General reply about the Lakers:
I'm no Laker fan, and as an ex-LA resident I hate most Laker fans, but I think you guys are forgetting that they wrapped up the last round Saturday night. They looked gassed in that game, and OKC has had over a week (?) to rest and prepare.
I can't say the Lakers are gonna pull it out, but I can say that the series will be way more exciting than that game last night.

After Linsanity ran its course and Carmelo came back, the Knicks went 1-7 over an 8-game stretch, including 6 straight losses, after which D'Antoni's resigned. They then blew out Portland in Woodson's first game and finished the season on an 18-6 run.
AV injury definitely was the first nail in our coffin.

I hope so, and for people hoping the Heat get beaten by them should hope so too. I think going another 4 and out isn't the best thing for OKC. I think that team needs to be pushed around a bit.
You get complacent, and you could blow a game early, and we saw what that did for the Cavs in 2009. I just think the healthiest thing for OKC is a good hard fought series.

I didn't remember it as as bad as 1-7 in that stretch. but, we were definitely on a course out of the playoffs after the AV injury (the Bucks would have taken the 8seed if not the Knicks). we just didn't have the quality bigs to get past that injury.
a legit concern going into this offseason as well.

I can't stand the Lakers .....mainly Bryant .....but I agree with you.
It's much more likely that last night's game was an outlier than the norm.
However, OKC was the better team in the regular season, better team head to head, they are faster and younger. I thought the Lakers might pull out this series but I am rethinking it.
Besides Lakers are a team with a lot of quit in them when the going gets tough. Over the years when they know they dont stand a chance they'll usually lay down. That includes Bryant ....the most overrated superstar of all time in any sport.

People always forget that Bryant quit, literally quit, during a game seven against the Suns in 2006. ( Link) Doesn't seem like something would do right? Not take any shots in the 2nd half of a game seven when his team is down.

Well, if he tries and fails then he's not good enough.
If he just quits then it's a protest about the coach or his teammates or whatever. Shifts the blame.
I've never seen a collective fanbase like LA where one guy can do no wrong at all ever. He is so revered by that fanbase that there are actually people who think he has a shot at being the greatest of all time....or most of them believe he already is.

Yes. I live in Lakers fan Ground Zero. Everyone has a Laker flag on their car (when the Lakers are going good). I know people who would take Kobe Bryant first overall in a hypothetical fantasy basketball draft. Even when it is explained to them that Kobe is much older than other players (who are currently better) they still take Kobe.

I like Kobe but you're dead-on, Kobe fanboys are the absolute worst.
The guy is a great player, one of the greatest. I don't think he's better than MJ but he would definitely be in the team picture of greatest players of all time.
And that game 6 against Phoenix has to be a knock. Would Jordan ever do that? I know Kobe had a different path but there's no way Jordan gives up a game in the middle of January let alone a playoff game to prove some kind of a point.
I just don't get how Lebron gets annihilated by the media and fans for supposedly quitting in a game but Kobe somehow goes by unscathed.

Please list his tremendous performances on a big stage. I mean this is a perfect example of the myth being greater than reality.
He had some nice games in the early run of championships as Shaqs sidekick.
He hit a game winner in the Phoenix series ....the one that he eventually gave up on.
When is the last time he's had a signature game in the playoffs.....a tremendous performance as you say.
His tremendous performances happen in the regular season.

Your post is spot on. Even I have to admit he's probably top 10, maybe 11-15. That's an amazing accomplishment.
But people want to make it out like he's top 5 or on Jordan's level because he plays 2 guard and has a turnaround jumper. Kobe's game and Jordan's game are nothing alike really.

To be fair, the Bynum thing was pretty hilarious. Didn't Bynum cry on the bench after Phil unleashed on him? I know Big Baby did, I wasn't sure if it was just Davis or both of them.

I see LeBron on the court with Mario Chalmers, Joel Anthony, Norris Cole and Shane Battier, and I think about how LeBron's supporting cast in Cleveland was soooooo bad, and I shake my head a bit and chuckle to myself.
He's played 31 minutes in this game with a full quarter of play left, after playing 40 on Sunday.
