We didn't have to offer more. Hillis said he'd give the Browns a hometown discount.

The fact that he signed a 1 year deal to be a backup RB tells me he just didn't want to be here.

Best of luck to him. I'm not sure I'm going to miss him too horribly bad.

I think his mid-season antics were worse than we'll ever know. We were not gonna give him any where what he wanted, even if he would take less. Got that feeling when Heck was talking about him. He upset alot of people on this team, and it shows.

Why would he want to stay here? The front office and coaches never really had his back when he was sick ...... or when he was injured.

All Shurmur had to say while that whole thing was going on was this:

"Peyton Hillis has strep throat, and is very weak right now as a result. He has lost 10 pounds as a result of his illness, and we are not sure whether or not he will be able to play this weekend. The doctors will consult with Peyton and make a final decision."

Then when he wasn't going to play they could have simply said "The doctors consulted with Peyton, and they decided that he should not play this weekend."

That would have been the end of it.

Instead we got all kinds of double talk and babbling nonsense ...... which led to all kinds of BS.

Re-post:

Before this thread goes bananas, some facts:

- he signed for only 1 year...maybe the "retirement talk" wasn't so off after all

- he's clearly the no2 RB

- he "only" got 3mil

It's safe to say that he wasnt in high demand

To got that fast for that little, and a backup at that, he sure wasn't in demand.

I'll miss his pass catching ability though. Dude has great hands.

I think he just didn't want to be in Cleveland anymore. Like I said before, best of luck to him.

However, I like the reports about how he's "reunited" with Daboll. Like it was Daboll who got him the yards this year, and it was the absence of Daboll that cost him yards this year.

...to a guy with a blown out knee.

I heard it takes two years to really recover from that injury. Or maybe that's only in Cleveland.

It's very possible that he just wanted to go to a team with a guy he is very comfortable with. (Daboll)

I bet Hillis has a decent year. I can see him catching a ton of balls in KC.

Wasn't Daboll the OC here when he had his big year? Daboll is now the OC in KC after a year in Miami.

I think that Daboll was asked for his input about Hillis and he probably likes him.

I have been really busy so far this year and I'm playing catch-up but does this mean the front office has faith in Hardesty or do they have someone else on the radar they want to bring in?

The Trifecta of Failure is complete.
I am preparing for something worse than last year folks.
Anything else will be a pleasant suprise.
I really hope to eat crow.
But I doubt it
Highly dissapointed.
Better have a 1000 yard back this year. Or it is total failsauce.
Probably gonna whiff in the draft too.

There are reports that we are trying to trade for Ben Tate from Houston.

I would be all in favor of that. I like Hillis, but I do think that Tate is an even better talent.

they better not trade for ben tate.. we already have a injury ridden rb in Hardesty...

Get a young back for cheap in the draft.. Bernard or Turbin.. .

Browns just messed up my day..

I agree.

Another example of these clowns letting good players go.

Sure he wanted to leave. They pushed him to the edge and he walked.

$3mil and we let the guy go......brilliant.

Sorry guys, we aren't going anywhere with these boobs in control.

$3mil on a 1 year deal?? Is this serious??

Wow....sad day in Brownstown.

I hate this. I can't believe they let him go.

I mean, whatever, I hope Hardesty tears it up, I want him to tear it up. But he has a better chance of tearing up his knee than the opposition.

This really sucks.

Ytown the Browns are very limited in what they say when it comes to medical issues. The problem was Hillis and his agent wouldn't shut the hell up. I swear you would think a guy with Strep could keep his jaw closed.

Everything was fine and Hillis makes the statement that he was going to play until his Agent advised him not to do so. Then he has his hammy injury and instead of attending his rehab session he skips and gets married. It was so bad that his teammates had a freaking intervention lol.

So lets not start the evil front office crap when you have a guy going off the deepend. Its just like people bitching becasue we cut Pashos after he sucked all year because he played injured.

Loved watching Hillis perform but you can't depend on him. Wish him all the best but we can do better.

Nah, they could have said what I just wrote, or a reasonable approximation, and been just fine.

"He's been very sick with something that could be contagious in its early stages, and thus we sent him home for a few days. He's lost a lot of weight and strength as a result, and he is evaluating, with the doctors, whether or not he will be able to play this weekend."

Non specific, and nothing that could get a team in trouble.

In fact, trouble didn't start until people started asking if Hillis "could have" played, and Shurmur hem hawed around instead of just saying "No he couldn't."

Imagine how much less drama there would have been with just those 2 words.

"Could Hillis have played?"

"No, he couldn't.

Case closed. Instead it dragged on forever.

Sad to see Peyton go. The Madden cover really gave the guy an inflated opinion of himself it seems.

What's next? Is Heckert going to come out and say he's content with Hardesty, Ogbonnaya, and Jackson?

Funny, but Im both happy and sad here..

On one hand, he was kinda fun to watch..jumping over guys, running over guys and through guys... that was fun

On the other hand he was kinda of a load of trouble and immaturity last year.

I'd still like to have him here, but seems to me he wanted the big payday and he wasn't going to get it here..

I wish him all the luck in the world.

Agreed Ballpeen.....

No running game, no receivers, no offense.....

Can't wait to see the product they put on the field....yeah, maybe I can!

Who's the best QB in next years draft? We will probably be in the position to trade down from #1 to get some more picks....

I won't miss the fumbles.
