I doubt we target Weeden with the #22 pick. Our 2nd rounder yes but I can't see any team between 23-37 using there pick on a rookie QB who will be 29 this season. Now us on the other hand...
If Weeden's not there with the 2nd round pick (if we were targeting him) then I think HH go after another QB later such as Cousins, Osweiller, or Foles
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

I would be much happier with Nick Foles over Weeden. And neither in the 1st round.

Foles should be available in the 4th if we go that route.
Even with his age Weeden is still I think a fringe 1st round prospect this year.

I agree on Foles being a 3rd / 4th round guy. I just think that Weeden is behind him.

I like Weeden better than Foles.
I like Osweiler better than both of them. I saw Osweilier moving his head (assuming his eyes) in the pocket and stepping up to avoid pressure. Also saw him makde some strong throws downfield (v. Oregon this year.)

I think you are referring to the wrong Baldwin - Jon Baldwin of the Chiefs, not Doug Baldwin of the Seahawks - he was an UDFA. They're kind of like the actors Baldwin, nobody knows which is which

I saw Osweiler early last year against Mizzou and USC and liked him a ton. He was fluid in the pocket and scrambling outside it and really didn't look like a galloping oaf that alot of 6'8" non-basketball players look like.
Then, I saw him against Arizona and Boise (bowl game) late in the year and he put up big passing numbers but looked terrible doing it.
I thought he needed another year of seasoning and could be a real good QB. Then, AZ State hires RichRod which basically forced his hand.

I don't think that Heckert was trying to blowing smoke up anyone's but when he raved about Weeden. I think that he probably really does like the young man.

I like Weeden but I dont like him good enough to take him before the 3rd. Age and lack of ability to move around are issues.

Agreed, that would naturally be more ideal to get him in the 3rd.

i don't like this Weeden idea at all. HIs agent is doing a really good job of making it sound like his age is not an issue. Of course its an issue. I hope the browns see thru this and just pass on him- if he's there in the fourth round fine, but not before then. And certainly not at #22.

I'd actually prefer Martin over Whitney.
I think we can find a solid DE at 37. Shoring up the line for the next 4-6 would be awesome...

Not a bad choice if Martin is off the board. He could go earlier ... I had him mocked to Arizona, but they also need a 5 tech DE, so I have them going with Fletcher Cox who can play in either DL. Martin's next home could be with the Bears if they think that he can be a LT, but with their team leader on defense availability this season a question mark coming off a MCL/PCL (Plus his age). I have them taking LB Luke Kuechly at pick 19.
Correction:
15), Eagles: OL, Cordy Glenn
16), Jets: SS, Mark Barron

I love the 4th pick and the Weeden idea for #37 (check out the Personnel Comparison to SF thread for my rationale or irrationale). RT is a huge need as well so good idea to pick a tackle there. Many think Martin is going to be a good tackle but his projections vary from one source to another.
Pro Football Weekly's 2012 Draft has Mike Adams as their 3rd ranked OT with Jonathan Martin ranking 7th. However, Pro Football Draft Guide 2012 has Martin ranked 3rd and Adams ranked 4th. Interestingly enough though, this guide sees Adams moving to the right side with Martin staying at LT. Adams is listed at 325 while Martin is listed at 300 at approximately the same 6'6" height (give or take an inch). As games advance and defenders get tired, that 325 pounds can take it's toll on a DE getting outweighed. This is especially so if we have a lead and we want to run the ball.
When I watched part of the Senior Bowl, Mike Adams completely ragdolled a talented kid like Courtney Upshaw in the 2nd half. Some are worried about his character so they might be more inclined to think Martin is a safer choice. Nothing wrong with that. If we did select Adams, we could lace that contract up with all kinds of achievable incentives.

I supposed Nick Perry could still be there at 37. I can envision Mercilus at 22 (by your mock, he's still there) and then shoring up the line w/ Bobby Massie at 37.
Or if we still needed that pass rusher in the 3rd, I'd hope Cam Johnson or Vinny Curry might still be there. And for right tackle you have Brandon Mosley and Mitchell Schwartz around, maybe Zebrie Sanders.
It's nice to say the draft is THIS month now . . .

I feel like I see Curry ALL OVER the place in differnt rankings and mocks . . . Seems like he'd be a major steal in the 3rd.

1st round contracts don't work like that.
He'll probably get a slight bump over last year's 22nd pick, with a significant portion of his contract guaranteed.
Last year's 22nd pick was Anthony Castonzo of the Colts, and he signed a 4 year, $8 million deal with the 1st 3 years fully guaranteed.

Thanks
Jonathan Martin weighed in at 312 and measured 6'5"
Mike Adams weighed in at 323 lbs and measured '6'7"
The eleven lb difference is not really an overwhelming factor, but I think that Martin will be better moving to RT, then will Adams. I think that both will need to get stronger with both of them under performing on the bench press, with 20 and 19 lifts respectively.
This isn't so unusual for rookie OT's and a year in the League can do wonders in strength and conditioning.
I just feel that Martin is more technically sound and he has a very smooth pass set. Both I think will start this year for their respective teams.
With the WCO using the short passing game as basically a substitute for the run ... I don't think that you necessarily need a big road grader at the RT position and nowadays many teams can come at your QB from either side of the OL and I just feel that the position is becoming more heavily valued around the League.
Save for you throwback teams.

All the same - I liked your thinking with it all. Great job of clarifying your preference of tackle too.

Just a few more thoughts on the subject of Martin and Adams.
I think that Martin is a little slower then you like your LT to be at the snap, but his technique is 2nd to only Kalil in this Draft and that's why I prefer him moving over to the right side tackle. He could have problems with the speed rushers on the weak side.
Certainly Sheard will get him prepared to play on the strong side, because he will be one of the quicker strong side DE's he will ever have to work against.
Adams is a little quicker at the snap, but his technique is not nearly as good (doesn't bend at the knees, he leans a lot and his poor balance and foot work could be exposed). He does have a good size advantage over most weak side DE's however and in the right system I think that he could be effective with further Coaching and development.
He could also be moved over to the right side, but with his length I think that he will get a chance to prove himself on the left side of the OL.
As far as character concerns with Adams ... I have no first hand knowledge of him to speak of him in that light. So I won't.

Mike Lombardi brought up the contract incentives on the NFL Channel last week regarding one of the top prospects with previous weight control issues. Since he used to work in a front office, I trusted what I heard.

Look at the top 25 or so contracts in the NFL draft last year and show me one that had such a clause.
