Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Browns will bring in Tannehill as one of their 30 pre-draft visits. That doesn’t necessarily mean the Browns view Tannehill as their best bet with the fourth overall pick in the NFL draft, but it’s still a move they’re considering.

It would be dumb if we didn't bring him in.

Cleveland Browns will host Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill for pre-draft visit Published: Tuesday, March 27, 2012, 1:55 PM Updated: Tuesday, March 27, 2012, 2:03 PM Mary Kay Cabot, The Plain Dealer By Mary Kay Cabot, The Plain Dealer PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Browns will bring in Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill as one of their pre-draft visits, a league source told the Plain Dealer. The Browns will also be represented at Tannehill's Pro Day on Thursday, according to Browns coach Pat Shurmur, who wasn't certain if that's the one he'll be attending that day. Tannehill, one of about five players the Browns are considering with their No. 4 overall pick, is coming off surgery to repair a stress fracture in his right foot and didn't work out or run at the NFL Combine last month. Over the next couple of weeks, the Browns are expected to bring in most of the players they're considering with their top pick, and others that they're pondering with later selections. Teams are permitted to bring in 30 players for visits, not including the group of locals they can host. During the visits, players can be interviewed and examined by the medical staff, but not worked out. Other players the Browns will either bring in for visits or work out privately include the following: Louisiana State defensive tackle Michael Brocker, Louisiana-Lafayette tight end Ladarius Green, West Virginia defensive end/outside linebacker Bruce Irvin, Stanford offensive tackle Jonathan Martin, Illinois defensive end Whitney Mercilus (an Akron native), Cincinnati running back Isaiah Pead, and Virginia Tech running back David Wilson. Shurmur said today of running backs Wilson, a projected first- or second-rounder, and Pead, a second- or third-rounder: "These guys are getting a lot of production. They're having great success. Both David and Isaiah have had success as runners and pass receivers in their respective offenses.'' As for whether or not Tannehill can start right away with only 19 college starts to his credit, Shurmur said "whereever he goes, he'll have to come in and learn the system like any other quarterback.'' He described Mercilus, who led the nation with 16 sacks and nine forced fumbles, as "an outstanding player.'' web page +++++++++++++++++++++++ So why are some allowed to come in and work out and others are not? Used to be guy comes in works out with your receivers to get a feel for how they are connecting. Aren't they allowed to do that with the new CBA.

Teams are allowed only a limited number of private visits at their facilities.

Correct. However that 'limited' number is 30 visits allowed, so we can host quite a few guys.
If we (or any team) were to schedule our allotted 30 then we can also go visit the others at their place with no restrictions on how many we visit. Also, we can host an unlimited number of 'local' prospects, I don't remember the distance (75 miles comes to mind, but that might be off by a bit). These 'locals' can visit and do not count as one of the 30. Of course Tannehill is outside that range.
This could have all changed in the last CBA, but I haven't read that if it has.
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).

Richardson probably feels that he has nothing to gain and perhaps he could have something to lose with a poor showing.

I think he is asking why we can workout some players but not others. I don't understand that either.

We already know that there is a limit (30), but not only that ... but it also becomes a scheduling task.
Some might be booked up on some of your open dates, while others prospects might also have other obligations on some otherwise open dates and you also have to make the time on your own schedule.
I also think that the agents who represent them could influence things as far as visits too.

I want Alshon to step it up, but if he does extremely well he could jump back into first round consideration EASY.

Link Mary Kay Cabot, The Plain Dealer By Mary Kay Cabot, The Plain Dealer Justin BlackmonOklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon will be one of the Browns 30 pre-draft visits. CLEVELAND -- Add receiver Justin Blackmon, quarterbacks Brandon Weeden and Kirk Cousins, running back Trent Richardson and cornerback Morris Claiborne to the list of 30 players the Browns will bring in for pre-draft visits, league sources said. Already on the list are a handful of players, including quarterback Ryan Tannehill, defensive end Whitney Mercilus and Virginia Tech running back David Wilson. Of the newcomers on the list, Blackmon, Claiborne and Richardson are all on the Browns' radar with their No. 4 overall pick. Weeden and Cousins would be candidates for the No. 22 and No. 37 overall picks, or earlier if the Browns trade up in the first round. They have a league-high 13 picks in this draft, and will undoubtedly do some wheeling and dealing. In addition to the visits, the Browns will conduct private campus workouts with some of their prospects, including Tannehill. Pro Football Weekly Nolan Nawrocki said on a conference call Wednesday that he favors Richardson for the Browns to Blackmon, whom he feels has character concerns. “In the AFC North, one thing you want to establish is the power-based running game,'' said the always outspoken Nawrocki. "Richardson would allow you to do that. He’s as good as any back who has been in college football the last four years. He will come in from day one and make a difference. He could potentially run for 1,500 yards as a rookie.'' Nawrocki said there are red flags with Blackmon, who had a DUI in 2010 and was suspended for a game. "He has shown a lot of talent, but more and more concerns are coming up about the maturity level,'' he said. "That needs to be investigated closely.'' Blackmon ran an impressive 4.46 at his Pro Day, "but many left his pro day unimpressed,” Nawrocki said. Kirk CousinsAssociated PressCould the Browns really be interested in Michigan State QB Kirk Cousins? Nawrocki also favors Cousins to Tannehill and Weeden for the Browns. "I'm coming at it a little differently than (Browns) President Mike Holmgren has," Nawrocki said. "They've decided to use more of a precision-based, West Coast timing, rhythm passing game. The guy that stands out after Luck in this year's draft in that category to me is Kirk Cousins of Michigan State. He'd make a lot of sense for the Browns.'' Nawrocki added, "If I were running the Browns, I'd look for more size at (the quarterback) position.," Nawrocki said. "I would try to convert the offense they're running and go to a more power-base type scheme because that's what is winning now. "That's what the Steelers have done and that's largely what the Ravens have done. Those are the two teams they have to knock off. Ben Roethlisberger and Joe Flacco have the arm strength and size and toughness and flair. That's what makes those offenses and those quarterbacks in that division.'' The Browns will also be represented today at the Pro Days of Tannehill and Richardson, who are coming off surgeries. Tannehill recently underwent foot surgery and Richardson underwent a minor knee scope. Isn't Cousins who Django is so high on? Seriously, if H&H really think this guy is a project to take on and he fell to us at pick 100, I wouldn't mind. I guess if they took him at pick 67, I'd be iffy at first but would probably not lose any sleep over it.

[quotIsn't Cousins who Django is so high on?e]
I've been doing some reading on Cousins and it seems that a lot of "experts" (take that for what it's worth) think he'd be good in this offense. That is a sort of dink and dunk with good accuracy. That being said, I know little other than what I've read, but the write-ups make him seem worth it in the 3rd more than a reach for Tanneyhill or Weeden earlier.

The guy Dj is really high on is Weeden.
He may be high on Cousins too, I don't know and don't want to speak for him. But Weeden is the guy he has pimped a lot this year.

Cousins is meh...he isn't terrible and he may end up being a decent QB but he's not a guy I would want for the Browns right now...he had a decent Offseason and that pushed him over Foles and Lindley who had rather bad ones...I wouldn't like us to invest a Top 100 pick on Cousins, which pretty much eliminates us from contention

It's pretty obvious you don't know what you're talking about since Pro Football Weekly's Nolan Nawrocki said Cousins is good. [/purple]

Well, if he had a god offseason ....... then that's pretty good, because a god could do anything ......... I'm not a fan of "this guy fits our offense because he has decent but not elite accuracy, and no arm strength." I don't want a guy whose passes are going to get hung up in the jet stream in CBS in December. I want a guy who can hit receivers immediately, not a guy who makes receivers wait on the pass. Some of that can be helped with elite anticipation, similar to that which Bernie had, but I want a guy with a great arm to go with the rest. I am tired of guys who are supposed to be NFL ready, but who have no arm and accomplish nothing except take up space for the next guy who's not going to work out either.

I like Cousins, He's a good solid QB with a lot more experience and can make all the NFL passes and more upside imo then Tannehill.
I still wouldn't think of taking him till 3rd round.

Cleveland Browns 2012 NFL Draft: Tracking prospects with workouts or visits set up with Browns By Nate Ulrich Published: April 2, 2012
Originally posted March 22; updated April 2
As the 2012 NFL Draft approaches, prospects are visiting and working out for teams. Below is a list of prospects with whom the Browns have reportedly set up meetings.
A couple of notes about the list: It will continue to be updated leading up to the draft, which runs April 26-28; Last year, a similar list was featured on this blog. Defensive tackle Phil Taylor, wide receiver Greg Little, cornerback Buster Skrine and offensive lineman Dominic Alford were prospects who made the list and ended up with the Browns.

Cleveland Browns will keep busy with visits from draft candidates this weekBy Mary Kay Cabot, The Plain Dealer The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Notre Dame receiver Michael Floyd and Boise State running back Doug Martin are among the big-name draft prospects the Browns are hosting for pre-draft visits this week, a league source said. Others are Oklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden, Alabama running back Trent Richardson, Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill, LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne, Illinois defensive end Whitney Mercilus, Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill, Michigan State quarterback Kirk Cousins, Virginia Tech running back David Wilson and LSU defensive tackle Michael Brockers. Teams are permitted to bring in 30 players for visits, not including local players who grew up within 50 miles of the facility. The visits must be concluded a week before the draft, which is April 26-28. The Browns do not confirm pre-draft visits. The visits by Floyd and Martin indicate the Browns are keeping their options open with their No. 4 pick. Floyd is gaining some momentum as a top 10 pick, and could be a candidate for the Browns if they trade down from No. 4, or up from No. 22. They currently own the fourth, 22nd and 37th picks. Browns General Manager Tom Heckert has said he'd be willing to trade down, but only a few spots. Floyd has good size (6-3, 229) and speed (4.47) and was the most productive receiver in Notre Dame history. In 2011, he caught 100 passes for 1,147 yards and nine touchdowns. He'll catch passes at his Pro Day Tuesday from former Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen, now with the Panthers. Nfldraftscout.com's Chad Reuter writes of Floyd, "Should excel in a West Coast or timing-type of offense. Lined up at every receiver position to take advantage of the best matchup. Solid threat on slants, shallow crosses and in the red zone. ... More of a bull than a cheetah [after the catch]. Will not outrun NFL defensive backs, but has more than enough speed to turn short passes into long gains when his quarterback leads him." The knock on Floyd is that he had three alcohol-related incidents in college, and teams will have to feel certain those issues are behind him. Martin, the Boise State back, is a player the Browns will strongly consider with their No. 22 or 37 picks if they pass on Richardson. At 5-9 and 223 pounds, Martin rushed for 1,299 yards and 16 touchdowns last season, and caught 28 passes for 255 yards and two TDs. Reuter describes Martin as "a bowling-ball runner between the tackles. Flashes a burst into and out of the hole. Lowers his pads and delivers a blow into the chest of defenders. Falls forward on nearly every run due to lean." As for his outside ability, he displays "good acceleration and straight-line speed to break off long runs. Cuts hard to his left and right equally well to avoid hard-charging safeties. Flashes setting up straight-on defender with inside-out cut which freezes them. Strong stiff-arm denies oncoming tacklers." Heckert has said the Browns are strongly considering about five players with their No. 4 pick who are equally good. Therefore, he'd be willing to trade back if he can. "But it's still early," Heckert said. "We might fall in love with one of those guys when we have everyone in and say 'hey, we've got to have this guy, just forget it. We're going to stay there and take him,' which could happen." The Browns will also conduct private workouts with some of their top prospects, including Tannehill and Richardson. During visits to Cleveland, players can be interviewed and examined but not worked out.

I wish I saw more pass rushers on that list, but if they have to limit it 30 it makes more sense.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

j/c Baylor wide receiver Kendall Wright arrived in Northeast Ohio for a pre-draft visit with the Browns on Tuesday, and he will continue to meet with the team on Wednesday, the Beacon Journal has learned. If the Browns don’t select Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon fourth overall, Wright would be a logical candidate for the team to target with its second pick of the first round (No. 22). The 5-foot-10, 196-pound Wright had 108 catches for 1,663 yards and 14 touchdowns as a senior. He led Baylor in receptions in each of his four collegiate seasons. “He doesn't stand out physically,” analyst Dane Brugler wrote for NFLDraftScout.com. “But he plays extremely fast with terrific ball skills to reel in tough catches and make things happen with the ball in his hands.” link

Assuming Wright is really that good (and not just a product of having a guy like RGIII throwing him the ball), he could be our deep threat. We do the quick stuff to guys like Little who can fight for extra yards, then chuck it downfield to Wright.

Wright bailed Griffin out at Baylor, Green bails out Dalton all the time and it has already been established that Colt can throw it Downfield. Just getting time to do it and receivers to do what they are supposed to do and get separation and catch the ball...(ready for the buzzword) consistently is the key. When Colt throws a 56 yarder in the air that lands right in Littles hands in stride is a bailout...but when Dalton chucks up Cookies to a freak Receiver he is good..got it!

I'd like to see that one...if you're talking about the STL one...watch how Little slows down and waits for the ball to fall into his arms...if it WAS in strides it would have been a TD as he had 5yds on both ths CB and S
funny sidenote: crappy S Dahl bid hard on the underneath fake...he probably couldn't believe that we threw it deep, lol...we had those wide open 1on1s deep multiple times every game...we only threw there because it was desgined to go there (per Shurmur)...another McCoy shortcoming: he reads (half, lol) the field from short to mid range and that's it...god QBs read depp to short...he starts reading short or goes there with his eyes pretty quickly
and btw: I could care less about Dalton...is this about Colt deep accuracy? You'll never see me calling Dalton the 2nd coming...Colt simply doesn't hit anyone in stride even mid range, let alone deep

I believe in being fair. Both Dalton and Colt suck. Dalton is just more willing to take chances because Green is really good at going and getting it but Dalton's decision making and actual skill set is pretty bad.

Dalton I think does have a better arm than Colt. But, I think he got bailed out a lot by Green last year.
I predicted halfway through last year that the Bengals' 2011 season would be our 2007 season. We had some success, but then came crashing down to reality the following year.
I hope I'm right.
*Edit* However, a big difference might be that in 2008, we had no early draft choices, whereas Cinci has 2 first rounders this year. I guess we can only hope Mike Brown goes back to being Mike Brown.

Are you serious? I can show you a million throws by different QB's and Colt could throw the identical pass and you would would find fault in his and say theirs were perfect out of nothing but pure dislike for the guy. I agree it was a nice pass and would like to see it more often. Wallace had to slow down for Roethlesburgers too so he sucks..Just realized this is a prospect thread and I don't want to hijack it but he has done everything that you say he hasn't...You are over the top in your analysis of him. Go watch Rogers Playoff game against the Giants..ask yourself this question...If Pressure and drops can make Rogers look ordinary on a team far more advanced in their system and with much better players around him and have a long pass play of 21 yards...How can I expect Colt under far worse conditions to be consistent or the player you want?

Kalil is visitingUSC offensive tackle Matt Kalil visiting the Cleveland Browns this week, source says Wednesday, April 04, 2012, 10:40 AM CLEVELAND -- USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil is one of the high profile draft prospects visiting the Browns this week, a league source told the Plain Dealer. Most experts expect Kalil to go No. 3 to the Vikings, but Browns general manager Tom Heckert said at the owners meetings last week that the Browns will consider Kalil at No. 4 if he's available. Browns coach Pat Shurmur also said at the meetings that there are similarities between Kalil and Browns five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Thomas. Kalil (6-6, 300) would start at right tackle for the Browns. He'd also most likely draw trade interest from teams seeking a starting left tackle if he's still available at No. 4. The Vikings might also trade out of the No. 3 if they get the right offer. In addition to Kalil, the Browns are hosting Baylor receiver Kendall Wright today and had Nebraska linebacker LaVonte David in on Tuesday.
