you must have missed the overpay part....

In regards to Rodgers/Brees....If you know anything about Green Bay (and I do since I live in WI), you know that their GM doesn't sign free agents and you'd also now that Jordy Nelson and James Jones just re-upped last year for team friendly contracts

Colston just re-signed with NO, Sproles went to NO b/c of Brees...

Also, I wasn't specifically including WR's only...if I'm a DE and I'm being pursued by say Chicago, Cleveland, Philly, Miami and Houston....we're last on the list in basically all categories (expect perhaps $) than any team.

This is the year to sign FAs,next year's group will only be fraction of whats available now.
In short order things will settle down the big names will be gone, then it will become a buyers market and we'll make a few moves.

So what you're saying is that the only way we can get a quality free agent is if we overpay, but if we do overpay, then it's not a free agent worth getting?

My question to you is, how do we start attracting free agents?

My guess: get better.

Now, some of these free agents might have helped our team. Mario Williams would be a great addition, no doubt. But, I'm not sure I'd be ready to dump $90 million into a DE when we have so many other problems.

I hope Buddy gets it done. I'll have to buy him a drink the next time we play golf, while I beg him to take a job in Cleveland.

Then, next year, we make a big signing or two in FA and have another great draft and the next thing you know, we're right in the thick of things.

I'll be negative for you...

IMO, any player that's worth anything won't sign here until we have a bona fide QB. Why would you unless the Browns would totally overpay for the guy and in that case, do you really want that guy? So if we go 4-12 again and offense is scoring 15 points a game again....who exactly will want to play for us?

We won't even get the top guys if we overpay.

Did anyone see the Mario Manningham interview with cleveland.com earlier? "Cleveland is not a destination for free agents", and it's largely because of the unsettled QB situation, and the fact that we have won so little for so long.

I love how some people who all but said that we would be able to sign certain free agents are now running those guys down because they signed elsewhere. Cripes, Josh Morgan, while certainly not the top guy in free agency, nonetheless agreed to put off his guaranteed money until late in his contract to go play in Washington. (Presumably with RG3 ...... since he'll be the QB and all .......) Can you imagine a young guy heading into free agency agreeing to do that to play with the Browns?

What do we have to offer a prospective free agent? "We've added some solid players over the past couple of years in the draft, and are still a distant 4th place team."

Pardon me for being a bit down when it comes to the Browns. I don't see a whole lot of sunshine on the horizon.

I'm saying we won't get big name free agents at this time without overpaying...yes

That could change if we ever got a big time QB but until then, we've got to outspend or hope they grew up in Cleveland and want to come back

...hope they can prove me wrong

I'd like to see some combo of Early Doucet, Tracy Porter, Dwight Lowery, Mike Tolbert/Hillis, Jim Leonhard, Israel Idonije

Three years, $17.5 million for Reggie Wayne
Posted by Mike Florio on March 13, 2012, 10:07 PM EDT
For the past few years, receiver Reggie Wayne’s discontent with his contract created the impression that he would leave as soon as his deal expired. As recently as last week, there was no evidence of any effort by the Colts to keep him. It seemed to be a foregone conclusion that Wayne would be gone.

And, of course, he re-signed with the Colts only hours after becoming an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his 11-year career.

Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first to report the agreement. A league source tells PFT that Wayne’s deal is worth $17.5 million over three years, with $7.5 million guaranteed. (It’s unclear how much of it is fully guaranteed.)

Wayne’s decision to stay seems even more unusual in light of the fact that so many veteran players are gone, and the team will be in full-blown rebuilding mode. Also, it was believed that Wayne would be inclined to wait for Peyton Manning to make a decision, in order to possibly follow Manning to his new team.

Unless Peyton and the Colts work out a new deal, that won’t be happening.

...agree...it all goes back to QB play....if they care about winning, they know you need a star QB to compete at a high level each year.

Wow...that's truly shocking. One - because he signed with Indy and two b/c that isn't a lot of money. I wonder if the market was not that big or if he just wanted to retire a Colt and not move his family?

Yes. He was head coach here at UTC back when TO played here. He still has ties here and plays at my golf club.

We aren't great friends by any means but we've played golf together maybe a dozen or more times, so yes, I know him and it wouldn't take him long to remember me.

For those wanting Meachem, he is now a charger.

Chargers signed WR Robert Meachem to a four-year, $25.9 million contract.
So much for Meachem not making it out of Buffalo. The deal includes $14 million guaranteed. It's a huge deal for someone who was something of an underachiever during his four seasons in New Orleans. Meachem drew heavy interest from the second the bell rang on free agency, however, and is still viewed as a potential No. 1 receiver in some circles. That's what he'll have to be in San Diego after the Bolts lost Vincent Jackson to the Bucs. That, of course, bodes well for his fantasy value even though he's leaving the NFL's most prolific passing offense in New Orleans. Meachem will be Philip Rivers' top target in 2012, and is a good bet to best his career-best line of 45/722/9 from 2009.

Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times Union reports that the Jaguars have re-signed defensive end Jeremy Mincey.

Per Scout.com, the deal is for four years.

Mincey drew interest on Tuesday from the Chicago Bears, and the Cleveland Browns at one point were said to be making a run at him. Instead, Mincey stayed in Jacksonville, where he broke out in 2011 as the Jags’ featured pass rusher.

This is obviously the worst thing ever and everyone in the front office should be fired.

So they arent' going to keep Mike Adams the safety of the Cleveland Browns for over 5 years, after he's playing his best season.

Jason Campbell won't be a backup for long, he'd be a great fit in Cleveland because he's a great player.

So I can be assured I won't get to watch Jason Campbell or RG3 in Cleveland in the 2012 season which is only a couple hundred days away.

We all Know Colt McCoy can't win 1 divsiion game! So this is pretty Angry!

If We have to Settle for Colt McCoy or Kevin Kolb, we might as well go play Golf! or watch NasCar!

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Might be Flynn if they can close the deal...

... you know, I've been thinking... this could be a Romo situation. How long did it take before dude became the starter.

Sometimes players get overlooked.

If Flynn produces anywhere close to what Romo has done... I think I'd be pretty happy IMO

Well ..... that kind of production would be nice ..... but I'm not holding my breath.

I see us going Richardson, and a RT and WR with our 1st 3 picks. Might as well give McCoy, or whoever our QB is, everything he could possibly want.

This makes Miami's trading of Brandon Marshall seem even more odd. The only way it made sense was if Peyton Mannning was pretty much a done deal and he wanted to bring Wayne along. But both Wayne and Garcon are now signed elsewhere.Surely they wouldn't get rid of Marshall with just the HOPE that it would further entice Manning to sign. Would they?

Report: Brandon Marshall accused of “slugging” a woman

March 14, 2012, 3:38 AM EDT

Annnnnnnnd now we know why Brandon Marshall was available for two third-round picks.

The New York Post reports that Marshall is accused of “slugging” a woman outside a New York City nightclub on Sunday.

The woman claims that she was punched in the eye by Marshall as a group of her friends were arguing with Marshall and another football player, both of whom allegedly had been thrown out of the club for fighting.

A lawyer for Marshall told the Post that Marshall was not involved in the fight.

“While attempting to leave to avoid the melee [Marshall’s wife] was struck in the face by a thrown bottle. She suffered serious injury,” the lawyer said. “While attempting to leave and take his wife to the hospital, the mayhem continued outside. Mr. Marshall is hoping to assist authorities in regards to this matter.”

Via NFL.com, Jay Glazer of FOX posted a similar statement from lawyer Harvey Steingberg on Twitter.

Technically, it’s unknown whether the Dolphins knew about the incident before trading Marshall. If they did, however, the decision to dump him makes more sense.

The question then becomes, if the Dolphins knew, did the Bears? And will the Bears care? There could be some rule or bylaw somewhere allowing the Bears to bail on this one if the Dolphins were aware of pertinent information and failed to share it.

It’s the latest incident in a long line of off-field problems and incidents involving Marshall.

Marshall might be suspended by the NFL for few games if this story is true.

I saw this headline after I posted about the trade.
Marshalls wifee...is that the same one who stabbed him last year? I kinda find it hard to believe that they where innocent bystanders just trying to get out of the club. It would explain the trade tho. I would have thought they could have gotten more for him.

You may have missed the part where he stayed out of the fight? His wife got hit with the bottle and they are the victims.

That doesn't get you suspended?

IMO- That gets you in the NFL's good graces especially for or trying to help authorities.

We have lawyers releasing statements and nothing from the police who are investigating. Best to wait until investigations is done.

But, was Marshall rumored to be on the trading block before this?

Adams sucked last year. He was out of position, missed a slew of gimmie interceptions, missed easy tackles. I am sure the Adams praise by the FO was more of great job, pat on the back and here let me get the door for you.
