So, is anyone getting Diablo 3?
I have never been this excited for a video game and it's probably the last video game I will obssess about as I go off to law school in the fall and will not have much time for video games.
So for those of you getting it..which class do you think you'll go?
I honestly can't decide so I may just choose at random. The story looks promising and I can't wait.
Anyone else out there looking forward to D3?

I got it for free by getting a year's worth of WoW, so I'll check it out tomorrow. I used to play D2 all the time, but I'm not really hyped up about it as I probably should be. I'll probably go with the sorc/mage class, as it's been one of my favorites in D2/WoW.

I plan on waiting until next week as I just see major frustration coming to anyone trying to log on the first couple nights.

I want it, but the DRM is total bull. I've got only Time Warner or AT&T for net here, and both suffer a lot of mini-outages, where I lose net 2-3x a day for a few minutes at a time. I just can't stand the thought of losing my progress or having to start over from a save point in a single player game after nearly clearing a level because my internet dropped for 3 minutes in the middle of the night. I guess I could play through my Sprint hotspot every time, but it's only 3g and laggy.
I was ticked that Skyrim went through Steam but I can at least play that in offline mode when my data goes out.

Probably a wise decision. Spent 20 minutes last night just trying to get through the log-in screens before going to bed. I got a character created, but I'll have to wait until after work to get any burn on him.

In-freekin-credible. What is the difference in the difficulty levels? Can it still be taken down by a solo player? I was big fan of Diablo One and Two. Been looking forward to this!

Not entirely. If you skip the cinematics and talking in between (and played the beta so you kind of know what to skip) ... I could see it being beaten in 7 hours.

I don't know yet ... you can't play nightmare difficulty until you beat it on normal. I'm going to guess that you'll need better gear/other people to beat it on harder levels. I've been stuck so far. Stuck at the login screen for most of the initial launch, stuck in bed sleeping, stuck at work, and now stuck because the servers went down for an hour of maintenance.

I would imagine so ... even though it's a battle.net game, I think they still make it so you can solo bosses, and not have to peice together a team.

LOL I usually check the system specs before I buy, but I would be a liar if I said that never happened to me before.

I caved and bought it on the way home last night, Pulled into the parking lot and getting out of their cars are my 2 buddies that I will be playing with, totally unplanned meeting. Played a little late last night, didn't log in until about 10pm (ET). Seems interesting, although having to adjust to the click to move, click to fire thing again. In a group it's tough as I click to fire on a mob, that at the same time someone the group got the kill shot, so now my avatar takes off running to that spot and puts me in the middle of melee range for 10 mobs. So far so good, although as the night went on, I started having freeze ups and screen blinks occasionally, more so when inside a dungeon. I wasn't the only one in our game either, so thinking it's syncing issue with servers.

Thanks. Always played stand alone at home. This is battle.net only then? I appreciate your feedback. Thankee

played it for about an hour last night after install. seemed just like the 1st and 2nd ones, which is a plus! i didnt have any issues with lag or frame rates, but i didnt go that far into the game either. i dont like how you dont get to choose spells/skills that are available to you. i liked diablo 2 when you got to pick what you wanted.

You were actually able to get on?? They had major battle.net server issues last night, and I was barely able to play until really late.

Don't click a mob to shoot at it. Get used to holding the shift key down and clicking in the direction you want to fire. When you do that you stand in place and fire in the direction of your click. If you happen to click on the mob, it will fire at it, but if the mob dies or you misclick, it will still send your spell in that direction, which usually ends up hitting the guy behind the one that just died.

Yeah, they've been having some major server issues. One of the guys I'm playing with is in the UK, and his toon gimps around the screen like he has a broken ankle.

Absolutely! I love that there isn't a huge learning curve. I've been able to teach my brother and his girfriend how to play, because it's pretty similar to D2.

You get to choose. Click "S" and then pick the spell you want for each attack/defense type. It seems like you get a new spell or upgrade for one of your spells every level. It's not necessarily better than an older spell, so sometimes you want to switch back to an older version.

You mean like keybinding alternative spells to other keys? I don't remember being able to do that in D2 ... but it's been awhile since I played that. I remember having to click on the mouse-left or mouse-right icon and selecting the spell you wanted from a tree. Then the number keys were bound to your potions. But it's been years since I played D2, so maybe I'm just forgetting.

You can bind a spell to the left and right mouse button.
Then numbers 1,2,3,4...you have to unlock those.
playing a mage character, and i'm level 9 and have yet to die on normal. I'm getting in the thick of things too. Mage can where armor, and use weapons too.

no, after you level up, you got a + sign and that meant you could level up a specific spell/skill in the TREE of skills.
i am sorry i wasnt clear before.

Oh, you mean how you got to allocate points into different spell trees? Yeah, I do sort of miss that aspect too. I don't mind the new method though. Seems like you get a lot more spell to learn, and you just sort of have to pick the ones you want to go with.
I got up to level 13 on my wizard last night. I seem to be lagging behind most my friends who are in the 20's already.

i miss it, but i agree, the new system is kind of cool. i got up to lvl 5 last night w my monk, and then the servers shut down for maint. it was like 950ish EST ?? i ended up just going to bed instead of waiting for them to restart.
loving the monk right now. my friend was sitting at his PC playing w the wizard, and he was having a harder time than me with DPS, which seemed odd.

I don't seem to have any problem at all with my wizard. Although the range classes are a bit more about avoidance (hit-and-run), where the melee classes tend to be able to sit there and pound it out. Maybe he's not gearing right either? He should be stacking intellect as much as he can. Go to the Character Window, and click the details button to see what kind of damage you can do, and which stats boost it. I replaced one off-hand item last night and went from struggling to shredding.

Put a new processor in, still wouldn't run. Said something about my video card which I know is way more than capable of running this game but I hadnt installed a new driver for it. Installed a new driver and the game finally installed but now it won't load.
I click on the icon to play and it comes up and I hit play and the screen go's grey, then go's black and sits there for a second before it shuts down and some sort of Blizzard msg pops up asking me what I was doing when this problem occured.
This is really frustrating! I exceed every requirement to play this game and I can't even play it and I don't know why. Can't figure it out.

I'll add you when I get home tonight, and maybe we can get some gametime in. Although, I'm not getting very far along because I keep going back to help my friends who haven't made it past Act 1 yet. I think I've killed the Act 1 bosses 5 or 6 times now. Got up to lvl 21 last night. I do notice that your "key" stat like dexterity, intellect or strength seems to make a ton of difference. I had some junk gloves that had nothing but +10 intellect on it, and replaced them with some rare gloves that had a bunch of other stuff on them. My damage went down by a ton and I could see the difference. It reminded me of what we did in D2 ... carry around a 2nd stash of "+chance of magic" stuff, and when you're about to kill a boss, quickly throw on those items before finishing the boss off.

Man, I hate when that happens. Have you looked through the Blizzard support forums to see if anyone is experiencing similar issues? Sometimes you'll get lucky. When you are running the install program, are you doing the "Run as Administrator" option? Right click the installer icon, and pick that. I had a Blizzard Beta thing that wouldn't install until I did that.

A little googling showed a lot of people are experiencing the same problem you are. I found this maybe it will help Quote:
Go into your Control Panels > User Accounts > Turn on the Guest Account Close Control Panels Shift+Right-click the Diablo 3 exe and select Run as a different user Enter Guest with no password when prompted to log in

I figured it out.
My computer is just older than dinosaur turds. It's still AGP graphics card and none of them are compatible with the game.
So my buddy gave me a motherboard and I went and bought some used stuff to piece together a computer that will run Diablo 3.
Never really needed my computer for anything other than the internet because the only computer games I play are the Diablo franchise and it ran D2 fine.
So I believe it is time for un upgrade. It's not state of the art and is a little outdated it'self but it should run D3 perfectly fine. 3.4ghz dual core processor, 2 gigs of ram, and a geforce 7600gt graphics card. I shouldn't have any problems running it after these are installed.

If you turn go under options and turn on elective mode you don't have to choose from a "family" of skills, you can choose any skill you like (no matter which "family" it comes from)
Also, you can rebind keys to QWER (or anything else) to make it easier when you're holding down the SHIFT button.
Loving the game so far, already level 37 lol.

if you have the spare cash, try and get 2gigs more of ram. I'm assuming your only running a 32bit operating system so more is a waste....ram is cheap as hell and by far the best upgrade for cheap.
You'll probably be fine with what you have, but usually ram gets real cheap for older systems, then spikes back up as it's stock dwindles. so if you see it snag it.

is there any disadvantage to elective mode? I'm playing a wizard and haven't really looked into advancing the skill trees too much yet.
