I'm not a zombie guy when it comes to movies or TV.
Not an apocalypse guy when it comes to movies or TV.
But my sister got me and my wife to watch this show on AMC, and it is friggin' awesome. We just finished watching season 2. Now we have to wait until the fall for season 3. I'm going to go crazy waiting.
Awesome, awesome show. Last 3 episodes of season 2 were incredible.
Anyone else watch this?

I watched the first season. Was awesome...
...all the way up until the Season Finale... and it basically ruined the show for me...
Way to over the top.
I tried to get back into it at the start of this season, but couldn't...
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

I am a big fan of this show. Every episode is on my DVR. When I first started watching it, my wife said "is there anything else on?" Well, now she is hooked to the show.
Like you said, it sucks we have to wait until fall for the next season.

I like the show, but I am annoyed by pretty much every female cast member. I root for them to die.

It will start in October just like the past 2 seasons.
My biggest complaint was the mid season break from the end of November until February. I hated that.

My brother watched season one and was telling me how awesome the show was, but by that time it was on episode 4. I very rarely start watching a show I haven't seen from the beginning. Even during the first half of season two my brother was telling me I have to watch it. Well, I logged into Netflix one day and season one was on there.
Me and my wife started watching it and I loved it. Since season two was still current Time Warner had most of the episodes On Demand. There were two episodes that were not on there and I ended up buying them off the Playstation Store and we were caught up before the second half of season 2 started in February.
You can tell it's popular because it was picked up so quickly for a third season and they even started a late night talk show dedicated to the show called Talking Dead.

Have to give my own thread a bump. This show is awesome. No other watchers out there? If not, I strongly suggest renting seasons 1 and 2. You won't be disappointed.

I have season 1 in my Netflix Queue, but I haven't gotten around to watching it yet.
One day I will.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Love the show! I've read some of the comics so I know some of what's coming. Overall, very well made show (though I am surprised they get away with some of what they do on cable)
I am hoping that they don't do another prolonged break in the middle of the season.
Can't want to see next season! The General! The prison! And Michonne! It's gonna be awesome!

Really enjoy the show but thought the loss of Frank Darabont really showed. There were some cooky things being done & said in season 2. The writers decided to make Lori a very annoying idiot.
It's still good enough that I'll keep watching.
I read a few of the comics back in the day. Liked the situations & action but thought the writing ranged from kind of corny to pretty bad.
If you want a realistic feeling take on a zombie epidemic, read the novel, 'World War Z' by Max Brooks. LOTS of crazy stuff in there. It's written in a kind of documentary style and shows people all over the globe dealing w the problem.
Funny, Brooks is Mel Brooks' son...

Loved season 1, Season 2 dragged when AMC cut the budget. Really, season 2 almost killed it for me. Heavy on the drama, little on the zombies. I hope they kick it up a notch in season 3.

Season 1 was good, really anticipated season 2 only to find it really started out slow but I thought it was decent. I thought they let too much drag out over several episodes when it was obvious what was going to happen anyway.
I think they need to get out an explore more. If you think the world is full of zombies, then you need to really look at creating a fortress, and find a way to get out and exterminate the zombies, not just sit around a farm and fight amongst each other all the time.

Go back and look at the very LAST thing they showed at the end of the season 2 finale . . .

To me this is the beauty of the show. There is a real focus on character development. It's not really about zombies. It's about how these people are dealing with the end of the world and how their personalities continue to change as they adapt.
I didn't think season 2 was slow at all in the beginning.
Could be that I watched them all back to back after the fact since I didn't get turned onto the show until season 2 was already over.

If I recall they were in what appeared to be a walled area (some broken down at that), not much bigger then a garage. Maybe I missed or have forgotten something, but I don't recall them being in a fortress or anything close. They were basically in the wide open with some crumbling walls around them.

This! The show isnt an action zombie movie. Its more about the people then the zombies.

Man, it took me about thirty seconds to figure out what you meant.
Is that true or did you just make that up? Is there some back story to the title?

I quit reading the comics so I don't know if it was ever written. But I've talked to plenty of people who read them all say that. That's all I'm going on.
Makes sense though . . . Kind of a double meaning, at least . . .

They sort of say it in different ways in a few episodes. Talking about how their old lives are gone, they cant be how they used to etc etc

Don't people only watch because zombies are going to get slaughtered? That's why I watch. I could really do without all the characters besides Daryl and Glenn. I wouldn't care if any of the others got munched on by a walker. I especially hope Carl gets eaten.

Yeah. The son of a Sheriff who finds a gun and wanders off to play with it like a toy?
Either his father wasn't very good at teaching about gun safety or the kid is an idiot, or a little of both. I could see if he was 6 years old, but he appears to be what 10-12 in the show?

I laughed when he started throwing rocks at the zombie from 5 feet away and wasn't even close to hitting the zombie.

One thing I don't understand about the zombies.....maybe someone who has read the comic books can clear up.
They explained how people become zombies. But the zombies also appear to have super human strength, and they haven't explained that. They just rip people and animals open like it's nothing.

I'll second this. I like Rick, but his family SUCKS. His wife is just as bad as his pest of a son.
The characters aren't all that great, but this show is incredible. Maybe it's just because the zombie-genre is so awesome.
I still have a few eps of the last season to finish up so I'm gonna duck out of this topic, lol.

I read something about this the other day and they basically explained it as the don't have a lot of fat or muscle around their fingers so their fingers are kind of widdled down to the bones which are pretty sharp... which is why some of them can rip flesh? I dunno... not the best explanation
In terms of the title - I think someone mentioned about the people's lives being totally different but if you watched the last episode of season 2 you know that they literally are the walking dead because they are all infected!
And at the end of that episode that was the PRISON! Probably won't be finding much protection there as I know they have announced that the governor character from the comics will be making an appearance next season... he's basically the psychotic ruler of a gang that lives in the prison... can't WAIT to see how they use him in the tv series.

It sounds like there will be the addition of many new characters in season 3.
Wonder what that means for the original cast.

I know for sure that Michonne, the Governor will be two big time characters added this year... which means we'll likely get the governor's gang...
plus I'm almost positive Merle will be back this season.

Believe it or not, they did a "Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse" special on history one night. They went through and listed disease after disease, anthrax and rabies being some of them, where if they had been genetically engineered together, could result in the ZA virus. It went into depth about how the side effects of the ZA virus, like as you said, withered fingers from reduced blood flow would let a zombie more easily tear apart something, the lack of functioning pain receptors would allow said zombie to continue to push past points of pain we'd normally buckle under. In order to keep the body functioning the adrenal glands would have to kick in and would result in super strength. It also went into practical weapons, survival tactics, scavenging, things like that. It was pretty informative and made Hell on Earth and the complete extinction of the human race from a super virus seem very plausible. If you ever see it, I suggest you check it out.
