Weeden vs. McCoy is going to end up 115-113 Weeden, regardless of what McCoy does...
Which makes me wonder - has anyone consulted Madden's numbers for the two of them yet to see how they REALLY compare?

McCoy OVR 72 THP 74 THA 79 AWR 74 Weeden OVR 76 THP 89 THA 72 AWR 63 (Yes I totally just made those up.) The only similar ratings they had were INTangibles(McCoy) and AGE(Weeden): 99

I remember in my madden league everyone considered QB's with under 96THP to be a bit of a noodle arm. To put that in perspective Peyton Manning was 96 and Tom Brady 94... my generated QB had 95 and had no problem lobbing it to lee evans though :0

cleve...you can disagree and nolo, you can call it crazy, but I ask both of you, what was the ruling by the NFL on the Cribbs hit?
I'm gonna say the NFL saw that play the same as I did...incidental helmet to helmet contact.
If you think the NFL was just taking it easy on Harrison because they already had him for the MoMass hit...that is not how Goodell's office operates. If Harrison's hit on Cribbs was an illegal hit, the NFL would have stuck it to Harrison again.
The NFL had the video of the Cribbs hit from angles we fans never see. They can watch the play over and over and at any speed they desire. The official word from the NFL was they didn't review the Cribbs hit...but I can guarantee that the NFL looked at the hit and if they felt it was worthy, they would have fined Harrison again or suspended him, if the hit was illegal.
From a Browns fan point of view, I can see why some may be upset over the Cribbs hit, but from a football player point of view, I see nothing wrong with Harrison's hit on Cribbs.
We need to keep in mind that on every play, helmets hit and most of it is not intentional or meant to hurt anyone. Just because helmets collide, it does not mean it's a penalty.

I not trying to create a controversy...I don't care who starts. I was just trying to understand our offensive problems. We still can't score.
McCOy had some good points he could run fast and get away...very important when you get no blocking. He was able to throw on the run. He didn't cause trouble. He should get the backup role in my opinion.
How can Weeden be seen as a real improvement especially since he has no real experience? An obvious question we should all be asking. Another question is how can he succeed with very little WR help. Little is new, Masaquios never seems to run the same route and has had injuries, Mitchell hardly plays, Moore is erratic....Cribbs and Watson seem to be our best options.
We do have a better Oline assuming Schwartz can block.
Our Offensive Coordinator may help. Will our QB coach help?
This team really is not a good place for a new QB with limited experience. Sending him out to get sacked and intercepted will not help either. I can't help but think it will be just another year of regrets.

Marla Ridenour: Who’s No. 2 is Browns’ biggest question By Marla Ridenour Beacon Journal sports columnist BEREA: ‘Who’s No. 1?’ is not the burning question as the Browns wrap up organized team activities this week and break until the start of training camp in late July. First-round draft pick Brandon Weeden, the quarterback from Oklahoma State not lacking in arm strength or moxie, awaits only his official coronation. The more pressing issue is ‘Who’s No. 2?’ Contrary to popular opinion — at least among local media — I believe that should be Colt McCoy, not Seneca Wallace. Granted, my opinion of Wallace has virtually been set in stone since last season, when he showed no interest in mentoring McCoy. Wallace said Tuesday he didn’t want to give McCoy “an upper edge” when they were supposedly competing. Wallace insisted that when he was told the job was McCoy’s “I was there to help him out on whatever he needed.” That might be true. But even if Wallace thought his talents were superior to McCoy’s, his attitude doesn’t fit my perception of a team player. In 2011, Wallace skipped down the Yellow Brick Road alongside Trent Dilfer, who dissed Charlie Frye in 2005 and wanted nothing to do with an heir apparent until Derek Anderson came along. That aside, there is much to consider. Breaking it down Wallace is 31, McCoy 25. Wallace has nine years experience in the West Coast offense, McCoy one. Wallace’s base salary for 2012 is $2.4 million, McCoy’s $540,000. Wallace carries a 6-15 record as a starter in nine NFL seasons; McCoy is 6-15 in two seasons. Wallace went 0-3 in 2011, McCoy 4-9. Wallace has a stronger arm and is more mobile than McCoy. McCoy excels in shotgun and no-huddle situations. Wallace has Browns president Mike Holmgren in his corner; McCoy has virtually no one. Browns coach Pat Shurmur seemed ready to cut McCoy minutes after Weeden was drafted. Sizing up those factors, Wallace has the edge in experience, arm and mobility. McCoy is younger, cheaper and has more upside. Wallace also had the guts Tuesday to state his case to be Weeden’s backup, while McCoy stuck to the standard non-answer of “I can only control what I can control.” He even trotted that one out when asked if he would consider asking for a trade or his release if he found himself third on the depth chart. Shurmur said he could “see a scenario” in which Weeden, McCoy and Wallace were all on the roster. He could be talking about a situation in which the Browns are waiting for an injury so McCoy could be traded. No matter how long it might last, that wouldn’t set well with Wallace. He painted the picture that the locker room isn’t big enough for him and McCoy. Asked if he could handle being third-string, Wallace said, “No, not really. We all know the third guy doesn’t dress Sundays. Obviously neither one of us wants to be that third guy.” Wallace said “probably not” when asked if there is room for all three on the roster. Wallace was thinking back to Tim Couch vs. Kelly Holcomb and Brady Quinn vs. Derek Anderson, competitions decided on coach Butch Davis’ gut feeling and coach Romeo Crennel’s coin flip. Trade, cutting argument Avoiding another such mess is the essential argument for trading or cutting McCoy as soon as possible. Some believe that if Weeden struggles, McCoy’s supporters will rally to his cause just as Tim Tebow’s did in Denver last season. Some think that McCoy, who had the ego to write a book called, Growing Up Colt, and his father Brad would stoke that fire. That’s where I disagree. If Shurmur makes it clear that this season will be all about Weeden (barring injury), the situation doesn’t have to be a Couch-Holcomb or Quinn-Anderson redux. If Shurmur shows none of the waffling he displayed during Peyton Hillis’ strep throat controversy, it doesn’t have to get out of control when Weeden throws two interceptions against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Relegated to No. 2, McCoy would virtually be left to learn and grow on his own and his father would be powerless to do anything about it. For the first time in his life, McCoy would not be the star of the show, just another guy in the locker room reducing to chatting about hunting and fishing and Texas games. Some think he wouldn’t be able to cope, that he would need a fresh start in another city. I think it would be the best thing that ever happened to him. He might toughen up, lose any sense of entitlement and realize that his “It’s not all my fault” excuse won’t get him far in the NFL. Asked what would be his reaction if he were No. 2 or No. 3 this season, McCoy said, “I have not gone there in my mind. When I come out to practice, in my mind I’m the starter.” That’s an admirable approach to practice, a decent mind game when your snaps are few. But can McCoy accept the reality of being No. 2 in 2012 and not rock the boat? Even though he shook some reporters’ hands Tuesday, seemingly saying goodbye, I might be one of the few who believes he can. web page

Because he came from Seattle? I think the $2 million in cap space might put Holmy in Colts corner.. This seems like an unsubstantiated reach.

Actually his answer was that he still considers himself the starter.. now who has more guts?

Ok, why does colt need to "toughen up"? If nothing else, he has proven that he's not soft... and the entitlement comment, where in the hell does that come from? And show me where colt said it's not all my fault.. he may have said "We all need to play better" or something along those lines but show me where he blamed others...
This is weird, the douchebag that wrote this blasts colt with cheap shot after cheap shot then suggests we should keep him... what a moron.

You can go from McCoy to Weeden. You can't go from Weeden to McCoy. Talk about a mess!
So if you're not 100% sure Weeden is ready to start, you have to start McCoy.
Or you have to cut/trade McCoy if you plan to start Weeden and fear he may not be ready.
To go from Weeden back to McCoy if Weeden struggles would create an awful QB contraversy this FO desperatly wants to avoid.
As much as I hate to say it, I think Colt's days may be numbered here.
I think keeping Colt is in the best long term interest of our team as a back-up. I think it makes far more sense form the extent of a cap hit. I think it could be a long term answer to the back-up position here.
But something just doesn't seen logical to keep him here if you wish to insure that no QB contraversy arises. I'd hate to be the one to have to make this decision that's for sure.

I think that will be the bottom line anyway. I really don't see how they can keep him. If they do, he'll be gone as soon as his contract is up. I don't see that really helping us.
It would be nice if he were willing to accept the role of back-up for the long term. In a perfect world, that would be the best case scenario.
But we both know there's not much perfect about this world....

I think Colt would make a great baqckup. We3eden is old and starting to break down. Probably about next Tuesday. He could start having diminishing skills soon. Seneca would be a good backup except for his big mouth and lack of skills. All kidding aside, It could be the perfect situation for us and Colt.

McCoy's RB's were a injured Peyton Hillis, practice squad RB Chris Ogybanna(sp)and Montario Hardesty Weeden has Trent Richardson,Hardesty and a healthy Brandon Jackson
McCoy had 4 weeks to learn a new offense Weeden has a whole off season to learn a new offense
McCoy's starting WRs in 2011 were Robiskie and Massaquoi Weedens is Greg Little and Massaqiou
McCoy no Brad Childress Weeden has Brad Childress

just the truth. I wonder how many games in did Heckert and Holmgren decide McCoy was not the answer at QB? everyone forgets that Holmgren never intended for McCoy to start his 1st year. IMO 20 starts is not enough time to be able to judge a QB. But hey its Weedens time to come and give it his best. I do know H and H will give Weeden more than 20 starts to prove himself. But the one thing the Browns organization knows how to do burn through starting QB's every 2 years.

Your right,McCoy the best offensive talent around him of all the AFC North teams last. I must have imagined those 57 drops by the WR/TEs and a gameplan more vanilla than a McDonald's milkshake

Thus, if McCoy is the better QB, he should be heads and tails above Weeden, especially in drills where there is no rush, and no bump coverage. McCoy shoudl know the offense much better, given that he had 13 starts last year.
The talent right now is even for both guys. However, from almost all reports, Weeden has been far more impressive in the OTAs and camps.

Man, that's a shoddy article. Looks like the kind of work many around here would do.
Quote:

I bet a poll would show more think it should be McCoy. Then again, if you want to get people's attention, paint yourself as being in the minority so that you stand out.
Quote:

Stronger arm? Yes. More mobile? No. Faster does not equal more mobile. Quote:
McCoy excels in shotgun and no-huddle situations.
McCoy doesn't "excel" at anything, which is why he's been replaced. Quote:
But can McCoy accept the reality of being No. 2 in 2012 and not rock the boat? Even though he shook some reporters’ hands Tuesday, seemingly saying goodbye, I might be one of the few who believes he can.
I've got no problem with a writer taking a side, but Marla is circling wagons when there isn't really a threat. She's taking this approach where she thinks she's in the minority when I haven't seen any proof which would suggest McCoy would be a bad #2.
One of two things happened here. Either Marla is twisting a story to fit what she wants to write about, or she doesn't have a grasp of reality.
Frankly, I don't know which one is worse.

A couple of those things are supposition on your part, but mostly correct. We don't know if Schwartz will end up being the real deal.. Hope so, kinda looks like it from all I've read, but it's certainly not fact, YET!
It's an assumption that hardesty and Jackson are healthy. We're told they are,,., but?
Richardson was touted as the best RB in the draft. And I don't have any facts to say otherwise. but until he steps up to the plate (so to speak) we don't know what we have yet.
But those are nitpickey kinda things.. I do think Schwartz is gonna be that good, I do think that Little will be better, I do think that Josh Cooper will end up being a winner and I think that Hardesty and Jackson are healthy. But none of that is fact yet

however if you took a poll on here, and compared lets say Trent Richardson to Peyton Hillis,99.5% would say he's the better RB..Mitchell Schwartz is 10x better than Tony Pashos even as a unproven rookie. McCoy was a 3rd Rd pick thrown that was never intended to start as early as he did. and despite the offensive meltdown in 2011,McCoy went from a -3 to a +3 in TD to INT ratio. Can Weeden finish 2012 with more TDS than INTS? lets hope so.

Well If that's not a skewed stat..
He threw for 6 TDs and 9 INTS in 8 games as a rookie, when his two big wins (NO and NE) you'd be surprised to remember him throwing the ball at all...
Then "improved" to 14 TDs and 11 INTs in 13 games...
Quote:

It depends on how he starts out, if he's a little shaky, they may reel him in and it could keep his INTs down, ironically if he plays well to start out, they may let him go free, which could lead to some good offense, but more risk of turnovers...
Overall I have no idea what point you were making besides "Colt rules and Weeden sucks" or something...

that is improvement though. he went from less than a TD/game and more than an INT/game to more than a TD/game and less than an INT/game.
it's not nearly the improvement we expected, wanted, or needed, but it was improvement.
now, if we want to talk about his declining compl% (despite shorter throws) or YPA (and limited YAC - some on him, some on WRs), then we can talk about the areas where he regressed.

I'll be completely honest...
At the end of Regulation against the Jets in 2010, I thought we officially had found "our guy"
He had just "managed" out wins against NO and NE, but here he was, driving us down at the end of regulation, throwing the game tying TD, and if it werent so Chansi "I just need a few more yards" Stuckey, and Brian "This is what a dieing Manatee looks like" Robiskie, he was driving us down in OT for the win...
I have no idea what happened between then and now. He got hurt against Jax. Jake came in and reminded us of how horrible he actually can be, and suddenly the season was over...
But there was still that twinge of hope from those few games...
Bill Simmons predicted us to go 10-6 and make the playoffs based on Colt McCoy leading us, other writers said we could possibly start 7-0 based on our record and our "young and improving offense" or whatever...
And then, ya know, they actually started playing the games...
Maybe Colt's talent is locked somewhere on Moron Mountain, I don't know, but something happened, because the guy that I saw in '10, isn't the same guy I saw last season...
And now we'll likely never see either of them again...

how about having to learn a new offense in what..5 weeks? I wonder if Shurmur gave a McCoy a playbook so huge that was impossible to learn and digest? I do know this, there was regression in all facets of the offense last year. Robiskie was a bust, Massaqiou never was a factor..Hillis wasn't the same Hillis of 2010. Ben Watson became unreliable. Owen Marecic for Vickers....really?

however if you took a poll on here, and compared lets say Trent Richardson to Peyton Hillis,99.5% would say he's the better RB..Mitchell Schwartz is 10x better than Tony Pashos even as a unproven rookie.
Seriously, you wanna use a poll on here to defend a position? come on, you know better than that..

This and Kendall's reply pretty much sum it up for me, too. Who knows, maybe it's just a case of this offense doesn't fit him? But, then that begs the question - Why would we have drafted him, then... our guys are QB Gurus, right???
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

how about having to learn a new offense in what..5 weeks?
Try 5 months. Colt got the playbook in May, something that cost the Browns FO a 50k Fine.

I wonder if Shurmur gave a McCoy a playbook so huge that was impossible to learn and digest?
Oh I forgot, it's not about the QB with you, you hate the coach, so it doesn't even matter...

I do know this, there was regression in all facets of the offense last year. Robiskie was a bust, Massaqiou never was a factor..Hillis wasn't the same Hillis of 2010. Ben Watson became unreliable. Owen Marecic for Vickers....really?
MoMass and Watson were "never a factor" and "unreliable" due to the multiple concussions they withstood, which IMO part of the blame was on Colt's ball placement...
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

I agree with you about the Jets game. I really wanted Colt to succeed after that. Not sure what happened. Maybe the Anderson effect? Other teams started to figure out what it was that he did and schemed to stop it.

Stronger arm? Yes. More mobile? No. Faster does not equal more mobile.
Wallace has greater mobility. I mean I have seen Wallace use a 13 step drop on more than one occasion, yet I doubt Colt would even attempt such a feat.

I'd hate to be the one to have to make this decision that's for sure.
If they hate making the decision, they can give me a call. I'll drive up to Cleveland tomorrow to break the news to Colt.

Still going over your notes from charm school.
Has added so much.
Some people make it happen. Some watch it happen, and some wonder what happened.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

I think Colt would make a great baqckup.
I think he would make a great back-up too. But at his age, don't you think the minute his contract is up, if he gets even a chance to compete for the starting job elsewhere, he'll be gone? Then we're left with nothing.

We3eden is old and starting to break down. Probably about next Tuesday. He could start having diminishing skills soon.
He has never taken a snap in the NFL so his body has not taken the abuse you see with other 29 year old NFL players. So even though you sound like you are saying something of merrit, you're really not. Obviously you didn't like the pick so you have decided to play negative Nancy. Why am I not surprised?

Weeden is as fresh as anyone just drafted from a physical standpoint but probably has 6-8 years in him at best. Favre played until he was how old at a high level? And he took quite a bit of abuse. So considering Weeden hasn't taken hardly any punishment, your point is moot.

Seneca would be a good backup except for his big mouth and lack of skills.
So Senaca should just shut-up and eat it? Funny thing, I've never seen you lead by example in that regard.

At least he was honest. If he gets religated to third string, he's leaving. Has Colt said anything? Has Colt stated he would be willing to stay as the back-up?
At least Seneca let us know where he stands. And do you really want someone on the team that would be willing to accept third string? That would want to settle? I don't
Quote:
All kidding aside, It could be the perfect situation for us and Colt.
I just don't think Colt would be willing to settle with a long term back-up role. If he would, I do believe that would be the perfect situation. With one acception. If Weeden struggles at all, we would end up with yet another QB contraversy among the fan base and media. Something this FO wishes to avoid at all costs.
So it simply may not be in the cards for Colt here. But I really like the kid and he is a class act.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

as Jack Webb would say "just the facts". I just presented some facts thats all.
The fact is Colt can't make all of the throws with any consistancy.
They saw enough of him that based on "HIS" abilities, they had to make a decision wheather to build around Colt, or upgrade the position.
Colt simply wasn;t accurate enough nor had the arm to stop our oponents from putting eight men in the box.
So they had to move on. It had nothing to do with the supporting cast or lack there of. Colt had the burden to show he had the arm and accuracy. He didn't.
So you keep coddling him and making excuses and ignore the real truth. Seems you're quite good at that.
Colt didn't have the goods to build a team around, plain and simple. Those are the facts but you're too busy making excuses for him to accept that.
