I have officially just accepted an offer for graduate school from UM. University of Montana that is . As part of the Graduate Teaching Assistantship, I get full tuition paid plus $9,000. There is still a very slight chance that may change however at this point, it would only be from my end. However, it looks like I'll be spending the next three years of my life in Missoula, Montana.

How many cases of beer does $9000 buy in Montana? They do sell beer in Montana don't they?

Yeah, the biggest problem now is, how the hell to move there. I'm thinking of just buying a cap to my truck loading it up with some stuff, and just re-purchasing the rest when I get there. One thing is for sure though, I'm bringing all of my ski stuff with me

Good for you man! A very scenic part of the country. The towm almost sits in a crater ringed by mtns.....much different than what you are accustomed to seeing. My wife was born in Idaho, so I have been out that way many times and through your town a couple. Might as well stock up on country music because that is what you are going to hear and end up likeing. Sooner or later you are going to be introduced to Rocky Mtn. oysters. The though isn't very appealing, but don't resist. They actually aren't bad at all, and even if it is a one time thing, you have to cowboy up once in a while. Speaking of cowboys....you are going to see a few of those too .....good people, so adding a cowboy hat to the wardrobe wouldn't hurt a thing. I wish you well!

You may still want to buy a cap for the bed...i would anyway, but buying stuff doesn't make sense.
Rent a small U-haul pull behind, plan on about 3 days travel and pull your belongings. A one way rental is going to to be cheaper then buying stuff...they even rent hitches....but I would just buy one if you don't have one...a truck needs a hitch.

Congrats, Con! I am going to agree with Peen here...get a UHaul trailer and tow it behind your truck or tow your truck with the UHaul.

You think I would actually go to that school up north?
It's amazing how many people seem to have connections to the city. Even my roomie has a cousin that is graduating from that school this semester. Funny thing I read about the town: it ruins people's careers. They go to school there and then can't leave so they just get jobs in the area The scenery and mountains is part of what drew me in.
Oh and peen, no thanks, I'll just save those for you. I'd much rather have real oysters

Congrats on going up to "God's country". It is beautiful up in Montana. Spent a couple of years up there myself. You'll love Missoula, except there are mountains on both side of you, so the sun comes up a little later, and goes down a little earlier. To let ya know, for it to be considered a town in Montana, you just need a house, a post office and a bar. BTW, gambling is legal up there, but there is not much of it. Enjoy it!!

I would rather have a few dzn. "real" oysters too, but when in cowboy land, do as cowboys do.....you will sooner or later....really, the thought of rooster testicles is much worse then the taste......people wouldn't eat them if they tasted bad, now would they? They have to have something going for them to continue to be a menu item don't you think?

I'm leaning more towards the renting of the UHaul and towing my truck since that is 2k miles that don't go onto my engine, not to mention the extra stress on the engine if I had to pull that trailer during that trip. I just need to price things out and see what the best case scenario is going to be. I've also looked into putting the truck on one of those trucks but that is just going to cost too much money to justify it.

Congrats man, been there once, had a buddy transfer from App. State to UM. As others have said, beautifull country, be carefull it doesn't suck you in as you said, it happens pretty easily. They also have a pretty damn good football team in the I-AA division. Pretty much a lock to make the 16 team playoff every year. Go to the games, a GREAT atmosphere. Just remember to remind everyone that App. State is the BACK TO BACK champs Trust me, up there they will know what you are talking about.
Born and breed with OSU, App. State alumni, but bleed orange and brown.
Go ARMY......Beat Navy!!!!!!

Oh yeah, I've honestly been skiing longer than I've been walking, lol. As soon as I was able to stand up, my parents took me to the slopes to start learning to ski. So I'm probably one of the few people who could say they have been skiing longer than they have been walking, lol. I was also a certified instructor at Boston Mills before I moved to Florida. The local resort inside of Missoula has 2,600 vertical feet of skiing so I'm pretty excited about that

I almost forgot to say it. I will be going for a masters degree in lighting design. I already have a very strong theatrical and concert lighting background but this will allow me to dive deeper into the big money parts of the business such as TV/Film and architectural lighting design and technology. Also, it opens the door to teaching at college which is what I really want to start doing in about 5-10 years. In this profession, you cannot even think about teaching without a masters.
