Used up the last topic, continue here.

I was thinking the other day as I saw that Lamar Odom is basically being put in timeout the rest of the year....

How the hell do you not fit in with that group?

From top to bottom that is a world class organization. You have a passionate owner that always has the back of his players, he takes care of his players like they were his kids.

I've been saying Rick Carlisle is a great coach for years, he proved it last year. He's up there with the best of them in the game right now.

You have good, likable players, Dirk, Jet, Kidd, Marion. Those are all vets that have been around the block, and have pretty much always been regarded as good teammates.

You must be a real piece of crap to not be able to fit in with that group.

the apparent issue was that Dallas does not have a beach

Why isn't Lester Hudson receiving the same praise as Jeremy Lin? 25/8/6, 26/4/3, 23/2/7 (in his last 3 games). Typical BSPN politics.

April NBA bball on a bad team has guys put up numbers all the time and are not to be trusted.

Hudson is not Asian-American who is inciting a ton of interest in Asia.

Hudson is not helping his team go on a streak against good teams and pulling his team from the middle of the lottery into the 8th seed in the East while the teams 2 superstars are injured.

And yes, Hudson is not in NYC with people buying a ton of jerseys in that fair-weather town.

Lin didn't do it against good teams either. That was a criticism because he did it against a soft schedule.

true, but 2 of the first 3 teams in his little spurt were the Jazz and Lakers.

I always felt he turned the ball over too much and he'd get exposed when a book got written by the defensive coaches (which is pretty much what happened - though he stayed better than I thought he would).

but still, to suggest Hudson should get the same treatment given the circumstances is funny to me.

I'd have more of a problem with it if the Cavs were in the playoff hunt, and these numbers continued.

If they were in that 6-7-8 area of the playoff seeding, and he's putting up 25 points a night with good rebound/assists numbers, that should get some run on bspn.

It's not though. It'd be nice if he found a place on this team as a guy who can run the offense when Irving rests on the bench, and can maybe come in to play alongside Irving when you are trying to play faster basketball.

Would also make the Sessions trade look that much better, as you could potentially have his vacancy filled.

There is also the issue that Hudson isn't as good as Lin. Not trashing him, but he's not as good as Lin.

I never thought Lin was that good. IMO they're a toss up. Neither stands out to me. Lin is pretty pathetic on the defensive end, which is always a big negative in my evaluation.

I think that both are pretty decent offensively ..... but both struggle defensively.

If Coach Scott can teach Hudson to play even modest defense, he'll have a role in the Guard rotation. Probably not a starter, but man, what a sub we could have off the bench, and what a guy to have if we need to make a run late. The guy obviously has ice water in his veins.

Because he's the biggest quitter in the game.

As much as I'll always loathe LeBron for his antics at the end of his Cavs run, at least - in theory - he tried to try.

Hudson is not a strong 3pt shooter but he sure loves to shoot em. Play to your strengths and work on the 3 pointer in the offseason.

considering we are going after lottery balls...

I think Hudson should work on his 3pt shooting in game situations if he wants to truly get better

All this talk about going higher...

2011 - 8, 1, 6
2010 - 5, 6, 1
2009 - 3, 6, 4
2008 - 9, 1, 3
2007 - 7, 5, 4

The last 3 years the 6th best odds have gotten a top 3 pick.

Of the last 5 years, the #1 odds have only been in the top three 3 times, never getting the #1 pick...

1st pick winning odds average of last five years: 6.4
2nd pick winning odds average of last five years: 3.8
3rd pick winning odds average of last five years: 3.6

The higher you are, the better chance of getting the #1 pick!

And the last time I checked, we're at #6!!!

Hudson loves nailing the last second shots, that's for sure.

2nd time in 3 games he hits the pressure shot to force overtime.

I hope he sticks around. I'd like to see how how he does in a bench role when the games actually count for something. Getting a guy off the scrap heap that can give big minutes and good production with the second unit would be a great thing to have.

I really like Gee and Hudson in, at least, a backup role. I think that each can be a quality spot starter.

Indiana is a pretty good team. Hudson still got his against them. The thing I like about Hudson is that he seems willing to learn and work on his weaknesses. He's not a great defensive player ..... but he certainly seems to have improved significantly since he arrived.

He's played only 8 games this year, but he's averaging 15 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 3.9 APG, has 10 steals already, and has blocked 3 shots. Oh, and he's hitting 92% from the line. He also seems to be getting better as he goes on as opposed to falling back into bad habits. I'm impressed with the kid.

I also have to admit that I love the rags to riches stories. lol

I agree. The one thing I make sure to do, though, is not get too wrapped up in the Cinderella stories. Hudson is balling, but let's see how he does 9 months from now and in a reduced role. Actually, it kind of reminds me of Gee's situation last year...castoff who got a chance on a bad team for decent minutes against top competition. D-league's great and all, but you really get better by playing against the best.

I almost hate to bring it up, but it seems a bit unsettling to me that we've played better since Kyrie got hurt. I really hope that the adversity wasn't getting in his head (also a big reason I'm not a proponent of tanking for more chances in the lottery). I doubt it's the case but it does give me pause.

I think that Kyrie might have started to wear down a little ....

He hardly played last year, and then only recently started seeing his minutes go up. I think that might have had something to do with it.

Also, we played Kyrie and Sessions together a fair amount of time, which I think helped Kyrie because he had a dependable guy who could also handle the ball as a running mate. Face it, Parker isn't going to run the court with you as a young guy.

Every year guys hit the rookie wall, when they play about 40 games, this year was so screwed up with the scheduling that his body probably has no idea what's going on. The NBA needs to make sure this never happens again. I know people think NBA basketball is just a bunch of guys out there throwing lobs and having fun, but that game can wear the hell out of you. Most of you guys know that though.

I still don't like that he's been hurt a bunch this year. Throw in what happened with him last year and there has to be a little bit of concern.

look at Chris Paul, Derrick Rose. PG is a position where you are always the smallest guy on the court and need to take it right into the teeth of the biggest guys. add in the constant running, and it's the most grueling position in the NBA.

Who knows ........ Irving may have to be carefully managed throughout his career.

That being said though, a sprained shoulder isn't a huge injury in the larger scheme of things. He should heal up and he back to 100% without any issues.

Time to play the Lottery Machine. I played 3 times before Cavs got #1 pick (Anthony Davis) I'd go for it!

Here is the thing you're missing. It's not just about trying to get the first pick, it's about limiting how far you can fall. If we're in the 6 spot, we could fall all the way to 9. If we're in the 4 spot, not only are our chances better for top pick, but the farthest we'll fall is 7. The difference between 6 and 8 in this draft is big.

On a side-note ... did anybody see D.Wade's comments yesterday about how Olympians should be compensated for their time? Well today, after getting ripped for it all day yesterday, he's now back-tracked and said he doesn't "need" to be paid to play for the country.

I'll give Heat players credit for one thing, they're consistently ridiculous. You'd think after saying and doing so much over the past couple years that have been completely stupid and brought forth so much public venom, you'd tone it down a notch and just try to win your multiple championships. Not them.

I could see where NBA stars getting heat no matter what side they're on in regards to the olymics.

If they want to play, they aren't taking their team priorities seriously
If they don't want to play, they aren't doing their part for American pride
If they want to be paid, they're greedy

NBC usually pays/earns big money for the olympic basketball games....so why is it that evil for the guys breaking their backs to want a share? I'm not saying it's the right stance to have when they're already millionaires....but it's the same thing as the NBA.

I don't get why we even send pro's to the olympics anyway. Don't you think a team of college all stars could beat the Spain National team?

Meh....the olympics. I should just stop typing, I don't even watch them.

I think he's an idiot for saying that. I have pretty much always hated the guy so this just fuels the fire.

I can't speak for everyone, but I don't care if a player chooses not to play for the national team in the olympics. Those guys' bodies take a ton of abuse, although they are living lives we could only imagine, they are also constantly on the road and away from their families. If they would rather take the summer to spend time with their family, and prep for the next season. I have no problem with that. You aren't obligated to play for your country.

It's a smack to the face to the other athletes who sacrifice almost everything they have to prepare for that one moment that they get. Sure, if they do well, they enjoy the fruits of a nice sponsorship, but a lot of these people put their lives on hold so that they can go and play for their country.

I mean, you make millions of dollars from team payroll and endorsements, and you don't pay an income tax (the whole athletes that play in FL, TX, etc don't pay income taxes isn't 100% accurate) how much more money do you need?

The hockey players don't complain about it, To them, it's the ultimate honor. Those guys care about trying to win gold. Every country that enters. They get paid a ton to play in the NHL and some of the Euro leagues, but they treat the olympics as a very serious thing.

I don't even think Lebron is dumb enough to utter a statement like that.

Because 1) Nobody is forcing them to go ... you can say people will complain about them not representing their country, but it's pretty far and few between.

And 2) There are about a million other people that would happily go in his place and not want a dime. heck, most Olympic athletes put their entire lives on hold for the year while they train and prepare ... and you don't hear them complaining about getting paid for it. Meanwhile, Wade is already a millionare ... shows up for a few weeks to train in the summer, and thinks he should get paid for it. If it's that back-breaking, then send someone else who's happy to go for free ... there's no shortage.

And I agree we should send some college students. They'd be much more appreciative of it, and they'd have a bit of that underdog feel. Right now, we're pretty much the Soviet Hockey team of the 70's.

No guarantees that team wins, I mean yeah maybe they play harder, but Spain took that 2008 US team to the wire, and I think we played pretty hard in that game. That Spanish team could take a punch and give you one right back.
