Report: Bengals interested in Braylon Edwards
Posted by Evan Silva on May 7, 2012, 9:56 PM EDT

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday’s edition of NFL Live that the Bengals have expressed interest in free agent receiver Braylon Edwards.

Schefter also reported that the Jets have interest, although theirs was previously known.

The 29-year-old Edwards’ market never developed during the heart of free agency because he was rehabbing knee and shoulder injuries at the time. Edwards recently revealed that he’s currently in Miami “getting healthy working out.”

The Bengals used third- and fifth-round picks on receivers, drafting Mohamed Sanu out of Rutgers and Marvin Jones from Cal. Edwards would give Cincinnati a veteran option to compete for snaps opposite A.J. Green.

Becareful what you wish for, with AJ Green on the other side Edwards would be a nightmare for CBs to handle 1 on 1. You think ShelDONT Brown can keep up with Edwards you are mistaken.

I know. SF was so sick of their CBs not being able to handle Edwards in practice that they cut BE before the playoffs to build the DBs confidence.

BE stinks. The.End.

Sorry, there's lots of Buckeyes that I had high hopes for who flamed out in the NFL too.

The fact that he was hurt didnt have anything to do with it I am sure. I dont understand the hatred for the best wr he have had since our return. Everyone got their wish and we ran him out of town and we have had crappy wr production since.

Kind of ironic that you have a quote from the most productive QB we've had since 1999 ........ which is, I assume, attempting to disparage him.

I guess different people have different likes and dislikes. I don't think that Edwards would work in the WCO, which requires precise route running, and catching the ball with the hands. Neither of those were a strength for him in his career. Plus, the QB has a specific route read, and him lobbying in the huddle would not be good for a young QB. Add in that he was a #3 overall pick, but only has really had one highly impactful (1000+ yard) season, and further that he has declined since then, and is coming off of injury to boot ....... I'll pass.

The Browns should have signed him before the Bengals had a chance to.
Cedrick benson too.
I'd be stoked if the Browns had signed Cedric Benson and Brayon Edwards, very little downside, much upside.

Hmm.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

It just seems like you were down on people "hating on" Edwards, while your signature seems to do the same to Anderson.

Maybe I'm wrong ... and there's some complimentary purpose to the Anderson quote .......

Edwards coming back here will never ever ever happen.

I agree ..... like I said, he doesn't fit the offense we run, which requires precise routes and sure hands. Edwards does not run precise routes at all. His hands are iffy at best. He had one great year ...... then slid towards decent status and below.

He was a great guy in the community, I will definitely give him that though. He did a lot for kids with scholarships and such.

The inside of me really wants to see Edwards end up in Cincy. REALLY wants that to happen.

Not only would the Bengals get burned by yet another high-risk character problem, but Edwards would land in the one state he never wanted any part of, AND he'd have to come to Cleveland for what is still a fierce rivalry. I'd take vacation just to hear the boo's rain down on him.

There are many players I root against, but this I know to be true: There are only a couple of players in the NFL that I truly hate, who if I bumped in to I wouldn't even think about shaking their hands. Baby Edwards is one of those men, his charities be damned. Throwing money at a cause didn't make him a better person.

Maybe not, but in case some aren't looking, Cincy now looks to be headed to the top of the division.

It wouldn't surprise me to see them win it this year.

Could be ..... but they always seem to take a step backwards after taking a step forward.

They have not had back to back winning seasons since 1975-1976. Their only other back to back winning seasons in their franchise history was 1972-1973.

That's a lot of history to overcome. Maybe they do it ..... but I'm not betting money on it.

I hope they do snag up Leon. Dude would get hit so hard everytime he played us, it would be really amusing.. all our players know Leon doesn't like Cleveland.

Brayin' Edwards to THEM? I didn't like him here when he loused up. Hope he gets crushed if he comes "home." I didn't like him then, and I certainly like him less after injuries and hanging his carcass out to age. We don't need the chemistry issues (again).

Now let me get this right. Cleveland is in Ohio,, Cleveland hated him because he was from Michigan.

Cincinnati is in Ohio, won't Cinci hate him also for the same reason

Did u see the last time when braylon came to Cleveland? they roughed him up pretty good. Our roster defensively is really No different since then with the exception of sheard and Taylor.

please. I had no qualms with Braylon when he was here though I tired of his off-field attitude. He ran himself out of town.

and injury causes a team to put a guy on the IR, not outright cut him the week before the playoffs begin.

Given how much Braylon denigrated Cleveland (and Ohio) upon his leaving for New York, it would be somewhat ironic and really hilarious if he signed with Cincinatti. I don't know, the Bengals nabbed Sanu in the 3rd rd (a WR I really hoped we might draft) and I think he's good enough to start in Cinci with what they have... Braylon's signing would be more like a depth pick, he wouldn't be starting or at least, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't even get the job after camp/pre-season. Braylon would have just come to and gone from yet another NFL team in his oh so illustrious career.

When was the last time he was here?? How about when he was with the Jets..... and that was 2010. WAY more than just a couple of guys on our roster has changed since then... in fact, almost the ENTIRE defensive roster is different. In that time span, we've gone from Mangini's 3-4 to whatshiname's 4-3.

Most importantly, we have a new head coach and new d-coord since then.... oh, yeah... and almost a completely different secondary. Haden & Ward were both rookies and had no idea who BE was in regards to C-Town. They were playing hard because they were rookies and Mangini most likely told them to get in his face. There isn't a single player in our secondary that actually played here with BE. DQ, Maiava & Rubin are the ONLY defensive players that did play with him.

Jackson, Maiava, Rubin.. isn't that about it from the 2010 D? And wasn't Jackson out with Injury?

I think the Bengals interest in Edwards comes from the fact that they have a very young WR core.
It doesn't take much for a WR to get injured these days. He can land on the IR with little or no contact.
If A.J Green goes down, who do they have that is big and can strech the field?
The Bengals would be screwed.

Edwards was here with the Niners last year.

He caught 4 passes for 42 yards.

almost 1/3 of his receptions for the year
and over 1/4 of his yardage for the year
plus, he scored as many TDs against us as he did the rest of the year combined (0 for both)

Technically, we were there - he wasn't here, and that is what I went off of.

And we didn't exactly play him - or them as a whole - very tough at all. They're one of the teams that abused us at will.

You certainly don't have very high expectations. Benson averaged 3.5 yards per carry in 2010 and 3.9 yards per carry last year. And he's not getting any younger. Over his seven year career Benson averaged 3.8 yards per carry. Where is the upside their? Benson is old, expensive, and unproductive. That is not a good combo.

Braylon Edwards has had one very good season in seven years (2007). He was merely "okay" in three other seasons. The Jets replaced him with Plaxico Burress, who was just released from prison, because Edwards was a headcase. Edwards then signed with the 49ers and had 181 receiving yards for the season. He was then cut right before a playoff game. Edwards is also hated in Cleveland and hates Cleveland himself. He is also 29 years old. I agree with you wanting to sign a player like Braylon Edwards, but that player cannot be Braylon Edwards.

Possibly. Many of the people on here, myself included, thought they would be in 2010 when they picked up TO and came off of sweeping the division in 2009.

I guess we'll have to see it play out, but I do really feel they are going to have a lot more challenges getting to a winning percentage this year than last year.

Everything we've been hearing about. Hard schedule etc.

Maybe people will eventually figure out that all Andy Dalton really does is throw it up to AJ Green?

I think the loss of Benson('s production), and replacing him with Green-Ellis will hurt them most of all.

and I would keep doing it until the defense can stop it.

People have been predicting the decline of the Steelers for a long time... I'll believe it when I see it. The Ravens are shifting from a defense dominated team to an offense dominated team (and their D is aging but still pretty good)

I think its far more rational to predict the Bengals regressing as opposed to the Steelers and Ravens, who have dependably been the top two teams in the division seemingly year after year, with a few hiccups here and there, but these mostly happen when they're shifting from one good core group of players to another.

The Bengals may very well repeat last year's success. I just think it will be unlikely.

Besides, you never know what you're talking about anyway.

The last time The Steelers won less than 8 games...

...It put them in position to draft Ben Rothlisberger...

...Just saying...
