These guys have no plate discipline. Bases loaded, two on from walks. The pitcher has not thrown a stike the ENTIRE inning. Every strike was on a swing. Every pitch that a player didn't swing on was a ball. Ball to Santana, then swing on next pitch to ground out end the inning. Seriously. Do they have a manager?
how many times have people complained that Santana doesn't swing enough? Bases loaded, best hitter up, down by a few runs w/ a team that struggles to score runs. If I am the manager, then that hitter has a green light.

Agreed. Choo and Santana are the only two guys on the team where it doesn't feel like an accident when they do something productive. They can swing at whatever they want to as far as i'm concerned.

... and the bullpen comes in and puts the torch to all the effort expended to claw our way back into this one. Way to go guys! 10-4. Wow.

Beltran wouldn't even talk with the Indians according to reports, so unless we told his agent soemthing crazy like "Jose Reyes $$$" we weren't getting his attention.
And, you are saying that a team with a ton of financial constraints as it is needs to go into the FA marketplace where players are already over-priced (due to team-control on early years, but FA is much, much higher per "winshare") and then go and pay 20-30% above and beyond that worth?
For the short term, yes..one or two year deals, even though they would be overpaying, wouldn't kill this team 5 years down the road... To me once you shred your farm system by going after Ubaldo, you're all in for the short term.. There's no point pinching your pennies in free agency, when you gave up your 2 best prospects in the minors.. I would assume Ubaldo will be out of here by the end of next year, so what will they have to show, if they don't go after the postseason the next 2 years.? If you're going to be conservative, you don't give up 2 pitching prospects that could pitch for your team for 6 years..
They were willing to commit 17 million to Kotchman, Sizemore, and Carmona. I think Pena could've been ours for 10-12 million, and Beltran, maybe for 30-32 million over 2 years. Hafner's contract is up this year, so they will save 13 million for next year.. I think they coudl've made it work if they wanted too. Just makes no sense where this front office is taking this team.. They seem to be stuck in nuetral with no plan..

I was told that for the last 3, 4, 5, 6 years or so we have been trading away big name players and acquiring younger talented players to build for a moment like this and that we would be fine... are you telling me it's not working out that way?

By all accounts 2012 was the year we were suppose to be back in contention for division titles, and playoff appearances.. Doesn't seem to be that way.. The front office really laid an egg this past off season.

To parrot off of that, and I am not an Indians fan - just asking a question...
But how do you guys have no OF prospects on the horizon? You haven't been trading them away - did whoever was doing your drafting just fall asleep for the last 5 years or so? You've got Choo - good. Brantley - meh. AAAA players playing left. What happened?

our FO spit the bit for years in the draft until 2008 when Grant took over. particularly at OFers.
Ben Francisco - 5th round in '02 Brad Snyder - 1st rounder in '03 Trevor Crowe - 1st rounder in '05 John Drennan - Suppl. 1st rounder in '05 Stephen Head - 2nd round in '05 Nick Weglarz - 3rd round in '05
let's not forget Franky-G, Jordan Brown, Abner Abreu, and a host of other OFers who were drafted somewhat early (or UDFA internationals) and seemed destined to be a MLB OFer and either disappointed once they got here or never even made it.
they spent our top 4 picks in the 2005 draft on OFers (or guys we moved to OF in our system) and ended up with exactly 0 MLB players.

We drafted horribly prior to 2008 or 09.. A lot of the outfielders we drafted, never materialized to anything. They're career minor league players.. I think we wasted a 1st rd pick on Trevor Crowe.. We did have Franklin Guterierz, but traded him to Seattle when Choo came from Seattle.. I believe we have this young fellow, Levon Washington in the mix, but he's in rookie ball or single a.

The way the schedule set up with days off and what not, we didn't need a 5th starter until mid-april. It's like that every year.

You said we traded Franklin G. to Seattle WHEN Choo came over. Sounds like the same deal to me. Its cool, maybe you meant to type then instead of when.

If we added up all the stupid, mediocre signings the Indians front office has made, would that be enough to have just resigned CC or Cliff? Johnny "Freakin" Damon. I want to fly back to Cleveland and just yell that towards the stadium. "Johnny "Freakin" Damon!!!!!!????? Johnny "Freakin" Damon!!!??" ......."Louuuuuuud Noises!!!!!!!"

They don't want to spend money, because if the sign doesn't work out, then they're locked into that player, and can't sign anyone else. That would subject ourselves to really bad offensive baseball.
It's a really good thing we didn't do that, cause I don't want to see bad offensive baseball.

Every time the Indians make a move like this, I think of an old song ... little pink houses for you and me. Tigers get Prince Fielder, we get Johnny Damon. What are we, chopped liver? Apparently.

I love when we get to play teeball (which is basically what facing KC pitching amounts to).
I also love how all the scouting agencies online LOVE teams like the Royals who have a ton of hitting prospects. Pitching is sort of an important part of the game too.

*No-no alert*
Pittsburgh hitless through 5 at San Francisco. Oh sure, it's only through 5 - but my Pirates offense is bad man, really bad so far in 2012.
(And yes - by posting this after only 5 innings I AM hoping for the jinx.)

I can't even feel good about scoring seven runs in the first inning when we only squeeze two hits out through the next six. We got lucky on a pitcher having a bad inning. Now its back to the normal dead bats.

Agreed. I was just being sardonic. I was hoping we'd sign on in the offseason.
And I don't wish to Alarm you, but the Indians "ace" right now is Derek Lowe, who owns 100% of the Indian's wins

Derek Lowe is a solid professional. He'll more than likely give the Indians 200+ innings and 13-14 wins. Not bad for a back of the rotation starter. And, despite not having any W's yet, Masterson and Jimenez are two good front of the rotation guys - they both have great arms. I like Jeanmar Gomez a lot, too. Tomlin, not so much - I'm not a fan of soft-toss nibblers. Starting pitching won't be why we don't win the AL Central, imo. Hitting and the bullpen (to a lesser degree) are what concern me.
