Cleveland Browns player Josh Cribbs cited for allegedly driving 103 in a 60 mph zone on I-71

CLEVELAND - A Cleveland Browns player was busted for allegedly driving more than 100 mph on a northeast Ohio highway over the weekend.

Cleveland Municipal Court records show Josh Cribbs was driving 103 in a 60 mph zone on Interstate 71 near the Fulton Road exit at 8:45 p.m. Friday.

Cribbs admitted to the offense on the popular social media platform Twitter:

"Yes I was pulled over for speeding, going to fast luckily the police were on the job, wasn't going that fast the entire time obviously but wrong is wrong, gotta face the music just like anyone else:(”

He continued to tweet with a positive tone about the incident.

“Much Respect to the police officers who pulled me over! I will lead better on the road now as well as on & off the field!!!" he wrote.

Cribbs is due in court Friday, May 4.

That's not even "really fast" in my book. With today's quiet cars out on the open road, you could easily find yourself around 80-85 without noticing. And 100 isn't that far away from there.

Heck, I've been near 100 on my bike.

I would say 120 and up is "really fast".

Over the summer last year I was driving to Ohio on the turnpike and I might have been going 85-90'ish (their speed limit is 75 and it was wide open). A sports car flew by me so fast I didn't have time to notice the make and model. He/she had to have been going 150+. It was like passing a car going 50 in a 25 zone.

As for Cribbs......I knew he'd be funny and apologetic at the same time. Props to him once again.

I don't know. I think 100 is a lot more than 85 ... JMO.

And the feel in a car of doing one or the other is noticeable.

And extremely dangerous.

Well, it also depends on the car too. My 1988 Chevy Spectrum, a year before it became a Geo, would have been swerving and shaking at 90. But my Infiniti FX35 drives fine at 85-95 (not that I'm there often).

I actually don't like to speed at all. I'm probably the slowest driver among my family and friends. Heck, my wife drives like the car is on fire around Chicago.

He did something wrong, admitted and owned up to it, and praised the cop who pulled him over.

What's wrong with him? Hasn't he read "The Professional Athlete's Guide to Arrests"?

It may feel the same but on a highway, with signs, trees, other cars, barriers flying by, if you are used to going 75-80 and find yourself going 105, you can just TELL that you are going a lot faster than normal, regardless of how the car is performing.

Probably figured proving the radar gun was calibrated correctly was going to be tough to prove in court when the judge heard it was a Civic.

I got pulled over doing 103 in an 80 zone in Texas a few years back.

In a jaguar. The thing is smooth as silk at that speed. No one around for miles. Except for that copper hiding behind a boulder.

Felt like I was going 70.

I'm sure a Bentley is even moreso like that.

Fastest ever was 163 Sunday morning the first weekend that Route 8 opened in Akron back in 1991. Pretty dumb but I did record it on a betamax video camera.

Finely tuned luxury auto, or a 1986 Chrysler LeBaron turbo - you know when you're going too fast.

146 mph in a Chrysler with a digital dash is great. Smooth. Until you pass your dad, out walking on a country road, while you're in his one day old car - the same car he told you an hour before "okay, take it, but don't go over 55 with it".

Yes, I knew I was going too fast.

Well Arch,
I think everyone, And I mean everyone has had a time or two were they went "TOO FAST". I know back with my 91 5.0 mustang, that was everytime I hit the highway!. Yea, I'm older now and know better but I would not type a lie and say that if I got another sports car, I might not "stretch her out a bit".

Plus - I'm amazed at some of the poster on this board. If anyone has ever driven in the south or in the western states, please, they go 80 -85 like that is the posted speed limit!!

I got a ticket for going 52 in a 35 zone when I was 17 and the judge pulled my license for 90 days. I have never had a moving or parking violation since....that is getting close to 50 years ago.

I got pulled over when I was 17 driving through Medina square at 1am with my lights out and a keg in the backseat. No ticket.

About 5 years ago I got pulled over for running a stop sign. It was 11:30pm, I got the car down to 1 MPH before turning and there was NOBODY on the roads at the time. $120 ticket + $40 class to keep it off my record.

I guess things even out over a long enough timeline.

Brandon Jacobs is alleged to have been involved in a strange situation that alleges that he was one of several drivers of expensive sports that received a police escort going more than 100 mile per hour.

According to reports, on March 30, 2012, two state troopers drove in front of and behind a group of Porsches, Lamborghinis, Ferraris and other high-end sports cars. The cars were going well over the speed limit and their license plates were obscured by tape.

A police spokesperson said that the incident is under investigation.

Jacobs has long been a car enthusiast. Brandon Jacobs said this to a reporter last year when asked about his lack of playing time

"I've got nothing positive to say," Jacobs said. "The most positive thing: I got family at home and I got a fast-ass car being delivered on Tuesday. That's it."

My wife got stung by a bee at Palo Duro Canyon while her parents were visiting us. She's allergic to bees, wasps, etc. They had their Jaguar and I told him, just put the hazards on and fly. No cops anywhere back there in the country, but he had it past the peg which read 140. Good thing the roads were well kept and that the car weighed in at 6500 pounds.

We got to the nearest emergency medical station in city of Canyon from the canyon in less than 10 minutes on Tx-217. It's about 15 miles from town.

Going 103 in one of the cars Cribbs has most likely feels like 55-70. I'm following him on instagram and I've seen what he's got.

I got pulled over for going 105 in a 70 when I was 18 out here in California. Got lucky and was only written up for 89.

I want to say that speeding in Cali is different than speeding in Ohio. Sometimes out here, if you aren't going 75 you are in the way and a hazard to other drivers.

Cribbs just doesn't know there's a right way to drive fast. Maybe he should work with Jacobs in the off season. First, get the cops to clear your lane...

Police escort for Brandon Jacobs and others gets cops suspended
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 23, 2012, 8:54 PM EDT

A high-speed police escort for dozens of luxury sports cars, one of which was reportedly driven by Brandon Jacobs, has resulted in two New Jersey state troopers being suspended without pay.

An investigation began after witnesses complained that two State Police cars escorted Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Porsches driving over 100 miles an hour on March 30. Over the weekend the Newark Star-Ledger reported that Jacobs was one of the drivers of those cars, and today the New Jersey Attorney General announced that the two cops who escorted the cars were suspended.

“We will not tolerate any conduct by a member of the State Police that puts the public in jeopardy, as this unauthorized caravan had the potential to do,” New Jersey Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa said. “We are thoroughly investigating this incident, and those responsible will face serious discipline.”

Jacobs’ agent, Justin Schulman, told the Star-Ledger, “Brandon did go to [Atlantic City] that day but wasn’t aware of the details of the police escort.” Jacobs, who played his entire career in New Jersey with the Giants before signing with the 49ers this offseason, has a large collection of sports cars and has often discussed his love of driving fast cars.

The difference from 85 to 100 isn't THAT big.... I accidentally find myself doing 90+ all the time. It's easy to do it and not really notice, especially if there isn't a ton of traffic around you.

Dog I don't think the point was whether people speed or don't speed or should speed, the point was, don't go 100 mph and then try to convince me you didn't know you were going too fast regardless of what kind of car you were driving.

I will not say that doing that far north of 60, you know your going too fast, but go drive a 7 series, or a Audi a6 or a8, you really do not feel your speed until you look down at the speedo! But again, Josh admitted mistake, and moved on.

And since you are in the south now, go out on 85 or 95 and have that "too fast" conversation!!..LOL...

Not sure what you are saying... I have driven 85, 95 and roads like them for 30 years... and not always at the speed limit.. I know how easy it is to creep from 60... to 65... to 70... to 75 but there is always a point at which I think.. wow, I'm going pretty fast. and I don't have to look at the speedometer to know that.
