Get McNutt AND Toon in the 4th...

Well apparently they felt a good RT was more important than a WR (which I agree with).

And apparently at 67, they didn't like the receiver prospects on the board and didn't want to reach for someone. And at 87, they didn't want to reach for a WR, and so they took the best player on their board at a position that needs to be filled.......

No use selecting a receiver just to select a receiver, even though you don't feel right about where you're selecting the guy you're picking......

Had Randle been there at 67, I think we would have picked him. Had Sanu been there at 87, I would have wanted us to pick him. But anyone at 87 who plays receiver, I really don't know them. Only that guy from Western Michigan, who I don't think is a third rounder

May be we'll find someone in the 4th round we feel good about. Otherwise the 6th or 7th/UFA. But I can't imagine that they aren't looking toward upgrading our WRs. You just gotta feel good about it when you do it.

I'm happy with this draft so far. Trent Richardson, awesome pick; Brandon Weeden, gotta have confidence in the FO on this one, obviously they felt he's a significant upgrade over McCoy; and Shwartz, don't know the guy but they addressed the RT issue, which was so important. So we got a superstar RB, a starting RT which will help our passing/rushing game, a QB with a very good arm whom they obviously feel is ready to go, and they got some DT from Cincy whom I never heard of but they must feel good about.

I'm gonna go to bed happy

Because we addressed three other major offensive needs? Or were you expecting us to draft a world beater WR in the 3rd round? Since 1999, we've drafted 7 WRs in the second round ... 3 of which are still on the team. It's not like a 3rd rounder is going to be an instant #1 for us. Heck ... with proper right-side line protection to go with the left ... a Quarterback with an NFL quality arm ... and a runningback that will keep defenses honest ... maybe those three second rounders will start actually looking like second round picks.

You're not winning in todays league without a legit passing threat. Weeden will be throwing to the same scrubs Colt was throwing to last year. Teams are going to stack the box and kill Trent.

That seems to be their favorite line, but I 'm buying it.

It came down to Blackmon or Richardson ... I couldn't see a scenario where we could have both positions with RB first and any WR we might draft later is not going to be day 1 starters or even a possible upgrade.

They made that Bed now they have to sleep in it.

Like I said ... we've already drafted three SECOND ROUND receivers in the last three years, and you're pissed because we didn't draft a fourth?

Duh! what kinda answer that?

Hey Tom you take one because that's what it takes to have a passing game.

But if there isn't one worth your pick, are you still going to take a guy? Obviously he liked Hughes more than the available receivers

HEY, no masked profanity!

OK, seriously, here are some guys left, in random order, Juron Criner, Marvin Jones, Nick Toon, Chris Givens, Joe Adams, Rishard Matthews, Tommy Streeter, Junior Hemingway, Jarius Wright, Marquis Maze, Devon Wylie, Greg Childs, Lance Lewis, Marvin McNutt, Jordan White, Chris Owusu, Dwight Jones, Jermaine Kearse, Travis Benjamin, Jarret Boykin, Jeff Fuller, B.J. Cunningham . . .

And not to mention all the scrubs nobody's ever heard of that Heckert might reach for . . .

Or, they have Hughes rated really high on their board.

Some of the arguments against Heckert recently have been pretty bad.

Okay lets break them down individually:

Greg Little - Has potential
MoMass - Has never done anything with any QB
Cribbs - He is what he is at this point
Carlton Mitchell - More concerned with twitter than catching passes
Jordan Norwood - Incredibly small and doesn't have a lot of speed

Three?

Two still with the team and one that's worth a hoot.
None are go to WR's

You get/find them in the first round.

I'm sick and tiered of GM's here thinking they can get a silk purse out of a sows ear with l;ater round WR's.

The only 1st round WR we could have gotten was Blackmon, and that would of meant not getting Richardson...

No thanks...

Givens, I don't know. Haven't seen him play.

Don't know much about the guy. I thought he was the guy who recently went to Clemson. But according to NFL.com, this guy's been in the NFL for awhile.

Either way, I believe he put up better numbers last year than any of our WRs. lol.

We get one in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Hecket was targeting WR at pick 22 and in the 3rd round. The WR's he was targeting got selected before the picks so plan B. I see them picking up someone in day 3 or the draft and FA. Maybe they will find a diamond in the rough, maybe not. This may be an opportunity for someone already on the roster to step up.

Wayit Wait wait wait wait??

It works for every! Other! Position! but when it comes to WR

We have to wait, for like 13 years . It's about time they just got a WR, when were FINALLY after ( since 2008) adressing the offense.
Or ! are they afraid to pay somebody to Catch the ball?

Or ! is it even with Childress, on board, they ( aw shucks, we won't ever use 3 wideouts cause we'd have to take our 3rd tight end off the field.)

Yippeee! Go Browns

Signed New England, Philadelphia (when they were good), Baltimore, etc.

You know who takes first round receivers? The Lions.

And what'd those WR's do before Stafford got there?

Charles Rogers?
Mike Williams?

Wide receivers in the NFL taken in rounds 4-7:

Denarius Moore
Mike Williams (Tampa Bay)
Jacoby Ford
Riley Cooper
Antonio Brown
Brian Hartline
Austin Collie
Johnny Knox
Julian Edelman
Josh Morgan
Pierre Garcon
Steve Breaston
Marques Coltston
Jerricho Cotchery
Brandon Lloyd

All are solid to pretty good players.

The draft is not over. We will have to find a hidden gem, but it's not impossible. There are also quite a few undrafted free agent wide receivers (Welker, Cruz, and Austin off the top of my head) that have been successful.

Go put that on a billboard in Berea.

Hey guess what?

Almost anyone on the team who can be called a WR or a TE is a free agent in 2013.

So there is that.

God knows that you can't get value out of late round receivers.

I mean ... look at 3rd round pick Wallace and 6th round pick Brown for the Steelers. man, they suck.

Look at Wes Welker. Man, he sucks. No UDFA can ever make it in the NFL.

That Cruz kid in New York ..... he'll never be anything.

How about that lousy Lance Moore in New Orleans ....... he must suck since he was an UDFA.

Steve Smith in Carolina ..... no late 3rd rounder could ever do anything.

Nate Washington in Tennessee ... no chance he'll ever he any good ......

Steve Johnson in Buffalo ..... again, another sucky 7th rounder .....

Man, I can't believe how horrible these guys are. If only teams could find value at WR late in the draft. Too bad that's impossible. (Except for Moore, these guys are 7 of the top 20 receivers in the NFL last year)

Yep .... there's no chance of finding a quality WR later in the draft .......

I hope you're right!

Now I'm gonna have to peruse through the 2nd days picks and see who was taken and who may still be on the board.

You can still find a player or two.

My feeling is the draft just didn't pan out to take a receiver at this point.

I honestly think Randle was our target early in the round. Once he was taken a few picks before us, it prompted the trade down, with the new target Sanu. Once he was selected we just went with the best player on the board and selected Hughes.

I don't know how boards are set up, or should I say how ours is set, but at any rate, in looking around Hughes isn't chopped liver. He has been moving up many boards from what I can see. Once we get past Rubin and Taylor, the talent at DT does take a hit...a few guys show some promise but it would be better to have something better. My thinking is having 3 starters at DT, with one rotating out a series at a time should keep us pretty fresh along the line, allowing 100% effort on every snap.....or should I say allows 100% effort with 100% results?

If he was the best on the board, it was the move to make.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

Tommy Streeter Wr
Marvin Jones Wr California
Joe Adams Wr Arkansas, had good games against Ohio State
Nick Toon WR,
Chris Givens WR
Marvin McNutt WR in no order in particular.

( I don't want them to have any part of Juron Criner, yet.) I view him as a combine, workout guy, who came out of nowhere, I'm no fan of that type of player

You're kidding right? The previous year when he was healthy he had 80+ receptions for 1200 yards and 11 TD's. How is that appearing out of nowhere?

They're effing stupid. Which, when you think about it, doesn't make us look smart because we stood by these mental midgets!

It really isn't that damned hard!

I would bet that a consensus of votes on this board for each pick could produce a better result. Even if they just tuned into the draft coverage and listened to who the analysts were talking about and choosing one of them, they'd do better.

How many wins in 2013? My guess is 2. Two wins, 14 losses, no ties. I think we actually win two games because you simply can't go into the week game-planning for stupid. Opponents will be putting 8 and 9 in the box and blitzing on EVERY passing situation.

Is that like having Weeden as the #13 player on the board? John Hughes as the BEST PLAYER ON THE BOARD!! You can't be serious! Just admit it. The front office has no clue what they're doing! None! Were they smoking pot? Sniffing glue? Smoking crack! That's the only REASONABLE explanation. They were effing high and thought it would be funny to pop it on the Browns fandom in this manner! There is no conceivable reason for this disaster! None!

Tell me that Brandon Weeden was ranked higher than anyone taken after him in the first round? Better than most of the second round? Better than more than half of the 3rd round? These SOBs must have been high! Drug testing should be taking place among the entire front office and the scouts!
