OVERVIEW
There will be discussions about moving Miller outside to tackle from guard: This debate revolves around Miller's size, much like last year's first round-pick at OT, Nate Solder. Given Miller's solid athletic ability and size, a move to the outside seems imminent. Miller would need to learn the position after spending the past two years inside, but he could transition well with his talent and versatility. Miller could go as early as the late first round, but most likely will settle in nicely in the second round.

ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS Miller did everything well on the front line for Colorado as he is able to come off the ball quickly and bend well despite his immense height. In the parts of three years he spent at tackle, he sustained on his blocks well and often finishes through the play.

WEAKNESSES Some will consider Miller a tweener and wonder if there is a hidden aspect to his ability that made him play inside despite prototypical tackle size. He is a bit of a slow mover and will take some time to develop if moved outside to tackle.

From what I've read he hasn't really played tackle... but many projected him to tackle just because his size...

There is absolutely no complaints at all from what positions we are drafting. It actually seems like they know what is actually wrong with the team!

So Heckert grabbed someone in the 5th round with a 1st or 2nd round grade.

Does that make everyone happy now who thinks he's reached early for all the other picks?

He only played OG for his last two years.

No. That Hughes pick is still rubbish.

I'm pretty pleased with our last 2 picks. Looks like we got some good players at a good value.

It's a trend, Mack, Lavao, Pinkston, and now Miller.

It beats wasting a 1st on them.

Good pick

Can we finally put to death the Myth that this team has no talent, and admit the coach has to find out how to use the talent.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

You're using OLine to make your case for talent?

The problem is this team didn't have any playmakers.

We've added a stud in Trent Richardson, a legit NFL QB, and a speedster that can stretch the field at Wide Receiver.

It's time we look like an NFL offense.

But let's not use OLine to make that point

2012 NFL Draft: Transcript from conference call with Colorado OL Ryan Miller
By Nate Ulrich Published: April 28, 2012

Colorado offensive lineman Ryan Miller, whom the Browns drafted in the fifth round (No. 160), spoke to reporters this afternoon during a conference call. Here is a transcript:

(On being a taller guard and how that comes into play)- “I think I’ve got a lot more power in the legs, then I can bend and really extend that leverage out on guys on the inside. With that height I also bring long arms.”

(On if the Browns told him where he would play)- “They took me as an o-lineman. I’ll play guard or tackle. One of my better suits is that I’m versatile.”

(On injuries in college and how his health is now)- “Early on sophomore year I got hit with a few injuries, but you learn from them. You learn not everything is going to go smooth and you adapt. That’s what happened and I’ve been injury free for a while and it’s been great. Now I just got some new body jewelry, if you will.”

(On if he has pictured himself in the NFL)- “I have. I know the speed of the game is much, much faster than college but there is two ways to play football, run the ball and pass the ball. Each team has similarities whether it be NFL, college, high school - power is power and zone is zone and deep ball is the deep ball.”

(On playing one of his best games against Ndamukong Suh and when he realized he could play in the NFL)- “The game against Suh was one of my better games. I figured early on I would be in the NFL. Actually my junior year in high school, it was my high school coach who really kind of laid the path down and gave me the tools and unlocked it to really work.”

(On how he plays football)- “I really try to play aggressive. I try to play nasty, I try to play vicious and I try to play until the whistle blows. I might not be the most technically sound, but I’ll give you my all and I’ll bleed, bight, crawl and scratch to get the job done.”

(On where his nasty streak comes from)- “I think it came from high school when we ran the ball every play. It’s just kind of a country boy mentality of nothing in life is easy and you get what you work for and it’s always just kind of been do or die for me and really most days of my life.”

(On if he was a basketball player)- “Basketball? I played in middle school. I didn’t really touch much basketball. I wrestled in high school and that is where some of the nastiness came from, being matched up one-on-one against a guy knowing that it was my will against his.”

Nice interview... I have to admit for the most part I've loved every interview with our draft picks so far... doesn't mean that they can play, but we seem to have gotten some players with good head's on their shoulders and guys that want to work.

Quick snapshot from Draft Scout.

http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=70985&draftyear=2012&genpos=OG
Draft Scout Snapshot: 2010: Honorable mention All-Big 12 (Associated Press, Big 12 Coaches). Graded out to 80 percent or higher in 11 of 12 games last season and over 90 percent five times, with all five of those instances coming in the last six games of the season … Ranked second behind All-American Nate Solder with 83 finish or knockdown blocks and six touchdown blocks … Allowed just two sacks and had just two penalties. 2009: Earned honorable mention All-Big 12 Conference honors from the league coaches after starting all 12 games, seven at right guard where he opened the season, and five at right tackle when the line was shuffled for assorted reasons. Graded out to 83.8 percent on the season, with 66 finishing/knockdown and five touchdown blocks. 2008: Granted a medical hardship after missing bulk of season due to injury. Started the first four games at right offensive tackle but was lost for the season when he went down with a broken fibula on the second play of the second half against Florida State in Jacksonville. Racked up 30.5 knockdown blocks in just 258 snaps from scrimmage, did not allow a quarterback sack and allowed just three pressures. Named most improved offensive lineman in spring ball. 2007: Started second half of season at right tackle. Personal: Maternal grandfather, David Peterson, was an end on Colorado’s 1960 freshman team. Mentored younger students as a junior and senior in a special program at his high school, Columbine, the scene of a horrific school shooting in April 1999.

Pinkston was only selected 10 picks earlier.

I think that this selection officially puts our two starting guards from last year on notice.

Based on his interview he doesn't sound like he is lacking in any confidence.

Competition is never a bad thing.

I like the versatility and that he could play OT if we needed him to.

No, not yet. These guys they are adding in this draft haven't even signed their contracts so until they prove otherwise, the lack of talent isn't a myth,

Young big talent for the Oline ...I love it. This is how teams build strong Olines. they pick them up late and develop them. One of these guys could steal a starting job.

I know many are bashing this draft, but IMO, the front office is filling needs and I expect that many of these guys are better than we think.

I find it funny how the FO is being bashed by internet message board junkies. Their have been scouts and coaches looking at a lot of film, I trust them.

I also feel that we are going to grab a veteran WR after the draft as some will come available.

I have read that the front office believes that the receivers will be much better with a different QB.

I think that will be the case. I like McCoy, but he is what he is. I tried to give him as much slack as possible, and still believe he could be better this year than last. But, a guy like Weeden with a big arm and accuracy, plus a Trent Richardson behind him, puts this offense back on the map.

After our 37th pick we have been building our depth. Would have liked to get another playmaker for Weeden and the offense [Rainey] went a pick before Miller to the Steelers Grrrr! and another DB.

I really don't think we know what we have at WR right now. I firmly believe that the front office saw guys getting open and being ignored last year.

Why else would they draft a new QB int he first, and all but ignore the receiver position in a receiver deep draft?

I agree, a QB is not going to make a average receiver a great one. He can help him reach his potential, but every one has a ceiling.

Really to me it doesn't matter if the Browns think they are good at WR, because if it's not a fact other teams will expose that. They have.

I see maybe 3 go to receivers in this draft and a lot of average types. To me numbers do not = deep in my book.

I liked Ryan Miller a lot.

Reminds me of Steinbach and I'll bet he gives Pinkston a good run for the starting LG spot out of training camp.

I don't think that we have Calvin Johnson types on our team, but I do think that our receivers are a capable group. With a good QB they should start getting better.

Get the QB right and we'll start finding receivers like other teams with good QBs do.

Ryan Miller, OG/OT...6-7, 321 lbs
40 time: 5.27 (6th best for OGs)
Bench: 32 (4th best for OGs)

At the least, Miller adds versatility and depth at the OG and OT positions. He is kind of a tweener, but has looked best as OG.

As someone pointed out, Lauvao and Pinkston are on notice...the Browns drafted a young OG who wants your job. I would not be surprised if the Miller starts at some point this season. Miller's fundamentals are better than Pinkston's who was an OT forced into starting at OG due to Steinie's back injury.

Bottom line, both our OGs are going to have to compete with Miller to keep their starting job...both will have to raise the level of their performance, which is good for the RBs and the QBs.

I agree. I wanted him for the Browns. Now I am going to have to watch him burn us twice a year for a decade.
