it does seem strange that Miami would trade Brandon Marshall without having a backup plan in place

APPierre Garcon says it’s official: He’s signing with the Washington Redskins.

Garcon, the free agent wide receiver who has spent the last four years with the Colts, wrote on Facebook les than an hour after free agency began that for him, free agency has already ended: He liked the offer the Redskins gave him so much that he signed it on the spot.

“I wanted you all to hear it from me 1st before u saw it on the news,” Garcon wrote. “I will be signing with the Washington Redskins and I’m very excited about the opportunity in front of me. I want to thank all Colts fans from the bottom of my heart for all the love and support you’ve shown me the past 4 years and I hope that at some level u will still follow my career, as I will continue to share my life with you on here.”

Garcon is a speedy receiver who at age 25 should have plenty of good years ahead of him. The Redskins will hope he spends those good years catching a lot of passes from Robert Griffin III.

Also, doesn't it seem like the Redskins sign big names every year, and they never are any good?

Phil Dawson accepts Tag

Cleveland Browns kicker Phil Dawson accepts franchise tag, source said
Published: Tuesday, March 13, 2012, 1:49 PM Updated: Tuesday, March 13, 2012, 4:12 PM
By Mary Kay Cabot, The Plain Dealer The Plain Dealer

Mark Duncan, Associated PressPhil Dawson will be back with the Browns for a 14th season in 2012.
CLEVELAND -- Browns kicker Phil Dawson has accepted his franchise tag, a league source told the Plain Dealer.

Dawson, heading into his 14th season, is set to make $3.8 million in 2012.

Browns general manager Tom Heckert said last week that Dawson may have been unhappy about being tagged for the second straight week. He his "ultimate goal'' was to sign Dawson to a multi-year deal.

Dawson has declined to comment.

He was franchised last season for $3.175 million. He played in all 16 games, converting 24 of 29 field goals, but with a blocks and deflection and one kick that sailed high above the goalpost, Dawson contends there was only one legitimate miss.

Dawson also hit seven field goals of 50 yards or more, which was one shy of the NFL record. Dawson's 199 games played are the fifth-most in Browns history.

His career field goal percentage of 83.1% is first in Browns history and 10th in NFL annals.

Hillis, adams and other hit FA Market

Cleveland Browns Peyton Hillis, Mike Adams and others hit market, OL John Greco signed
Published: Tuesday, March 13, 2012, 4:34 PM Updated: Tuesday, March 13, 2012, 5:02 PM
By Mary Kay Cabot, The Plain Dealer The Plain Dealer

John Greco was signed to a multi-year contract extension with the Browns.
CLEVELAND -- Running back Peyton Hillis, safety Mike Adams and six other Browns hit the free agent market today, and one was signed to a multi-year contract extension -- offensive lineman John Greco.

The Browns also tendered wide receiver Jordan Norwood and defensive lineman Brian Schaefering as exclusive rights players. They did not tender linebacker Titus Brown, who's recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

The team also officially announced the release of offensive tackle Tony Pashos and punter Richmond McGee. They will not re-sign free agent punter Brad Maynard, and will turn the chore back over to punter Reggie Hodges, who sat out all last season with a torn Achilles tendon.

Browns kicker Phil Dawson also accepted his one franchise tender of $3.8 million.

Greco appeared in 15 games in a reserve role after being acquired in a trade with St. Louis on August 1, 2011.

Norwood saw action in 14 games with four starts in 2011, registering career-highs with 23 receptions for 268 yards and one touchdown.

Schaefering appeared in all 16 contests as a reserve in 2011, recording 29 tackles and a half sack.

The other Browns free agents that hit the market today are offensive lineman Oneil Cousins, offensive lineman Artis Hicks, cornerback Dimitri Patterson, tight end Alex Smith and offensive lineman Steve Vallos.

The Browns have said they'll try to re-sign some of them, including Hillis and Patterson.

In other free agency news:

* Colts WR Pierre Garcon posted on his facebook page that he's signing with the Redskins.

* Dallas WR Laurent Robinson is visiting with the Jaguars.

* Saints WR Robert Meachem is visiting tonight with the Bills.

Kills their shot for Manning.

Actually it sounds like they traded him so they have a better shot at getting Manning. Word is Manning didn't want to be on the same team as Marshall.

Does anyone else find it odd that Gargon would leave Indy knowing they are going to get Luck.. and where does he go,, to the redskins that are supposed to take RG3..

The Redskins always have great offseasons in the fans eye....to bad their regular seasons don't translate into any postseasons.

It's a big wait and see. Remember, they still have to play against the Giants, Eagles and Boys....all better than them.

well, apparently Garcon won't be the only new WR in DC

Pierre Garcon isn’t the only free agent receiver the Redskins are signing.

Just moments after Garcon confirmed that he’s signing with the Redskins, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that free agent wide receiver Josh Morgan is also on the verge of signing with the Redskins.

Exactly. It should surprise no one that the 'Skins are making big moves. They do it every year. And, then they draft 6th.

Just like last year, remember all the moves the Eagles made? How they were essentially a given to win it all?

Signing of FAs guarantees nothing, IMO.

Not really. One rookie QB for another.

Plus, Snyder's money was more than Irsay's......and it seems like Irsay is trying to completely gut and rebuild the whole team.

From what I see from Indy fans comments, they were begging Washington to take him. Said he can't make the easy catch.

It is no surprise that Redskins are making big moves but they just happen to be moves I wish the Browns would have made. I won't agree with everything the Redskins do this offseason but they are off to a hell of a start.

Its frustrating when the Front office says stay the course when the course has worked out so well for the Browns recently.

LOL it's amazing how much it reminds me of that..

But,, I'm not sure what folks are thinking.. down the road a year or two,, maybe this will work,, but a with a rookie QB (even if he's considered to be a good one) this isn't going to go smoothly right out of the gate.

Was going to come and say this -- I'd say it's about even odds right now that the Redskins come in last place in that division -- even after moves like this, who are they better than? Dallas maybe?

no Browns news yet...

i mean not even a rumor or visit...

I'm trying to figure out how did Buffalo convince Williams to make a visit up there? and yet we can't? this can't be life.

Yeah but Free Agents have changed the futures of franchises:

1) Reggie White
2) Drew Brees
3) Curtis Martin
4) Kurt Warner x2
5) Charles Woodson

I'm not advocating signing every FA player but as mentioned they can change the future of franchises or at least greatly influence one side of the ball.

Also I just happen to think Garcon's speed plus RGIII's deep ball is going to be a good combination.

Go Browns!!

I'm not expecting anything big, but I'd like to see the Browns at least schedule a few visits.

Brees is an excellent example.. but remember, he was there for a few years before the got to the SB.. I think 2005 was when he was a FA and 2010 was when it paid off. (couple of those years things were messed up due to Katrina)

Lots of guys came and went in those 5 years.. he wasn't the final piece of the puzzle, he was a building block. Very important FA Pick up. Oustanding example.. got any others??

The Pats seem to be the best at finding keys in FA.. Mostly the MISSING pieces I guess but they sure surprised everyone with what they got out of Moss and Walker. But then.. they have a QB.
