Zimmerman's lawyer was on tv last night and said that Zimmerman had his nose broken and a nasty cut in the back of his head from his head hitting the ground.

Well, this is getting more interesting, huh?

I still don't understand why zimmerman wasn't, at a minimum, taken into custody at the time. Stand Your Ground does not, to my understanding, mean "pursue". It simply allows someone in fear of death or great bodily harm to use justifiable force without having the duty to attempt to retreat first.

It does not, to my understanding, allow for "pursuit" - and as zimmerman himself has said, he followed Martin. SYG is for your protection at the time danger or peril occurs - it does not allow you to pursue.

Now, if this new witness is correct, I suppose zimmerman, if he was attacked, feared for himself - but he also is the one, apparently, that put himself in that position. From what I understand of the facts so far.

This will be interesting.

According to that story linked, it's saying Zimmerman was on his was back to his vehicle when attacked. That kind of eliminates the pursuit angle.

From the news story:

... Zimmerman said he was going back to his SUV when he was attacked by the teen.

If that's true, he was not "pursuing", he was retreating. This whole story is taking on a Tawana Brawley / Duke Lacrosse "rape" case feel. Unfortunately, with a much more tragic outcome.

Ah - I didn't see that. Reading ..........it's a good thing, right? Skimming? Not so much.

Regardless - it will be interesting how this all plays out - especially if the race thing get's eliminated.

But - I still don't understand why z shot and killed someone, and didn't, at a minimum, get taken in for questioning, etc.

I mean - here in Ohio - if someone breaks into my home, with a gun, and fires it, I'm in fear for my life......I kill the guy....cops come - I've been told I WILL more than likely be arrested and taken in and spend at least a night in jail until things get sorted out by the prosecutor.

That story still leaves several areas uncovered. Did the witness, witness the entire altercation or did he happen to see just the part where Trayvon, probably afraid of who was following him, defending himself--rather well at that point?

Stepping outside my self as a middle aged white guy, I would think that as a young black kid Trayvon was well aware enough of the climate surrounding him. And as Zimmerman states in his call he already had him pegged as an "f- punk."

He's just a kid. He may be mature or immature for his age, but by all accounts he was a good kid. He may have felt he needed to defend himself from Zimmerman.

Given what I have read about the character of Zimmerman and Martin I am on the fence that Zimmerman provoked/initiated the confrontation--the story though mentions that Zimmerman was on his way back to his SUV a "fact" that I am skeptical of. Unless I am missing something it doesn't fit with the calls and where he was shot. He says Trayvon was running --away-- from him. So . . .

As a sidebar, I really wish Al Sharpton wouldn't have gone down there, all he does is rile people and make a spectacle of himself.

I think he shot him because he was getting the bleep beat out of him ... if the attack was unprovoked, its self-defense. There's a lot we don't know, and might never know, but the witness, Zimmerman's condition (broken nose, facial bruises, lacerated back of his head, grass stains on his back, etc), and his testimony that he was retreating tend to clear him, imo.

I have a serious question.

If this law works one way, why doesn't it work the other way?

Martin was being pursued by Zimmerman, who followed him in his vehicle, then got out and followed him around on foot before being told not to. Martin was innocent of any and all wrongdoing, and did what he felt was necessary to protect himself. Unfortunately, the person who he felt was putting him in danger was armed, and shot and killed him.

If anyone deserves the protection of this law, it's Martin, not Zimmerman. Zimmerman's actions are the cause of the entire confrontation, and murder, and Martin's the response of a kid probably in fear for his life.

One other thing ... I think I heard or read that this was a "gated community" ... does that not mean it was private property? If Martin was not a resident, was he trespassing?

We have one of those gated communities in my neighborhood that I used to cut through walking my dogs. They didn't poop there or anything - we just walked through it to have a more circular route back to my house, instead of a straight back and forth. One day, a private security cop approached me and asked if I lived there. When I said no, he told me I was trespassing and that next time I'd be prosecuted.

If someone is walking around my neighborhood I have every right to walk behind them. If that person attacks me for walking behind them I have the right to defend myself. The real question will be did he instigate the confrontation by calling names or something else.

I think its important to note once again that Zimmerman, by all available information (which I admit is scarce), was retreating when Martin attacked him. If that's true, the shooting is self-defense, imo.

If you break into my house, and I punch you in the head, and chase you out of the upstairs, but you wait downstairs and shoot me, is that self defense? I hit you first, does that give you the right to "defend" yourself?

Zimmerman created the entire chain of events that led to the supposed threat to his life. I find it impossible to believe that a self defense law could be used in such a case.

Martin was supposed to be visiting family, I believe it was his dad' and took a break from an NBA game to go to the store to get some skittles and an iced tea for him or his brother.

Arch, you are very correct. Even if this was self defense, why did they not do a gun shot residue test on Zimmerman or take his clothes or give him a drug/booze test. This is all standard Florida police procedure even with the law. This witness and Zimmerman said that he was at his car and was attacked. Did the police view the results of this attack? Two woman who came out of their houses after hearing the gunshot saw Zimmerman standing over Martin who was laying face down. Did Zimmerman shoot him in the back as Martin was trying to get away or did Zimmerman shoot him as Martin was coming at him and Martin spun around from the force of the shot.

Not a good analogy, because the fact that I was in your house at all would pretty much preclude any claims of self-defense I might have ... but then again, I'm no lawyer. Zimmerman may have said something to Martin that provoked him, but nobody ever died from words. Even if he used the most vile racial slur you could think of, I don't believe it would mitigate - legally - chasing a guy down and beating the crap out of him. I know we have lawyers that post here, and would like to hear their opinions on this.

I believe he was with his dad, at his dad's girlfriends house. He left to go to a gas station. He did have "permission" to be there.

These are all things WE don't know.

IMO, this rush to judgment thing hinges on "a black kid was killed by a white guy.....well, wait, he was a hispanic guy........but we'll call him a white hispanic."

The public - and I include myself in that/this - do NOT know all the facts.

A 17 year old kid is dead (and truthfully, the age doesn't matter, although it makes it seem "worse" than if, say, a 45 yr. old had been killed).........I'm still curious as to why z wasn't taken in for printing, questioning, etc. My understanding of the law is, ANY time deadly force is used - even if it is determined to be justifiable - you're going to spend some time at the police station and in a cell.

I just read that Martin's father lives there with his fiancee, so the young man had a right to be there.

This is from Mother Jones

Martin, a Miami native, was visiting his father in Sanford and watching the NBA All-Star game at a house in a gated Sanford community, the Retreat at Twin Lakes. At halftime, Martin walked out to the nearby 7-Eleven to get some Skittles and Arizona Iced Tea. On his return trip, he drew the attention of Zimmerman, who was patrolling the neighborhood in a sport-utility vehicle and called 911 to report "a real suspicious guy."
Read about how the NRA pushed for the right to pack heat anywhere in America.

"This guy looks like he's up to no good or he's on drugs or something," Zimmerman told the dispatcher. "It's raining, and he's just walking around looking about." The man tried to explain where he was. "Now he's coming towards me. He's got his hand in his waistband. And he's a black male...Something's wrong with him. Yup, he's coming to check me out. He's got something in his hands. I don't know what his deal is...These assholes, they always get away."

After discussing his location with the dispatcher, Zimmerman exclaimed, ". he's running," and the following sounds suggest he left his vehicle to run after Martin.

"Are you following him?" the dispatcher asked. Zimmerman replied: "Yep."

"Okay, we don't need you to do that," the dispatcher warned.

Several minutes later, according to other callers to 911 in the neighborhood, Zimmerman and Martin got into a wrestling match on the ground. One of the pair could be heard screaming for help. Then a single shot rang out, and Martin lay dead.

I could swear I read somewhere where Tryavon was shot in the chest. But this story and other I have read have Zimmerman chasing him down, not returning to his vehicle, ALTHOUGH, Trayvon was a football player and as an athlete was probably a lot faster than Zimmerman. I am thinking Zimmerman caught up to him finally and didn't want the kid to get away after Trayvon started to whoop his butt.

Also, here in Florida, even if you acted in self-defense, it is a given you will be cuffed and taken to the station while they clear everything up. I would think especially if the victim isn't alive to tell their side, and there are no other witnesses to corraborate your self-defense story. It is something I discussed with a firearms attorney I know here, and police officers.

Cartoon brings up a good point - had Martin had a gun he would have been just as (or more) justified to kill Zimmerman as the other way around.

I suppose this was inevitable - but according to cnn the New Black Panther party has put a $10,000 bounty on zimmerman. Basically saying "we'll pay some one or some group to get zimmerman, bring him to us, and we'll take him to the authorities since he'd be safer in jail than out on the streets.

"The New Black Panther Party announced on Saturday it was offering a $10,000 bounty for Zimmerman.

"We will reward that individual or group of people who take George Zimmerman into custody and we will deliver him to the authorities. They would be better off holding him than letting him out on the street because there is an angry mindset among black people," said Mikhail Muhammad of the New Black Panther Party, a black political organization that takes its name from the radical movement of the 1960s."

Apparently they aren't aware that what they are proposing is kidnapping. (and again - for the record - my thoughts on this whole thing are posted in this thread - I'm not for or against any individual. My questions have been posted, etc)

Yep. Everyone outraged and forgot about Duke case already. People don't learn. Especially those blinded with racism for either side. Another rush to judgement. I was wondering if Zimmerman were black if we would be having all the hoody stuff and what Rev. Al and Jesse would being doing to find relevancy. Scratch that. I already know the answer.

Now we have the black panthers putting a 10K bounty out on Zimmerman web page I could only imagine the outrage if a white supremest group did the same thing in reversed roles.

None of this is right. The whole thing is a stinking pile of excrement starting with a dead Trayvon and Zimmerman. The police. The media. The biased outrage. The profiteering (mom trademarked "I Am Trayvon" ). The bounty hunters. What a mess.

Edit: Wondering why is a 1/2 White - 1/2 Hispanic man = white male, but a 1/2 White - 1/2 Black man = the first Black President?

Do some research on Martin..

I stumbled on all kinds of stuff, and the pictures we see of him in his football uniform and such are all 5-6 years old of a young 12 year old innocent looking kid.

The longer this drags on the more dirt they will dig up on the kid as well as Zimmerman, but the kid isn't looking like the youthful innocent child anymore than Zimmerman was just a soft spoken neighborhood watchman.

what does any of that matter? Martin was walking down the street and the 911 tape says Zimmerman was calling at Martin and chasing him.

I not saying who is guilty or innocent, but showing how the media is forming public opinion by painting Zimmerman as a tough guy with a history, and Martin as an innocent young model student.

if evidence cme out that Martin was high on PCP, had affiliations with gangs, and a history of being confrontational, wouldn't that change many people perceptions of him.

911 dispatcher:
OK, is he White, Black, or Hispanic?

Zimmerman:
He looks black.

911 dispatcher:
Did you see what he was wearing?

Zimmerman:
Yeah, a dark hoodie like a gray hoodie. He wore jeans or sweat pants and white tennis shoes. He’s here now … he’s just staring. [00:42]

911 dispatcher:
He’s just walking around the area, the houses? OK.

Zimmerman:
Now he’s staring at me. [00:48]

911 dispatcher:
OK, you said that’s 1111 Retreat View or 111?

Zimmerman:
That’s the clubhouse.

911 dispatcher:
He’s near the clubhouse now?

Zimmerman:
Yeah, now he’s coming toward me. He’s got his hands in his waist band.
And he’s a black male.[1:03]

911 dispatcher:
How old would you say he is?

Zimmerman:
He’s got something on his shirt. About like his late teens.

911 dispatcher:
Late teens?

Zimmerman:
Uh, huh.
Something’s wrong with him. Yep, he’s coming to check me out.
He’s got something in his hands. I don’t know what his deal is. [01:20]

911 dispatcher:
Let me know if he does anything, OK?

Zimmerman:
OK.

911 dispatcher:
We’ve got him on the wire. Just let me know if this guy does anything else.

Zimmerman:
OK.
These assholes. They always get away.
When you come to the clubhouse, you come straight in and you go left. Actually, you would go past the clubhouse. [1:39]

911 dispatcher:
OK, so it’s on the left hand side of the clubhouse?

Zimmerman:
Yeah. You go in straight through the entrance and then you would go left. You go straight in, don’t turn and make a left.
He’s running. [2:08]

911 dispatcher:
He’s running? Which way is he running?

Zimmerman:
Down toward the other entrance of the neighborhood. [2:14]

911 dispatcher:
OK, which entrance is that he’s headed towards?

Zimmerman:
The back entrance.
[It sounds like Zimmerman says under his breath, ‘F-ing coons’ at 2:22]

911 dispatcher:
Are you following him? [2:24]

Zimmerman:
Yeah. [2:25]

911 dispatcher:
OK.
We don’t need you to do that. [2:26]

Zimmerman:
OK. [2:28]

911 dispatcher:
Alright, sir, what is your name? [2:34]

Zimmerman:
George. He ran.

911 dispatcher:
Alright, George, what’s your last name?

Zimmerman:
Zimmerman.

911 dispatcher:
What’s the phone number you’re calling from?

Zimmerman:
407-435-2400

911 dispatcher:
Alright, George, we do have them on the way. Do you want to meet with the officer when they get out there?

Zimmerman:
Yeah.

911 dispatcher:
Alright, where are you going to meet with them at?

Zimmerman:
Um, if they come in through the gate, tell them to go straight past the clubhouse and, uh, straight past the clubhouse and make a left and then go past the mailboxes you’ll see my truck. [3:10]

911 dispatcher:
Alright, what address are you parked in front of? [3:21]

Zimmerman:
Um, I don’t know. It’s a cut-through so I don’t know the address. [3:25]

911 dispatcher:
OK, do you live in the area?

Zimmerman:
Yeah, yeah, I live here.

911 dispatcher:
OK, what’s your apartment number?

Zimmerman:
It’s a home. It’s 1950 – oh, crap, I don’t want to give it out – I don’t know where this kid is [inaudible] [3:40]

911 dispatcher:
OK, do you just want to meet with them at the mailboxes then? [3:42]

Zimmerman:
Yeah, that’s fine. [3:43]

911 dispatcher:
Alright, George, I’ll let them know you’ll meet them at …

Zimmerman:
Could you have them call me and I’ll tell them where I’m at? [3:49]

911 dispatcher:
OK, that’s no problem.

Zimmerman:
My number … you’ve got it?

911 dispatcher:
Yeah, I’ve got it. 435-2400?

Zimmerman:
Yeah, you got it.

911 dispatcher:
OK, no problem. I’ll let them know to call you when they’re in the area. [4:02]

Zimmerman:
Thanks.

911 dispatcher:

The mother of slain teen Trayvon Martin wants to trademark her son's name in the slogans, "I am Trayvon" and "Justice for Trayvon," according to two petitions filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Federal documents show Sybrina Fulton, the teen's mother, is the owner of the trademark petitions, which were filed online March 21 by her attorneys Kimra Major-Morris and Natalie Jackson of the Women's Trial Group.

The trademarks, if granted, would cover digital materials, including DVDs, CDs and audio recordings featuring Trayvon. Each trademark application costs $325.

Sanford Neighborhood Watch coordinator George Zimmerman shot 17-year-old Trayvon to death Feb. 26. He told authorities he shot the teen in self-defense.

This story has gone international, as the UK has info. It may be the Daily Mail which is basically tabloid, but they present a lot of info condensed in a single article, almost all of which i have seen through out other articles elsewhere.

Trayvon Martin was suspended from school three times in the months before he was shot dead by a neighborhood watchman, it emerged today.

The new claims, revealed in a leaked report, paint a different picture of a teenager who frequently found himself in trouble with authorities.

It was also revealed that he might have attacked a bus driver, according to a Twitter account that it is claimed belonged to the teen.

The Miami Herald claims that in October, he was caught with a 'burglary tool' - a flathead screwdriver - and 12 pieces of women's jewellery. Martin insisted that they did not belong to him.

Earlier, he had been suspended for skipping school and showing up late to class. And most recently, in February, he was suspended again when officials found a 'marijuana pipe' and an empty baggie with traces of the drug.

The fresh claims are likely to be seized upon by supporters of George Zimmerman who say the teenager launched an unprovoked attack on the neighbourhood watch volunteer moments before Trayvon was shot dead.

The revelation about the suspension in October, in a school report obtained by the Herald, was condemned today by Trayvon's family as part of a campaign to smear their dead son.
The boy's mother said: 'They killed my son and now they're trying to kill his reputation.'

The conservative news site the Daily Caller and the blog the Wagist claim they have unearthed a Twitter account, which has since been taken down, that belonged to the teen.
Among many Tweets, the Wagist claims, is a message from his cousin implying that Trayvon attacked a bus driver.
'Yu ain't tell me yu swung on a bus driver,' a user Tweeted

The Daily Caller, says it has published 152 pages of tweets downloaded from Trayvon's account. The site says Trayvon went by the Twitter handle NO_LIMIT_N***A.

A few of the messages make reference to using drugs including one that says: 'Finna (I'm fixing to) smoke 1 wit my dawg wayne.'
But most are simply a take on daily life -- the same as most social media accounts.
'PLZZ EXERCISE YO RIGHT 2 REMAIN SILENT.. DAM,' he says.

Another says: '2 glock 40's... b**** you got 80 problems.'

Meanwhile, Joe Oliver, Zimmerman's longtime friend, told Good Morning America Monday that no matter how the case comes out -- even if the shooting is ruled justified -- 'George has virtually lost his life, too.'
Mr Oliver said Zimmerman has gone into hiding and is in fear of his life over the public outcry for his arrest. A fringe group, the New Black Panther Party, has offered a $10,000 reward for his 'capture.'

The boy’s parents say that they have never heard the claim about the screw driver and jewellery.

The October suspension was officially for graffiti, after he and some friends wrote ‘W.T.F.’ on a school locker.

According to an October report of the incident by the Miami Dade Schools Police, obtained by the Miami Herald, Trayvon never received any punishment for the jewellery because he said it was not his and it belonged to a friend.

In total, he had 12 pieces of mostly women’s rings and earrings in his bag.
Instead, he was suspended on October 21for the graffiti charge.

Ben Crump, a lawyer for Trayvon’s parents, said that they ‘never heard anything like this about a bag of jewellery….And anyway, it’s completely irrelevant to what happened February 26.

‘They never heard this, and don’t believe it’s true. If it were true, why wouldn’t they call the parents? Why wasn’t he arrested?
‘We think everybody is trying to demonize him.’

The Martin family has admitted that the October suspension was his second, and that he had previously been suspended for tardiness and truancy.

The third, and arguably most serious suspension, came in February in the days leading up to his death.
According to the Miami Herald, Miami-Dade Schools Police reported finding a bag with marijuana residue and a ‘marijuana pipe’ in the 17-year-old’s possession.

The boy was never criminally charged, but the Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to drug related incidents so he was suspended for an undisclosed amount of time.
Mr Crump said: ‘If he and his friends experimented with marijuana, that is completely irrelevant. What does it have to do with killing their son?’

After rallies and meetings all day Monday in Sanford, Florida, where the shooting occurred, Trayvon's parents are expected to appear on Capitol Hill Tuesday as the US Congress takes up the issue of racial profiling.
The hearing in front of the House Judiciary Committee comes as nearly three quarters of Americans believe Zimmerman should be arrested, according to a CNN/ORC International poll.

Only 11 percent of the people surveyed believe Zimmerman should not be arrested. The rest are unsure.

The unanimity against Zimmerman's shooting even crosses racial and lines. About 67 percent of whites support his arrest and 86 percent of non-whites. Majorities of Republicans, Democrats and independents are all on the same page.

At a Sanford City Council meeting Monday, which turned into a public forum on the Trayvon shooting, Rev Al Sharpton gave city leaders a petition with 2 million signatures of people calling for Zimmerman to be locked up.

The new details about Trayvon’s past come the same day as thousands marched through the streets of Sanford, where the shooting happened, to demand justice.

The boy's mother and father joined the rally, where they called for justice.

His mother said: 'I know I cannot bring my baby back. But I’m sure going to make changes so that does not happen to another family.'
While his father Tracy said Zimmmerman 'needs to be arrested'. 'He needs to be put on trial.

The national attention from perennial leaders of the black community, Sharpton and Rev Jesse Jackson is not welcome, according to C.L. Bryant, the former head of the NAACP in Garland, Texas.
'His family should be outraged at the fact that they’re using this child as the bait to inflame racial passions,' the conservative pastor told the Daily Caller.

He said they were 'acting as though they are buzzards circling the carcass of this young boy.'

Trayvon's parents and civil rights leaders spoke after a dramatic police account of the fatal shooting claimed the black teen launched an unprovoked attack on the neighborhood watch volunteer in which he punched him in the face, knocked him to the ground and then bashed his head into the sidewalk several times before trying to grab his gun.

The report, leaked to the Orlando Sentinel and ABC News and based on anonymous sources, supports accounts from George Zimmerman's allies that he acted in self-defense when he shot dead the 17-year-old one month ago in Sanford Florida.

The embattled Sanford Police Department, while condemning the leak, confirmed that the story was consistent with information private to the State Attorney's office, which is currently considering whether to file charges against Zimmerman.
The police account is also based mostly on Zimmerman's own words to officers after they arrived at the gated community February 26, but it is the most complete picture of his side of the shooting that has been released publicly.

As the Orland Sentinel reports, Zimmerman got out of his car and followed Trayvon as he walked back to the home of his father's girlfriend after picking up snacks at a local convenience store.

Zimmerman called 911 to report a suspicious black teenager who looked like he might be on drugs.
As he walked after the teen, the police dispatcher told Zimmerman he didn't need to keep following.
A minute passes and police don't know what happens.

Then, according to Zimmerman, Trayvon approached him from behind and they 'exchanged words.'
Trayvon asked Zimmerman if he had a problem. Zimmerman said, 'no.'

Then, according to Zimmerman, Trayvon said, 'Well now you do,' and unexpectedly punched Zimmerman in the face, knocking him to the ground.

Trayvon, 6-foot-3 and 140 pounds, then reportedly climbed on top of the 250-pound Zimmerman and bashed his head into the sidewalk several times

One unidentified witness, who did not see the shooting, said he saw a younger man on top of an older man and the older man was screaming for help.

Police say the cries that witnesses reported, which Trayvon's family say were coming from the teen, are actually likely from Zimmerman.

Zimmerman, who had a permit to carry a handgun, shot Trayvon once in the chest at very close range, killing him.
'If he and his friends experimented with marijuana, that is completely irrelevant. What does it have to do with killing their son?'

According to police reports and accounts given by Zimmerman's lawyer, Craig Sooner, the 28-year-old's nose was bloody or broken, his lip was bleeding and he had a bloody gash on the back of his head.

As the national outcry over the shooting continued to gather momentum, Zimmerman's allies say he was in a 'fight for his life.'

'It's not a racial issue. George Zimmerman is absolutely not a racist,' Zimmerman's lawyer told the Today Show Monday. Zimmerman is half white and half Hispanic.

His friend Joe Oliver joined his lawyer for several TV interviews Sunday and Monday to publicly defend Zimmerman.
'The bottom line is there was a life and death struggle in that instance and someone was going to die,' Mr Oliver told the Today Show.

Because he was there and he knows what happened...he's been very confident -- naively -- that this would all blow over,' Mr Oliver said in an appearance on ABC's Good Morning America Sunday. He added that Zimmerman cried for days after the incident.

Police did not arrest Zimmerman after the February 26 because he cited Florida's so-called 'Stand Your Ground' law, which does not require residents to retreat and allows them to defend themselves when they have reasonable belief that they will be killed or severely injured.

That law could also make it difficult to win a conviction if they file charges against Zimmerman, a top prosecutor told Good Morning America Monday.

'The Stand Your Ground law is one portion of justifiable use of deadly force,' veteran State Attorney Angela Corey said.
'And what that means is that the state must go forward and be able to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt… So it makes the case in general more difficult than a normal criminal case.'

Despite being legally justified, according to friends, Zimmerman is remorseful about killing Trayvon.
Mr Oliver said Zimmerman wishes he could tell the boy's parents he is 'very, very sorry.'

Furthermore, Mr Oliver says, Zimmerman, who is currently in hiding, didn't stop crying for days after the killing.
The interviews comes the same day as a new report says that Justice Department investigators may try to charge him with a hate crime, and they are thought to be using the alleged murmuring on the 911 call to argue he said a racial slur before fatally shooting the teen.

'If that was a racial epithet that preceded the attack on Trayvon Martin, we definitely have a hate crime,' said Drexel University law professor Donald Tibbs.

'It sounds pretty obvious to me.'

Even if Zimmerman is not charged, the entire Sanford police department may be investigated regardless to see if they destroyed or hid any evidence during their initial investigation.

Mr Oliver also identified the voice screaming in the now-infamous 911 tapes as the Neighbourhood Watch captain, not of Martin as the teen's parents claim.

‘From the clips that I’ve heard online, I heard George. That sounded like someone who was in dire need of help. It sounded like George.’

'At that point, either George or Trayvon was going to die.'

Despite the defense from Zimmerman's allies, a new witness has stepped forward and said she and her roommate heard Trayvon screaming before hearing a shot being fired.

In an interview which aired on Dateline NBC Sunday night, Mary Cutcher said that she and her roommate ran out after hearing the shot.

We both saw him straddling the body, basically, a foot on both sides of Trayvon’s body and his hands pressed on his back,’ Ms Cutcher said of she and her roommate.

‘It sounded young. It didn’t sound like a grown man is my point. It sounded to me like someone was in distress and it wasn’t like a crying, sobbing boo-hoo, it was a definite whine.

‘He started walking back and forth like three times with his hand on the head and kind of, he was walking like kind of confused.

‘He was in shock.’

This version of events plays into the beliefs of millions of protestors who have called for Zimmerman to be charged with murder for shooting the teen and believe the killing was racially motivated.

Ms Fulton, Trayvon's mother, filed applications with the U.S. Trademark and Patent Office to seek ownership of the phrases 'I Am Trayvon' and 'Justice for Trayvon’ which supporters have adopted as rallying cries.

Ms Fulton's lawyer, Ms Major Morris, told the Associated Press that the money that will be gathered from the trademark will go to 'projects that will assist other families who experience similar tragedies'.

She denied that Ms Fulton had any intention of profiting from the move.

The case has become a national issue, and the slain teen's parents have both quit their jobs to help see that the fight for justice continues. In that effort, they have allowed their lawyers to set up a donation fund for the legal costs, but now they fear that other fake sites have sprung up, hoping to profit from the national outrage.

Great....

All we need now is an Akita's "plaintive wail", a bloody glove, Kato Kaelin, and a slow Bronco chase. Too much information, conflicting information and/or dis-information coming out of this thing.

If Zimmerman walks, its going to set race relations back. This guy is already convicted in the minds of more than a majority of the people.

One thing about that 911 call, Zimmerman first says, "He looks black." then confirms it later. To me, the call doesn't sound like he was targeting the kid initially for being black. Just my observation.

And I hope to God that this has absolutely zero bearing on anything.
