There really isn't. I've heard Levi Brown isn't that good. And Eric Winston is from a zone blocking scheme. I don't think that's our blocking scheme. He's also going to command big bucks.
I'm really hoping we get someone like Cordy Glenn with our 22 pick. Even if we gotta trade a third or something to move up a few spots to make sure we get him.
It's seemed strange to me that Heckert hasn't looked into any WR via FA really. This makes me think our plan is to go WR high. That'll probably be Justin Blackmon IMO.
If we had found a WR in FA, I'd think we were looking at Tannehill at 4. But now, I don't think so.
1) Blackmon 1B) Glenn or Tannehill (trading up with a third round pick if we need to), but we'll probably try to sit pat 2) Someone to play RDE (Unless we select Tanehill then we go RT and shift all these picks down) 3) CB or RB 4) CB or RB 4) BPA, pretty much any position

Well, he may have looked very hard but I would figure a lot of WRs wouldn't be interested in Cleveland because of the QB and weather (and because it's "Cleveland" too).
I'd be more than happy building a WR corps through the draft.
I really think Little is going to have a nice year. If we can get Blackmon too....look out!

This comment, and the one that someone made tongue-in-cheek that there isn't any tampering in the NFL (regarding players signing so quickly after the start of free agency) has me thinking that we probably DID look into all of the free agent WR's, and my guess is that we found that they either didn't want to play in Cleveland, or they were looking for more money than we were willing to pony up.
Think about it... there's a LOT of time from the end of the season until the start of free agency. There's a LOT of idle time and opportunity for words to be said amongst peers... it wouldn't be all that hard at all for a team to determine whether or not they had a shot at a player.

That's fair, whatever the case, I think it's gonna make us go WR early in the draft. We really have very little choice otherwise. We have no real weapons for our QBs. Greg Little is a good one, but we definitely need someone to compliment him.
I moving back toward my hold the course with McCoy position. If Tannehill is there at 22, let's definitely consider him. But Tannehill at 4 will leave him with very little in the way of weapons. Blackmon and Little would be a good tandem.
If we don't go Tannehill, I wouldn't have an issue with taking a TE high in the draft either. Watson had those concussion issues, Evan Moore can't block for his life and it limits him big time, and Alex Smith is just your average number 2 TE.
Jordan Cameron? I just don't think we're banking on him, if he turns out great, excellent. Otherwise, forget it
EDIT: I don't see us going for a TE before 2nd round though. RT and WR must be filled first. May be with our 1B pick, but we'll get our RT in the 2nd if that's the case.

well, there's that. yeah, Winston is the best bet at RT and there are plenty that don't think he fits our scheme.
i've always been a draft OT guy, so i'm definitely still there, but with our current needs, we shouldn't spend $7mil on an OG was my point.

Cowboys sign Brodney Pool Updated: March 15, 2012, 11:49 AM ET By Calvin Watkins | ESPNDallas.com The Dallas Cowboys have signed former New York Jets safety Brodney Pool, coach Jason Garrett said during a Thursday morning conference call. More on the Cowboys Calvin Watkins, Tim MacMahon and Todd Archer have the Dallas Cowboys blanketed. Blog » ESPN Dallas » All-time Cowboys Terms were not disclosed. Pool played for the New York Jets the last two seasons and was credited with four quarterback hurries, three pass breakups and one interception last season. Garrett said the team wanted to sign Pool last year, during the brief free agency period, but was unable to due to finances. "He has some really good ball skills," Garrett said. Pool has played with Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan with the Cleveland Browns in 2009. Under Ryan, Pool had a career-high four interceptions and also had 10 pass breakups. A second-round pick from Oklahoma by the Browns, Pool is a native of Corpus Christi, Texas. http://espn.go.com/dallas/nfl/story/_/id...-pool-secondary

I'll bet there were at least 3 or 4 different options above that made me say, "that's a good idea" when I read them. When the season ended, I was all over Blackmon and still wouldn't have a problem taking him at 4. I did like the idea of doing that and then trading up for Richardson. As YTown has said, if we go with McCoy, we might as well build the offense by getting some playmakers.
On the other hand, Peen's idea of trying to gain another 1st for a run at one of next year's QBs has it's merit as well. I really would be fine with either, but I think this team MUST find a WR and a RB before the season begins. What we have at both spots just isn't enough.

I would pay that for Levi Brown. 6 years 42 mil is what I was thinking he would probably go for.

Sanchez and Brady just said, "aww crap." I didn't include the Phins because they don't have a QB right now. Good for Buffalo and the small markets......though, somehow this contract will force Ralph Wilson to play more games in Toronto. Get ready Bills fans, you'll only be able to see preseason games in Buffalo.

Jake Long just said it then. He's got to deal with him twice a year now. That should be a fun battle.

Which begs the question of "Why?" for each. It also shows that the Browns are NOT the only team that isn't signing "name" players yet. The longer it goes, the cheaper the cost.

I want them because they are good and most aren't "name" players. And after you asked why, I feel like you answered for me . . . "The longer it goes, the cheaper the cost."

well, we have that going for us then. going to be hard to convince him to play for another team considering he's teaming up with his brother right now.

Henderson is incredibly overrated...he busted at Minny and they're not even trying to bring him back although they have D-problems all over the field...give me Woodyard any day over him...he's a miscast in Denver's 3-4

O.K. Putting aside the disrespectful tone of you're post. I will explain. We cut Hillis, we have Hardesty ( who hasn't proven he can stay healthy), Jackson who has proven nothing to the Browns yet and a couple other guys. Bush, if I remember right, was a top college prospect before being injured and has shown flashes of ability since joining the Raiders. I would look to sign him to a short term deal, preferably something in the neighborhood of what the Chiefs gave Hillis. This seems the type of guy that could be acquired in lieu of drafting a RB in the top 2 rounds.

I never said I didn't like Bush. That's why he's on my list. And I agree w/ what you said about him 100%.
It just sounded like he was the ONLY one in my list that you thought might be of use to the Browns.
I wasn't trying to be disrespectful at all . . . Just taken aback, I guess. . .

Marcus McNeil if healthy would be sweet at RT. Not on your list but still.
Woodyard would be a really good fit in this scheme on the weakside.
Bush is solid back, best years ahead of him.

Addai is an incredibly underrated player IMHO. For years Manning covered up the fact that the Colts marched out a below-average offensive line, which was exposed when Manning wasn't under center. He's not an elite back, but I believe he's much better than people know.

I think what we do in the next few weeks as far as getting one of these FA rb's will tell us a lot more about what we are going to do in the draft. If we sign no one else..Richardson at 4 is still a possibility. Sign ANYONE else at RB and we are done there.

Agreed. I'd always advocated Richardson because while I viewed it as a possibility, I never once believed Hillis was coming back. He's the safest guy in this draft not named Tannehill. RB's are no longer over-valued in the league because of how easy it is to find one and the devaluation of the position, but if we have no other options, the combination of our need and his ability are a perfect match.
And for Mourg, we still have ammunition with the #22 pick to go get Tannehill (though I think he shouldn't go in the 1st.)

Yea, I'd be OK with him at 4. He may be "just" a RB, but he's the best that's come along in awhile. He's a starter day one and an impact player on offense. We could do a lot worse. My only concern is we HAVE to find a receiver that can actually be a threat to help keep teams from doing what they did last year.. forget our "passing" game and stuff the run. Go after Floyd or Wright with our 2nd pick.

Really like the kid but I am cautious about spendign a top 10 pick on a RB to start with then you have a RB that just had surgery on his knee and I get even more cautious. Talent wise, he is the #2 player in this draft.

Yea, It's a risk, although I'm not really worried about a knee scope. I just don't see another player on offense that we can say is already "elite" at his position and can help right away. We've been saying good RB's are a dime a dozen and can be found anywhere. Well we haven't had one of those guys since.. an aging, 2nd hand Jamal Lewis. May as well try to fix THAT position for a few years.

Not sure what made me think of this, and NO, I don't want him back, but what ever happened to Braylon Edwards.. I mean I know he was cut by the 9ers.. and I know he was supposed to be rehabing his knee, but at some point, some team will take a shot with him wont they?
