton and McCoy are similar, right down to size arm strength, both from the Southwest. and both were working with inexperianced OC's.
Its amazing when you consider McCoy had a surrounding cast that had all the speed and athletism of a competive eater he still had a respectable TD to INT ratio.
McCoy basically had work with 2nd RD busts at WR and 2 transplants.
Jordan Norwood played well at times but he's strictly a #3 WR.
If you draft a QB in the 1st RD,then you can draft mid RD WR's. You expect him to make them better i.e the Steelers
but you draft a QB in the mid RD,you can't surround him with mid RD talent.
It doesn't work.
Massaqiou and Robiskie were reaches...not 2nd RD talent.
Cribbs and Norwood were undrafted.
Colt can go only as far as the talent around him.
Very few QBs can elevate themselves above a mediorce cast and succeed.

I don't know all the rules and regulations and what not - but after that article - If I'm the Browns - I politely explain to Steve's paper that he won't be getting any exclusives any time soon.

He doesn't have to write lovingly or glowingly about the Browns - but to go out of his way to make Heckert sound stupid is a bit much.

To be honest, I don't know why a Canton paper would be getting exclusives anyway...I don't think they care.

They might if their credentials get tossed. Or if players are informed "hey, talk to Steve, he just may make you look stupid.".

Anyway - if the canton paper doesn't care - cut them off.

arch...some in the media are no different than some of our fans...looking for someone to blame, taking immature shots at the Browns front office.

I agree..the Browns need tell Stevie to get to the end of the line.

That would hurt the Browns just as much, especially in the off-season.

Local papers run articles on the Browns year round, with many of them in the off-season being fluff pieces. They build up the feel good on a local basis, which is especially important when a team has been as bad as the Browns have been for as long as the Browns have been. Cutting off a locl paper would be cutting off their noses to spite their faces.

Not only that, but even "mean" pieces keep the team front and center in the public's mind. Further, what if the team cut off their access, then the paper refused to run their local media ..... season ticket sales info, schedules, and so on that are all basically free advertising for the team?

The team and the media have a symbiotic relationship to a large extent.

Most honest reporters know that when you print that stuff like that, it's going to make someone sound dumber than a rock. Truth is, without seeing his face or hearing the inflections in his voice, it's difficult to tell what he was saying.

The reporters job in that case is to explain or interpret it,, instead, he just wrote it and offered nothing in the way of clearification.

As for the ANY paper being denied access because the team doesn't like what they write,, sorry,, I ain't in favor of censorship in any form..

If your the browns and don't like what's being written, do what Holmgren did a few months ago,, address it out in the open.. just face down the reporters, don't take baited questions, but answer good solid questions.

Remember when bill parcells used to basically tell reporters to pound salt..LOL I used to laugh at that.. Holmgren is too much of a gentleman for that,,but maybe he needs to speak out more firmly..

Not to mention the press sticks together. You start tossing credentials and you end up with the entire press at odds with you.

As any PR representative will tell you, don't get in to a fight with the person who has the most paper and the most ink.

Since Flacco arrived in Baltimore, they have gone 11-5, 9-7, 12-4, and 12-4.

Pretty big difference.

Don't forget that those players were getting tired of listening to Brian Billick and Harbaugh arrived the same year Flacco did so I'm not willing to put it all on Flacco.

Just something else all those numbers don't tell you.

Yeah, I get that.

But the canton paper doesn't have the most ink, or the most paper.

Fair articles are just that - fair. Not hatchet jobs designed to make Heckert look stupid. ( or anyone, for that matter). They don't have to write fluff pieced - but I guarantee, when they attack over something stupid - it is accounted for.

Try this on for size, and let me know what you'd do: I'm a reporter for your local paper. Big law case going on. You can't discuss details - but I'm allowed in your court.

Next days headline is "Whiskey drinking, chaw chewing Judge Hands Down Decision"........and I proceed to make you look like a drunk, tobacco chewing fool.

You going to talk to me in the future? Or would my article give you pause to reconsider ever speaking to me again?

Nothing personal at all. AT ALL - just trying to give perspective here.

daman...while it is kind of hard to read Holmgren at times, I think it is safe to say that the Cleveland media received a shot across the bow when Holmy made his comment about, this is not the same old Browns and don't come to him asking for tickets to a playoff game.

...and just a month or so ago, PD's Grossi got reassigned by the paper and he now works for WKNR.

In this particular case with Steve Doerschuk, the Browns did absolutely nothing wrong to deserve the mocking story he wrote.

Maybe WKNR has another opening...

I might spit tobacco juice in your eye(even though I haven't had any since early Jan), but no, I shrug it off and go on my record.

The bottom line is Heck is a public figure. Someone needs to encourage him to take a few public speaking courses....be it at a community college, Dale Carnegie, or Toastmasters. He needs serious help.

The guy sounds like a simpleton.

I agree with you it doesn't reflect on his ability to select players, but if the team is going to start hiding what the guy says, then maybe a hatchet piece is required.

Blame the team, whoever it might be, not the press. That's what you give them, that's what you get.

I agree, I dunno if he'll become President when Holmgren leaves. But I'm hoping he stays GM and if that means he has to take on more responsibilities, so be it.

Unfortunately he's very bad at speaking to the media. Some Public Speaking courses would be great. But he has very little free time.

Lerner should hire him a public speaking coach or something who can work with him on it so he becomes more comfortable. Makes sense, I just don't see Heckert having the time to go to college classes.

He needs someone to work with him 1 on 1 on Heckert's schedule

Heck's position is one that requires public speaking skills of some sort. Not only does he not possess those skills, he appears to despise speaking to the media at all and isn't afraid to express it---it's actually the one thing he expresses well.

The one nice thing about it is at least he doesn't spend too much time blowing smoke and insulting our intelligence.

It's a shame sometimes that the thing a person does really well gets hampered because there's something else he's not good at that is totally unrelated to his real skill but is expected to do it as well.

Personally I don't care that he's not a great public speaker and hates to face the media. It's not like he's the face of the franchise. He's not even on camera or in front of a microphone all that often. Just so he is a good talent evaluator with the ability to choose FA's and draft players that will improve our team I'm content.

I disagree. His position has nothing to do with public speaking skills. Nothing.

If the Browns wanted someone with public speaking skills, they would've hired Obama and 10 teleprompters. (Ever hear O speak without a teleprompter? It's sad.)

It's part of his job to relay to the fans his thought process on his decisions and such..

I could care less how he talks though.. i just want a winning team.

If his decisions are good and we start winning, he could get a super model to come out and explain what we did and why and it could be totally incoherent and I wouldn't care.

Whats the alternative.. an great speaker that lies to us constantly (Butch Davis, Carman Policy) Guys that like to blow sunshine up our skirts?

Or, a guy that isn't a great public speaker, but tells it straight... Doesn't try to hand us a bag of poo and call it steak...

I'll take the latter every time....

I just tested it in Word, 2010 and "patients" doesn't go ballistic and tell you it it misused.

Poor gal probably thought she was on point with everything because there were safeguards in place. I think that is even scarier than a natural mistake. How the F do some people make it through school? We are not even talking inner city here.

Listening to Heckert speak is kind of annoying. I personally don't care about his public speaking skills but, as evidenced by this thread, to a certain extent perception is reality. Also insamuch as good coommunication skills is important to a GM to relate to potential prospects and free agents (and I might be stretching here), it probably wouldn't hurt him to improve in that area.

Now I'm not a life coach but I do think I have good communication skills (much moreso in real life than online, lol)... here's my advice to Heck:

1. Sloooooow down. Holy **** man... take a deep breath, and speak slowly and clearly. You're an NFL GM with a 7 figure salary. People want to hear what you have to say, and they will listen (many will then mercilessly rip you to shreds, but that also comes with the territory.)

2. Limit the extracurricular movement. e.g. the nervous arm waves, head bobs, all of that. Just look at who you are speaking to in the eye and say what you want to say, slowly!

3. Go on a diet/lose some weight. This might seem unrelated but my opinion is that one's physical condition drastically affects how one expresses themselves in many other facets of life. More specifically, there is research linking obesity to ADHD and that sort of stuff. If nothing else, it might prevent a future heart surgery.

/just one random guy's opinion
