Most of us have made "mistakes" in night clubs.

But, I'd wager that very few (if any - much more likely none) have brought an unregistered loaded gun w/o the safety on in the waistband of our sweatpants to a night club in one of the most gun-controlled states in the country.

I'd say that's a pretty safe bet

I'm pretty sure I've never worn sweatpants in a nightclub....LOL

What KoB is forgetting is, they all try.. and for what that's worth,, great.

he didn't succeed. he failed miserably. He made blunder after blunder. Really, about the best thing he did was draft Joe Thomas..

No it's not. His problem was he didn't have a handgun permit for NY even though he had one for another state. NY is like California and Mass when it comes to gun control and the Mayor of NY made an example out of him for shooting himself. He would have served less time if he drove over someone while drunk.

With this past draft, the only 2 question marks I have are Weeden and Hughes. Other than that, I believe Heckert has been the best GM we've had since our return.

Haden
Ward
Young
Taylor
Sheard

I think these guys compared to Savage's only hits in Joe Thomas and Rubin proves that in the Heckert vs Savage showdown, our current GM wins hands down. We are on our way building through the draft and I like the results so far.

IIRC, in Ohio it used to be a felony to take a firearm into a liquor establishment. I don't know if that changed with conceal carry or not.

At this point, is Plaxico good enough to make any NFL roster?

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

I'd at least give him a shot. He was a play maker. He couldn't do much worse than MoMass or Norwood.

Knowing H&H Shurmur's statement is probably 100% truth and we aren't even entertaining signing him.

Hughes and Benjamin were insane picks to be honest but Winn, Acho and JMJ were steals, so it balanced out. I like the Saffold undrafted pickup better than the Benjamin selection.

Heckert loves Weeden. It was obvious everytime he spoke about the guy. I like his passing skills, it was just everything else I disliked lol. If he hits on that pick, we are going to be in really good shape.

It's obvious that the thing that Heckert felt was missing from our receiver corps was speed. Benjamin has elite speed, and is geared at fast, faster, and fastest. We'll have to wait and see if he has the rest of the attributes to become a successful WR.

Burress isn't going to add flat out speed. He also had problems with drops over the course of his career. I don't want any part of him at this point.

Yeah, I see Benjamin as the type of guy where he's going to run a lot of fly routes. If he beats his guy, Weeden has the arm to get it to him. If he doesn't beat the guy, then that's one DB that's out of the play.

Or maybe even 2 DB out of the way.

If he busts a coverage here or there, I doubt that teams will straight single cover him.

He'll have to prove he can beat press coverage at this level. He struggled with this in college. There are some things you can do scheme-wise (motion, etc.) to help free him up a bit but he's going to see better, more physical corners here than he ever saw at Miami. He was a 4th-rounder for a reason. We'll see...

That's true, but like we saw last year in reverse, if he does it a few times, teams will start to back off.

The one thing that makes me believe that this kid may be all that is the fact both, QB coach and WR coach, coached him at Miami. No one should know more about this kid's potential than those 2.

Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy: 'I'm working harder than ever'

Wednesday, May 16, 2012, 2:49 PM

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Browns quarterback Colt McCoy is determined to stave off the challenge from rookie Brandon Weeden for his starting job.

"I'm a competitor and I'm working harder than ever,'' he told The Plain Dealer in an email. They were his first public remarks since Weeden was drafted No. 22 overall to become the Browns' starter.

McCoy declined further comment, choosing to focus on the off-season program and the challenge he'll get from Weeden. McCoy might be available next week when the team open its organized activities to the media for one of the three days.

On Monday, Weeden joined McCoy and Seneca Wallace in Phase II of the off-season program, which includes about an hour of work on the field each day, meetings and conditioning.

The Browns have consistently said that Weeden will have to compete for the starting job with McCoy and Wallace, but they're aiming for Weeden to be their starter this season.

Browns coach Pat Shurmur told reporters after a Pro Football Hall of Fame luncheon on Monday that Weeden is "headed in the right direction'' for the starting job, but that he believes McCoy can still win in the NFL.

"Colt McCoy is a gritty guy,” Shurmur told the audience. "I think Colt McCoy is a fine football player and can play quarterback in this league. They’re both guys (Weeden and McCoy) that I want on this team and I want to see them compete. The best one will play when we play Philadelphia in September.''

Shurmur said it's possible that Wallace will stick around, too.

"I think there’s a case to be made that Seneca, Colt and Brandon are all (here) together,” Shurmur said. “We’ll see. I think that’s yet to be determined. We're going to watch them all compete and interact, and we’ll see what happens.''

McCoy went 4-9 last season after the Browns ' top three running backs were injured for all or most of the season, and starting receiver Mohamed Massaquoi was slowed by a broken foot and concussion. Right tackle Tony Pashos also played injured all season.

The Browns repeated said after the 2011 season that they expect McCoy to look better in his second year in the West Coast offense, especially now that he's got an offseason to learn it from the coaches.

Plus the fact that he was somewhat productive even with a pretty awful QB in Miami.

They say that speed kills, so hopefully he does in a few of our opponents.

I remember that Mike Wallace was considered somewhat of an overdraft at the end of round 3 when the Steelers took him....and Antonio Brown was a dime a dozen late round small school speedster

Our FO probably was sick watching PIT make those big plays and us not even being able to try them and decided they needed their own version of Roethli and Wallace/Brown

Weeden should not have the QB job "given to him", just because he was drafted in the 1st round.

Weeden will undoubtedly be the favored QB by many, but he must prove himself as the best QB on the field if he expects to have the full support of his teammates.

Competition usually brings out the best in football players and hopefully, Weeden leaves no doubt in anyone's mind, that he is the best of the 3 QBs on the roster and deserves to be the starter.

Let the competition begin...

Colt McCoy vs. Brandon Weeden

web page

Much has been made of this position battle. Weeden says he's ready to start, and Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren added his two cents: "We drafted a young quarterback that we think can come in and play right away, but we're not just going to hand him the football."

That means he'll have to beat out McCoy, who's taken a lot of abuse for the Browns' poor showing the past two seasons. While Cleveland went 4-12 in 2011, it's important to note that the team went 4-9 with McCoy under center and 0-3 without him. While everyone stroked the greatness of Andy Dalton, the Bengals rookie had A.J. Green, Jerome Simpson, Jermaine Gresham and Cedric Benson to work with. McCoy? How do Chris Ogbonnaya, Greg Little, Mohamed Massaquoi and Evan Moore strike you? Clearly, not the same supporting cast, and perhaps a big reason for McCoy's struggles.

This will all be a moot point, though, if Weeden continues to struggle taking snaps from under center, an issue in rookie minicamp.

Advantage: Weeden. The Browns want Weeden to start, and Holmgren gave McCoy the ultimate kiss of death: "I still love Colt ..." Translation: He's done.

sup...so you support giving the job to Weeden rather than Weeden competing for the job?

That is what Butch did...he gave the job to Holcomb based on his "gut feeling"...remember?

The next season, Butch gave the job to Garcia...remember?

Butch did not believe in competing for a job...he just handed the QB job to the player he liked best...how did that work out for the Browns.

I love national reporters .......

From the reports I read, the one time that Weeden "struggled" taking a snap from Center was when they changed from a right handed Center to a left handed Center .....

Other than that, the reports I read said that he worked almost exclusively under Center, and did fine.

Yep ..... love the national reporters .....

from the local writers, Weeden struggled with snaps and handoffs on the first day (new center, slick jersey's were the 'reasons' given)

after that, there was nothing reported about issues.

------------

we'll see what happens in late July with Mack and preseason games. until then, it doesn't really matter anyway.

That was Richardson who struggled with handling the hand offs because of the "slick double numbers"

The only incident I heard about snaps was when they went from the right handed rook to the left handed rook.
