Why try to fix somethin thats not broken?

Phil is the last player on this team frm 99....i hope to god he retires as a Brown....he does not suck that bad that we need a new FG kicker... he gets the job done....

And 2nd rounder for dawson???? HAHAHHAHA

I would be shocked if someone gave up a 2nd rounder at all for any current kicker.....unless the team is in the playoffs and just lost their kicker to a freak injury....who in their right mind would trade for a old kicker who we all agree isn't the best in the NFL and give up a 2nd ROUND PICK for him? etob buddy i'm kind of shocked by ur post....this is a bit unusual comming frm u

Just cause it ant broken, dosent mean it's not getting rusty and starting to squeak, nothing wrong with looking at the options out thier,

If Phil has a bad year, people will be yelling, "I cant believe Phil & the Browns didnt see this coming on..it's thier Job"....

I would not even consider a kicker in the draft.

I am not saying we should....just saying if you want one, drafting one early isn't a bad thing.

Plus....if we make a switch at kicker, we will keep Jeff Chandler who has been brought in the last couple of years for camp. He has a strong leg and can make the kicks if given a shot.

I live in south florida and all year on sportstalk radio I've heard "what's wrong with Olindo Mare? Missing kicks constantly that usually were "made easily". Fans wanted him gone last year in a big way. I hope if we do get him that he "fixed" the problem. But with the Fins getting rid of him after years of stellar service that is not a good sign. I don't want to trade a pick for him(even the 7th round) because he is being released anyway and he probably would not come to Cleveland anyway being a f/a. And I wouldn't want him if he didn't want to come here.

This kid has a year or two, but he can be really impressive.

Sophomore kicker Ryan Succop won the starting kickoff, punting, and place kicking duties for USC in fall camp, and Succop debuted on Thursday night against Mississippi State by kicking three field goals, averaging nearly 49 yards per punt, and even avoiding a potential blocked punt by rushing for 16 yards and a crucial 1st down. GamecockAnthem spoke with Succop about his impressive performance.

I love that he kicks and punts. I've also seen him punt with several styles. He's very versatile. He did do a little choking, but he's a soph right now. A year or two should be the right time frame too. I'm not writing off Philly Dawg just yet.

I am not writing him off. I simply said if a kicker is what we want, drafting one isn't a bad idea, then mentioned Cosby as one I like and also mentioned Chandler as a possible option.

Ok Vers coming down on me calling me nuts - I really don't care.

But Shep you know I was Dawson's staunchest supporter with you and several others.

"Rumors.....tsk tsk tsk.."

exactly...and unlike others on this board I will distinguish something I state with a rumor reading - I stated "RUMOR"

GM -stated child, actually that was also me stating that at the time. But I knew that tidbit from Danielle back in the first half of the season.

Was it here and gone?

Vers...you know whats really funny I think you posted the Rumor

"Yeah, there is nothing worse than a disgruntled PK ranting and raving in the locker room, I have heard rumors that this has killed many a team in previous years."

Before you need a diaper from N.A.S.A. - the cancer I was speaking of was one of a Kicker...not a team cancer. A kicker cancer...where he can't hit the side of a barn.

"Horsehockey on both counts....."

Look we've lost every year but one with Dawson. In all that time I never saw him quit on us. He did last season. His last 3 games he was 50% on his FG attempts but it was also his effort.

Now I'm sorry I don't hang out at Berea...I can't say for certain if this was still depression from his kid..if so and that situation is behind him then this is a moot discussion.

But I didn't bring up that we were looking into Mare...but if we are? Then you tell me Why?

All I was trying to do was figure out why? And if it is true - Rumor as it is - but not unbelieveable - but if true. Then we are looking to move him before it hits his head and he becomes like many before him...pwang - can't hit the broadside of a barn.

I think Dawson is top 5 kicker in this league. That is why I think we can get something good for him. He's probably one of the few none - youngsters we got that other teams would Covet.

I don't want to get rid of a top 5 kicker for the heck of it. But if he don't want to be here...pure and simple I do want to get rid of him.

I'm not in Berea...but Savage is.

Its rather simple. Either he is happy to be a Brown and there is no way he's going anywhere.

Or he is not...If we are looking into Mare? IF? then one has to wonder.

Thats all I'm saying...the rest was goofing around playing GM making trades.

I don't know what up with everyone.

Like its some sort of mission to jab my credibility.

You all got questions ask...I be more than happy to give my train of thoughts. I know everyone isn't a mind reader.

But I don't understand the Bullseye I got on my back.

Browns | Team has interest in Mare
Wed, 14 Mar 2007 21:22:31 -0700

Harvey Fialkov, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports the Miami Dolphins are still trying to trade PK Olindo Mare, and discussions continue with the Cleveland Browns.

According to KFFL.com.........

Is this really necessary? Trading for a kicker? Geez....Phil don't upset me. If we do something stupid I'm going to start to second guess you.

I really don't get this. I mean, if Mare was a dramatic improvement over Phil, it would make some sense. However, he isn't. Why bother trading for this guy??

Phil is the guy and will be for 2007, 2008, and 2009 etc. No source says he wants to be here nor want out. Phil is the ONLY reliable thing we've had since the 1999 season. (pathetic huh?) I just can't picture Phil being happy anywhere else but Cleveland. He is one of the best kickers in snow, rain outdoor conditions, and he has proved to us again and again. Look how many games Phil has won for us over the years OVER 5 games just because of his foot. What about the 5 Field Goal game against San Diego? Doesn't get much better than that.

Trading Phil would hurt the locker room, and the Special Teams . Badly.

Mare trade talks not in the picture
Dolphins kicker's stats not all that impressive
By Patrick McManamon
Beacon Journal sportswriter

Rumors circulated last week the Browns had their eyes on Olindo Mare, the Miami Dolphins kicker who is expected to be released now that the Dolphins have added Jay Feely.

The Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel even reported the Browns had been involved in trade talks to acquire Mare.

Here's a question worth asking: Why?

Mare has kicked his entire career in South Florida, a climate that is a tad different than Cleveland's. In his career, he has made 80.9 percent of his kicks.

Browns kicker Phil Dawson has made 82.1 percent.

Mare has made 76-of-115 kicks from 40 yards and beyond (66.1 percent); Dawson has made 40-of-61 (65.5 percent).

Mare has done better than Dawson in one area: touchbacks on kickoffs. Mare has had 76 the past four years, and he led the league with 24 last season. Dawson has the disadvantage of kicking in cold weather, and as the temperature drops, the league's kicking balls turn to stone.

In the past four years, 18 of the top 20 teams in touchbacks played in warm climates (Miami, Jacksonville, Arizona), domes (St. Louis, Detroit, Atlanta) or high altitude (Denver).

Dawson started last season with 11 touchbacks in the first 10 games. As the weather got colder, the kicks did not carry as far.

His field-goal kicking suffered late, as well; he made 72 percent of his kicks, his lowest percentage in eight years. In the first 10 games of the season, however, Dawson made 17-of-20 field goals (85 percent). Five of the Browns' last six games were cold-weather games.

So is Mare really in the picture?

The Browns, through Vice President Bill Bonsiewicz, said they would not comment on trade rumors. The latest word out of South Florida is that a trade with the Browns is highly unlikely.
