I saw both Tribe homers live....and I would have sworn that Hafner's was going to leave the ballpark after he hit it. The swing, the speed.....and it squeeks over the wall by 2-3 feet. Santana's looked the same way, but his almost did leave the park. Going to the 9th with a 3-run lead. I think Wickman will put two on before closing it out.

Got Niemann picked up for tomorrow in my $ league, I'll pick anybody up and throw them against Seattle's offense as much as possible.
If you can't get a hit against Phil Humber, you can't get a hit against anybody.

flukiest perfect game ever. i do love all the fantasy geeks that fell for it, picked him up and he took a dump on their team.
also, anytime a team gets to face the White Sox bullpen, they should only count every other hit in the stats. man, they make Humber look like a good pitcher. Thornton was throwing watermelons over the plate, our lack of offense is the only reason things didn't get ugly for them.

LOL To be fair, he actually had a fair number of 1-2-3 innings last season. Perhaps he's finally rounding into form after an abbreviated Spring. Regardless, it's good to see.

wonder what Brantleys reaction was getting dropped that far in the line-up? By the way if Matt Underwood called Hafners hr a "monster-shot" one more time I was gonna fly to Chicago and bi*** slap him

"I guess Skip noticed I'm hitting just above the Mendoza line. I better focus on getting my position in the order back."
I've always felt the order should be changed to suit how people are hitting, not how you think they should be hitting. For example, why is Jack Hannahan hitting 9th? Dude has been swinging it well, hitting near .300 and he's stuck at the bottom of the lineup. Get the good guys more ABs. And then you have guys like Brantley and Shoo barely hitting their weight at the top (of course, they were dropped very recently).
And also one more thing, Kipnis has really turned it on the past 10 days. He was hitting next to nothing and now is up to .279....way to go man!

I would agree though most players say that they like to have consistency in where they hit in the lineup. now, Jack should be hitting 6th or 7th regardless (he just seems so good with RISP), but I understand with wanting some consistency.
I do wonder what would happen if a manager said that he would daily shift his lineup card and told the players to not worry about where they are hitting and to just approach the AB as if it's an AB (and not due to a position in the lineup - ala cleanup hitter should be power-hitter).

Alright, 1-0 Tribe. To continue with last night: pitching sucks, offense is turrible, and the defense looks like a 3rd grade tee ball team...

So many guys in big sports with DL / IR season ending injuries.. Yanks and Bosox at the bottom of division.. AND Tribe in first?
Dang Toto.. are we still in Kansas? This is unbelievable.

Good series by Tribe. First Series they've actually looked like a good team, imho. We'll see if it lasts. Texas is just crushing fools.

Always good to show glee in an injury of one the all time great players of all time. And has shown nothing but class his entire career. Although you wouldn't know class if it hit you in the face.

I'm no Yankee fan, but I'd have no problem wearing a jersey of his around town. Mariano has been nothing but classy and one of the all time greats. It's easy to dislike arod, teixeira and all other high-priced Yankee mercenaries but Mo and Jeter were homegrown, HOFame talent and have done nothing to embarrass the game. It's crazy to think he hasn't been on the DL since 2003. And we're talking about a guy that pitches at a high level very often. I feel bad this may be the end of his career. He deserved a full year to travel the country and get an official send-off from every team (see Kareen Abdul Jabar). As far as the Tribe.....eat that White Sox fans. " 1st place, 1st place, 1st place..."

As a Yankee fan. This sucks. Something no one expects.
I don't think he'll come back, I think this is it. And, I think the Yanks will go on about their business.
But Rivera is the best closer ever. At least, best i've ever seen. By far. I don't know about some of the older pitchers, but it's hard for me to believe anybody could have been better than him
He'll be the last player to wear 42 (cause he is the last player to wear 42, lol)

The position was treated much differently in the past, and even if you go way way back, they didn't even really exist.
He's definitely the greatest of all time.
One of the most amazing stats of his is between Sandy Alomar's 8th inning homerun in the '97 divisional and Luis Gonzalez's walk off in 2001, he did not allow a post season run, and the Yankees were world champs every year in between. That's remarkable.

Hannahan with a blast...maybe
Watching the game and just thinking about how one minor decision in the course of a game can have such an exponential impact. Take the second inning decision for Brantley to try to steal with two outs and Hannahan up. Second inning:
T Hafner lined out to second. 0 0 C Santana singled to right. 0 0 S Choo homered to center, C Santana scored. 0 2 M Brantley singled to center. 0 2 C Kotchman flied out to left. 0 2 M Brantley caught stealing second, catcher to shortstop. 0 2 3 outs.
Now, assume that Brantley doesn’t try to steal. Next two at bats:
J Hannahan homered to right. 1 3 J Damon flied out to left. 1 3 3 outs, and inning ends with 4 runs instead of 2. Which also means that the next inning, instead of starting with Damon flying out and then the solo homer by Hannahan, starts with
J Kipnis doubled to deep right center. 1 3 A Cabrera grounded out to second, J Kipnis to third. 1 3 T Hafner grounded out to second. 1 3
instead of this being the third out, it’s the second. Next batter:
C Santana singled to center. Instead of Kipnis stranded, we now have 5 runs instead of 3.
Of course, it’s all situational, and you can’t guarantee the at bats would be the same. So many other factors. It’s just a fascinating sport in that there are these “small” decisions, like whether to try and steal second, and it can have a huge effect on the outcome of the game, or no impact at all. The decision here for Brantley to steal probably came from the fact that Hannahan has been hot with runners in scoring position and two outs - but he’s been hitting singles and doubles, not homers.
