C.C. was terribly inconsistent for us. Maybe it's the same story with Ubaldo?

Man I hope so. CC got if figured out. It drive me nuts seeing what he is capable of compared to what he does more times then not.

the problem with Ubaldo is that he was actually terribly consistent before this year. his GB%, his SO:BB ratio, SO rate, etc. his ERA has fluctuated, but his xFIP has actually been pretty consistent (largely meaning that he's as good as the defense behind him).

now, the 2 exceptions are the 1st half of 2010 (better than normal) and the first month of this season (absolutely terrible in every respect before yesterday).

I just read in interesting point on a blog that I couldn't agree with more. The nuts and bolts of it were that as we sit here arguing over how this teams record is better then it should be based on the numbers (ie, unusually high win percentage in 1 run games) that can't be expected to remain at the levels they currently are, how much better is this then the Eric Wedge April's and May's where they were 10-20 with better overall talent?

I really like what Acta is doing, everything down to how he interacts with the fans. You really can't do anything but hope this guys succeeds for a long time.

agreed. i'd rather be the team that is out-performing expectations and metrics than the team that is under-performing expectations and metrics

I was a fan of Wedge's. Thought he got screwed by CC Sabathia's poor performance in the 2007 playoffs. He pitches one decent game against the Red Sox and we are more than likely world champs. He pressed every right button he could in those playoffs. When your ace poops his pants in 2 starts in one series, you have no chance.

With all that said, I love Manny. I love the way the guys react to him. I think he has a ton of respect in that clubhouse. He's behind his guys, and I think he has surrounded himself with good people as far as coaching goes.

I hope he sticks around for a long time.

Ugh, I'm stuck listening to Ken "Hawk" Harrelson for the afternoon game.

Phil Humber's perfect game might be the flukiest game in the last 20 years of MLB. What a random great game surrounded by mediocre.

Getting rocked in the second inning by Tribe right now.

I think I'd rather listen to Austin Carr call a baseball game than listen to Hawk for the rest of the afternoon. It is fun to hear his voice all defeated watching this collapse.

well, he did follow that 2nd inning up by getting rocked harder in the 3rd.

I love Humber and the false-hope he gave the White Sox

Speaking of Austin Carr, I think the Indians just told Phil Humber to "get that weak stuff outta here.".

If you are stuck listening to Hawk, this has to be the absolute best case scenario of events. My guess is that he still makes you want to stick forks in your ears even though they're getting bombed.

I love all the dead air in giant blowouts like these.

I will give him this, there is nobody else in baseball broadcasting that tells a better story than Hawk.

Is the afternoon game only on WGN? STO is showing regular programming right now. I don't know if I can listen to these homer Sox announcers any longer.

There are two types of Cleveland Indians season.

Play like crap early, then catch fire late, but just miss the playoffs.

Play great early, and then crash hard late (usually do to injuries or CC being fat)

I was totally prepared for the former season based on opening day and the first few weeks, but apparently they would rather build me up to crush my dreams this year.

Thanks Chief.

Nice job by Hagadone for his 1st major league save.

I think he was leaving Ascencio in too long with the hope he wouldn't have to use another pitcher in a double header day. Really like Hagadone a lot. I don't know how you send him back to the minors when R. Perez gets off the DL.

Speaking of pitchers, the White Sox pitcher who replaced Humber was really impressive. It was his first MLB action and he pitched 6 innings of 1 hit ball. If that is a harbinger of the future, the White Sox are in good shape.

I was ok until I heard "Danny Wheeler warming up in the bullpen" over the radio. Then I got REAL worried.

Been watching the Yahoo game channel all game. Awesome win. Sent a few e-mails to my sales rep in our Chicago Store.

On a side note the iHeartRadio app with a smart phone knows your location, if you are in the broadcast area you should be able to get the game feed. They need to make that happen. Where my office is I don't get good radio reception but I have internet access on my phone. Would have loved to listen to the game.

Hagadone has been impressive.

Hard to believe that we got both him and Masterson for Victor Martinez.

funny to remember that it was the trade people lamented over the most (because it was pretty obvious CC and Lee were leaving) and it is the one that got us the most in return.

Victor hit .330 last season with 103 RBI's.

He obviously suffered the knee injury this year, which was a tad unlucky but he hit .336 in 2009 with BOS, .302 in 2010 with BOS and .330 in 2011 with DET. It's not as if he's declined as a player.

I don't even think it's debatable as to who "won" that trade at this point, if we're comparing players (and not the fact that Boston only held on to Vic for 1.5 seasons). If you're comparing Masterson (20-32 w/ Cleveland) and a guy who had an average around .315 over 3 seasons (Martinez), well, I know who I'd take in that one.

Hadagone and Price were shots in the dark. We'll see if either sticks at the MLB level. Price has been stuck in AA and Hadagone has only logged 20 MLB innings.

Masterson has been average to below average as a top of the rotation pitcher. Not sure that's worth an upper echelon hitter, even if Vic was 30 at the time of the trade. Masterson could obviously develop in to a more dominant pitcher (there's always that chance) but at this point the Indians traded an all-star level bat for a pitcher who has good stuff but average pitching numbers.

As I understand the rules, this would be a Tribe win if the game cannot be completed tonight.

As I understand the rules, the game would be an official game, and not a suspended game.

This is out of order, but makes more sense in this order:

Official Rules | MLB.com: Official info
http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/official_rules/start_end_4.jsp

NOTE: Weather and similar conditions—Rules 4.12(a)(1) through 4.12(a)(5)—shall take precedence in determining whether a called game shall be a suspended game. If a game is halted by weather, and subsequent light failure or an intervening curfew or time limit prevents its resumption, the game shall not be a suspended game. If a game is halted by light failure, and weather or field conditions prevent its resumption, the game shall not be a suspended game. A game can only be considered a suspended game if stopped for any of the six reasons specified in Rule 4.12(a).

4.12
SUSPENDED GAMES.
(a) A game shall become a suspended game that must be completed at a future date if the game is terminated for any of the following reasons:
(1) A curfew imposed by law;
(2) A time limit permissible under league rules;
(3) Light failure or malfunction of a mechanical field device under control of the home club. (Mechanical field device shall include automatic tarpaulin or water removal equipment);
(4) Darkness, when a law prevents the lights from being turned on;
(5) Weather, if a regulation game is called while an inning is in progress and before the inning is completed, and the visiting team has scored one or more runs to take the lead, and the home team has not retaken the lead; or
(6) It is a regulation game that is called with the score tied. National Association Leagues may also adopt the following rules for suspended games. (If adopted by a National Association League, Rule 4.10(e) would not apply to their games.):
(7) The game has not become a regulation game (41/2 innings with the home team ahead, or 5 innings with the visiting club ahead or tied).
(8) If a game is suspended before it becomes a regulation game, and is continued prior to another regularly scheduled game, the regularly scheduled game with be limited to seven innings.
(9) If a game is suspended after it is a regulation game, and is continued prior to another regularly scheduled game, the regularly scheduled game will be a nine inning game.

First off, nothing Victor did last year counts. If he didn't re-sign with Boston, then why are we so sure he was re-signing here? we traded him obviously because we were looking ahead and cutting payroll.

Justin Masterson isn't FA eligible until 2015. He is pitching a ton of innings and doing well overall. I'm not concerned if his record doesn't show how many Quality Starts of his were wasted with the team not scoring enough runs (ridiculous last year).

There is some concern that he's not the ace he looked like last season and the concern is valid. However, he is at worst a #3 starter and probably a #2 starter. For the next 6.5 seasons instead of 1.5. That is significant.

Plus, Hagadone looks like a great reliever. Bonus points for that even if we haven't seen the 3rd guy yet (name escapes me at the moment).
