FWIW.....I really don´t hope Randy is trying to pull an Al Davis...hope it´s all smokescreen NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports Browns management is pushing to take a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick. The rookie had better be ready for a lot of third-and-longs if Cleveland can't upgrade from Jamal Lewis in the second or third round. rotoworld link: http://www.rotoworld.com/Content/home_NFL.aspx

This sounds FAMILIAR doesn't it?????I won't be shocked to see us take Quinn. I also won't be happy. I will back any QB in orange and brown, and right now that's Charlie Frye. Any QB in orange and brown. If we do take a QB they need to sit, for at least part of one season. I would rather see the whole season, but we know that won't happen. Not a knock on Quinn whatsoever. We have so many other needs, and we just drafted a QB. Will Charlie be happy about being a backup after being told he was the man? NO, of course not. PLayers notice that kind of stuff. Flipp floppin over which players you like and you don't. I remember I was like Charlie WHO??? When everyone was pushing to draft him, and I am a MAC man (Toledo). They wanted that BG QB too. If this is the case and the homers really did push the management into taking Charlie, then we are all doomed. YOu don't take a QB day one and then draft another Day one QB the (basically, his first season as a starter) next year. It will make Phil look frivilous IMO.

What I absolutely do not like about this news is that either way it has the potential to split the top of our Org.....when the owner dictates the pick, the GM won´t be happy even if he loves the pick
Really hope it´s just a smokescreen....STFU Lerner, let Phil do the job

No, Adam Shefftler, from NFL Network said Lerner is pushing for the Browns to draft a QB. Sad thing is that guy has been pretty accurate and Junior is a marketing guy. Bad combo.
Whether you agree w/the Browns drafting a QB or not, I don't think it's good for the owner to be calling the shots. Let Savage do his job.

I am going to say a prayer for this not to be true. Please God, let this not be true. I don't know if I have the strength for another regimine change. Please lord, tell Randy and co. to STFU. Tell him in his dreams that talent evaluation is NOT in his resume and that he has no business meddling just because he is excited.

If Oakland somehow get Rodgers and loses Moss in a Green Bay trade, then Russell is gonna be a Brown. If they don't and take Russell, then we'll get Quinn unless Detroit trades down with someone who wants Quinn (houston?minny?) - in which case we'd get Adrian Peterson or Joe Thomas. We will get a quality pick by staying put this year, and hopefully some instant offense, just add coaching.

I don't think Randy needs players for marketing purposes. We sell out every game and jersey sales aren't bad either.
I don't think Randy is the one making the final decision on draft picks at all. On that note, we better not take Quinn, who IMHO is highly overrated. Crennel and Savage, well at least Crennel, have to win now or it may cost them their jobs. Drafting a QB for the long term would not provide them job security especially if the QB were to sit a year. They can push all they want...
the final decision rests in Savage's hands...
the only way I see us picking a QB is if JaMarcus Russel is sitting there at number 3

I agree that it is in Savage's hand.
However, if we take Russell I may end up throwing my tv out the window. I pray that Oakland takes him at #1.

yeah...
he could be great he could be horrid..
he is just too raw right now to know..
but with all the things I have read this offseason it seems Savage has a severe man crush on Russel

Like Vers, I remember that the comment was from Lerner.
Can you guys understand the concept of smokescreen, No one is going to tip their hand, and there is misinformation out there.

The Browns will at one point in time say something about the player that he will pick. But they will also discuss others.
Last year we had the comment about Ngata and Wembly was mentioned in passing.

Well, that´s why with the last 2 pre-draft patterns in mind our pick should be Thomas...of the top players of need, he´s the least talked about by Savage..."word" has leaked out that he promised Russell to pick him at 3...forget it he´s not our target, he said the same about Ngata last year.....I also read him pimping Peterson and now Quinn....looks like CJ, Thomas 1,2 on our board

At this time of year I'm going to take this "report" with a grain of salt -- partially because I don't want it to be true, but mostly because you can't believe a thing you hear in the weeks leading up to the draft because it's normally all posturing.
Quinn wouldn't be the worst pick in the world if Joe Thomas was already gone, but I'll be crossing my fingers that QBs go 1-2 this year.

jc here´s the link to Schefter article http://nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/10060470" Some within the Browns organization do not want the teams to hold the No. 3 pick and not come away with a potential franchise quarterback." .... "As one general manager with a top-10 pick emailed Wednesday: "Cleveland's owner told (the Browns) to draft a QB. … The Lions want it known that they have the pick for Quinn. Minnesota and Houston will have to react. All this Quinn dropping talk is from people who have no clue about the draft." ----- Hmmm, guess that email GM is Millen, lol? Maybe he just wants us to bite and has just received calls from lower and they don´t want to drop to 7 or 8....he wants an extra 2nd rounder and still draft Thomas.... I´ll puke if we get hosed by Millen again ...losing picks just to draft a QB and reading reports after the draft how Savage is POed cause Lerner made the call is by far my worst case sceanrio....if we give up a 1st day pick to move up 1 spot again, I´ll just be p!ssed

if this is true and Randy is pressuring us to go away from what the personnel guy is wanting, I'll be P.O.'d big time.
Browns is the Browns

Exactly.....It`s like any buisness.....The owner is top of the chain...
It simply says he`s pushing.....not demanding...or firing anyone........
And who even believes all this ....
I honestly think it`s okay for lerner to have an opinion....

Randy is making the draft decisions now? What a joke. I enjoy all this predraft give and take too much to give any creedence to this kind of manure. Phil has a plan and all he needs from Randy Lerner is his checkbook.

That's why I take what he says with a grain of salt. What's funny, is some of the stuff he reports as "breaking", is sometimes discussed on the boards a few days in advance.

I love how people are all doom and gloom if we actually take a QB with our top pick......Like the world will come to an end if we don't take Joe Thomas or Adrian Peterson.....
Whether you guys want to admit it or not....QB is a BIG problem we have. OLine is a big problem too....But as far as the Oline is concerned OG is a much bigger need than OT....Joe Thomas would be a great pick...I would not be very excited about Peterson...but if he can stay healthy that can be a great pick.......but guess what....so would Brady Quinn. We can pick up a Sears, Grubbs, or Blalock in round 2 and make huge strides with our Oline. Possibly bigger strides than taking Thomas as Guards can usually develop a little quicker as they are not on an island....
I say Savage stays pat...if someone jumps ahead of us...then he takes whoever is left...I think Savage will be happy to take any one of those guys and he won't give up draft picks to do it....He will call Detroits bluff and not panic if Detroit actually comes through on it...
And in the end...it will probably be a good pick.....
I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...

Lerner hires guys to do this, so I hope he lets the scouts and Phil do what they're paid to do.
Lerner also attended Quinn's pro day, which raises some eye brows. I have never heard of him attending pro days or scouting up until that.

On the other hand, if it were so cut and dry that if the owner shows up at a workout then it's a near lock that the team would take that player, he never would have shown up there to give away the teams intentions. Fans and media read way too much into these things. If I were the owner I'd want to see a bunch of those workouts too. But it would have nothing to do with who we'd pick. I'd just be taking advantage of being an owner by attending events and getting a first hand view of stuff the rest of you chumps will never get the chance to see.

Yeah it may be all smoke and mirrors, but I got a little anxious when I heard on NFL Network that Randy Lerner was in South Bend watching Quinn. And I've seen more than once a statement about how much he likes him. Which may not mean a thing. But it may. Who the hell knows until April 28th. Damn it, it's still over a month away.
