Am I the only one here who has seen it? I just finished watching it and came away thoroughly unimpressed. The whole religion/creation/evolution bent of it all was a bit too much, the characters were so underdeveloped and gaping plot holes a-plenty. I saw it by myself, as I travel quite a bit due to my job, and there were so many times I wish I had a co-pilot to laugh at some of the ridiculous aspects of this film.

BEGIN SPOILERS!!! Like after Shaw aborts the alien fetus, yet immediately after is able to run, jump, climb and carry things. The fact that they run from the falling ship in a pretty much straight line. Hello!! Run to the side! The notion that after all of the garbage this movie spews trying to "distance" itself from the Alien series to end it with a shot of a xenomorph. All of it held together with a threadbare plot that seems thrown together to get them to the next scene in which they can show off more CGI.

I can't remember ever being more disappointed in a movie and had to really gut out the final third of it. I fought every instinct to laugh out loud numerous times and rhetorically ask questions of the action on screen, but I didn't want to be the type of moviegoer that I hate. However, I am sure that there are people out there that are happy with this movie and have no issues with it. So, if you have seen it, what are your thoughts? Am I crazy?

I read an article where Ridley Scott boiled it down to that the Space Jockeys, the beings who were the aliens, wanted to kill earthlings because Jesus Christ was a space jockey. They were mad we killed him.

That really cheapens the Alien series for me. I ignore the AvP films, three, and number four.

I really want to like this movie but it has sequel bait written all over it. I prefer films where all the questions as usually answered. Or they at least give you some hints.

I was annoyed how no one reacted to Shaw giving herself a cesarean. Then no one bothers to figure out what happened to the face hugger she bore? It makes no sense to me.

I also thought the xenomorph at the end was a waste of time.

I really want to like this movie but I was really disappointed.

I'm off to work, but when I have the time, I'll give my litany list of the stuff that really bothered me after taking a few hours to digest it and think. I could not agree with you more about how this whole thing cheapens the Alien series. Ugh...what a mess.

I was debating seeing this, but you may have saved me some money instead. I am an eye candy addict, and the trailers' effects were amazing. But I also love SF, except when people making flicks don't get it, and fail to get it right. I will be interested in this one; anybody have any good, I mean other than they had popcorn?

Honestly Bard, I sought out all information I could before seeing it. Read numerous spoiler free reviews on IMDB, read as many film critic reviews as I could find and was excited to see it. After coming away watching the film, I want to save folks the time and money. I am pretty much the same way in terms of loving intelligent sci-fi and thought provoking films. This movie, however, tries to be thought provoking and deep, but comes away clumsy and pointless. I am still in shock of how badly this trampled the Alien franchise. Imagine Steven Speilberg wanted to make a sort-of-prequel to E.T. and in the process destroyed your perceptions about what the whole magic and motives behind the little fella were. Scott has me badly wishing I hadn't seen this movie, as it has forced me to try and reconcile what Prometheus has done to a ton of the mystery and mythos of Alien. I seriously have a lot of issues, and most of them are NOT nitpicking, with almost all aspects of this film aside from the FX.

BEGIN SPOILERS

I took exception with the notion that this crew of scientists would behave in such a horribly stupid and irresponsible manner when confronted with the things they are. Taking the helmet off and possibly risking contaigons, Fifield and his inability to find his way out of the pyramid, the biologist who went with him being completely scared senseless when confronted by the dead space jockey/engineers, only to be enthralled with the live cobra alien, even going so far as to try to touch it three separate times! The crew letting Fifield back on the ship without first getting a status report, Shaw and the entire abortion scene, the notion that she can somehow become an Olympic level athelete after having invasive abdominal surgery held together with staples(!!!), The whole FATHER subplot (Yawn), having a captain that is on a trillion dollar mission that can't even fly the ship he's in charge of into another vessel, the whole running away from the falling ship, Shaw's determination to go to the home planet of the Jockeys/engineers, and finally the xenomorph appearance at the end. I know I'm missing so much more, but it was exhausting sitting in that theater trying NOT to keep track of the crap that was being flung by Scott.

Add on to all of those complaints a level of character depth usually reserved for comedies starring Dane Cook, a plot that can't decide if it is horror/philosophy/drama/action as well as the complete bludgeoning of the audience with ham fisted religion allegories and subplots. I really despised this movie. I can't state that enough. After recapping it again, I realize how badly I wish it were never made. Damn you Lindelof and Scott for ruining one of my all time favorite franchises with garbage storytelling and hackneyed directing. Damn you!

I agree that the story telling was atrocious. So many aspects are so ridiculous that I found myself just facepalming.

I am 100% sure that anyone as interested as i was in watching an aliens prequel could have undoubtedly written a better script.

With all that said...

It is visually stunning. I saw it in IMAX 3D and my jaw was agape just looking at it. It's wonderous and was well worth my $20.

If you can not laugh out loud at times and not yell "Hey stupid run that way!!!" when a gigantic vessel is careening toward them....

Then go see it.

I'm happy I saw it gigantic warts and plot holes and obvious sequel ending all included.

Great insights & thanks for the details! I am not a huge Aliens freak, but lean towards the AVP pipeline which showed some "prequel" on Mayan temples or such. I may go see it tonight just to see if I agree. But my expectations are lower now. I REFUSE to trust critics, especially the lame-a-zoids that can't grok great sci-fi and fantasy. I have gone to some panned flicks and thoroughly delighted in them. Screw some of the critics; but I trust you on this one.

It takes a tremendous amount of balls to create a film so massive in scale and propose dozens of questions, build them up, and give them an answer they don’t want to hear. They all but spit the questions back into your face, and say deal with it. It may leave some viewers in a frustrated mood towards the film, but if you realize the films true intentions, you may get the same smirk on your face that I did. They were never here to find the meaning of life; they were just here to save it. It’s highly ambiguous and the epic journey is far better than any destination it could have brought you too.
