Sources tell Fox 8 Sports’ John Telich that Browns defensive lineman Phil Taylor may have suffered an injury in pre-season training today.

The exact time the injury occurred is not yet known, but multiple sources say that he is getting an MRI performed.

Taylor is coming off a fine rookie season and was being counted on to anchor the defensive line as new players like Frostee Rucker were added.

When first informed of his injury a source indicated it’s a chest injury, but as of this writing we have not been able to confirm the nature of the injury.

Fox 8 contacted a Browns official who said, “This is the first I have heard of this”. He could not confirm any incident took place.

Fox 8 will continue to pursue this breaking story.

Hope it's nothing too major, though I expect 2 reactions:

1) Oh My God we're cursed! ; and/or

2) Oh My God we will never win another game ever!

I read it was a torn pec. Could be out awhile.

LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

3) Oh My God our run defense!

Don't worry though, for we have Hughes!

we'll see how long he is out for before we worry. but, even if it's just 2 months (minor if it is pectoral) that still means that he cannot work on his upper body strength before the season. a shame

which is why he was working hard in the offseason to improve his overall conditioning/stamina. a shame.

That still doesn't' make it unimportant and what might end up being a significant loss.

Bring in Tommie Harris or John Henderson..
maybe the Browns can swing a trade for a DT who is on a team that is well stocked.

if it's closer to November, we might as well wait until next year. I think I've heard that phrase before.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Dunno if this is an update or not ......

Cleveland Browns DT Phil Taylor awaiting MRI results for possible torn pec, might need surgery

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Browns defensive tackle Phil Taylor is undergoing an MRI for a possible torn left pectoral muscle and might need surgery, his agent Peter Schaffer confirmed for The Plain Dealer today.

"We're awaiting results of the MRI,'' Schaffer. "He's staying positive. He's got a great attitude. He'll either be 100 percent or come back 100 percent.''

The Browns released the following statement: "Browns defensive tackle Phil Taylor injured his left pectoral today lifting weights as part of the club's off-season program. He will be further evaluated on Monday to determine a course of treatment."

Browns linebacker D'Qwell Jackson missed all of 2010 and most of 2009 with two separate torn pectoral muscles.

Taylor, the Browns first-round pick last season out of Baylor, started all 16 games in 2011 and finished seventh on the team with 59 tackles. He also had four sacks and a forced fumble.

If Taylor has to miss games, the Browns may have to rely on rookie defensive tackle John Hughes. A third-round pick out of Cincinnati, he was drafted to be part of the tackle rotation.

He signed a four-year contract today and will be on the field for rookie camp Friday.

The Browns also signed defensive linemen Frostee Rucker and Juqua Parker in free agency.

just hope it is a partial and not something that requires surgery. I had very little confidence about this season and i have a lot less now than I did this morning.

Since I refuse to believe in superstition I'm starting to question our S&C coaches and or team docs...I mean, Dqwell twice and now Taylor? Starting too tough too early? Do you know how tough it is to get this injury?

I have to agree with that. Guys aren't warming up or they are trying to lift to much. It is one of the other, if not both.

Ugggh. We just can't afford ANY steps back. This is disheartening . . .

Here's hoping the depth & rotational guys can step up . . .

or it could just be a freak injury.. that also happens to the most fit athletes on the planet..

I'm sad, but I'll wait to hear the results before I slit my wrists...LOL

We did add some depth on the D line so while this isn't good, it's also not the end of the world... These things happen to every team in the league. The good teams find a way to win anyway.

Well ..... I had heard a report that they were going to try and take about 20 pounds off Wynn and work him on the outside ...... but maybe they'll leave him as is and play him inside now instead.

That would be my plan for Winn. I think he just had to much bulk on him and it slowed him down and may have contributed to some of his injury issues. He seems like he would be much more comfortable as 260 lb DE.

Personally, I would be on the phone to a vet like Tommy Harris. There are always a few vet DT's available this time of year so we are at least lucky on the timing. Albert Haynesworth worth kicking the tires on as well.

We'll have to do something.

Now we will find out about Hughes!

I'd say Taylor is a wash this year.....the FO needs to look at bringing in a vet who can give us some depth and some plays...

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

Huge. Bummer.

Good thing we drafted Hughes and Winn. Hope Phil can make it back after PUP. Did the shortened IR option make it through the proposed rule changes this year?

Get well soon, big man.

Wasn't DQ injured in action? (Not lifting)

DQ was injured in action the 2nd time I believe, the 1st time I think it was lifting/"working out" (meaning; could have been doing any number of exercises that caused it, I don't recall hearing of a specific drill). I might have those crossed up.

Wait, didn't Steinbach have the same thing happen too?
Yeah, I'm thinking it might have something to do with out strength and conditioning staff.
After all, we have a great history of making poor staff choices, hiring friends and family that have no idea as to what the h3ll they're doing, you know.
