I get the feeling he might end up starting or getting significant playing time. Orien Harris was a good pickup for us

j/c: If there is one truth to come from this year's FA class, it is how important it is to draft well. The money guys like R. Smith are getting is insane. This guy has hardly made any noise in the NFL and he is going to make millions.

It is.
If we drafted him, we would have to pay him what he is getting now if we wanted to keep him.
I understand we would have the option of letting him walk in favor of a newer player, but building a team in the NFL takes a balance of drafting and signing free agents.
Another point in all oif this is I don't think we are up against the cap, so what's the beef? These are the going rates being paid, and teams for the most part have the cash to pay, so I don't see a problem.

I agree, but at the same time it does worry me about getting back into cap hell. It's like using a credit card, if you're not responsible, the bill comes due and you can't pay it.
Hopefully we're gonna be able to pay it for years to come. Aside from Steinbach, there really was nothing bank busting so I don't see the problem. I think we'll have enough space to be active in FA next year too.

We were 30 mil under this cap. The guy is a proven player. I don't see a problem.
It doesn't mean you can't get into a cap situation, but you can get into one of those with drafted players too....Cincy did with Steinbach. They drafted him and now we get him for the prime years of his career.

Look around Vers, 4mil SB is relatively cheap for the best DT of the FA class....yeah, bad class for DTs but imho well worth the price...to be honest I expected much more $$.....this guy started 7 straight seasons....there were enough players with less talent and experience at other positions who got much more (ie Northcutt, Pashos, Curtis).....Vonnie Holliday (who is a little better than Robaire) got 20mil for 4 years and 10 (!!) mil SB...and he re-signed BEFORE free agency
I tell you, Robaire was relatively cheap

I was just checking some stuff out about him. I'm wondering...he was cut from Houston when they were running a 3-4.
If he wasn't good enough for their 3-4, why would he be good enough for ours?

He was out at the end of 2005 (not sure if he was cut or let go or what) but the Texans were switching over to the 4-3 at that time... maybe they felt that he wasn't a good fit for the 4-3 which is why they let him go... he left at a time that the Texans were done with the 3-4 not during their 3-4.
