So if you commit a crime the police or society should be able to beat you 1/2 to death?

If this is true, the mentality of just being ruthless towards criminals is an insult to Gods message of showing compassion towards others.

Should criminals be punished? Yes, but our constitution protects them from cruel or excessive punishment.

FYI crime rate has gone down, it's just the media makes you believe there is more of it now and days.

Thanks for the kind words man, i never got to meet them. Died before their teen years in the way i posted. Waiting to cross the street.....

Ask yourself honestly if he was white do you think it would of got the attention this did? There is/was some racial things working in this case there is no doubt about that. But to insinuate that i sound like a nazi skinhead is a little off based bro. I am simply stating my feelings and opinions.

And yes none of those things happend but i never said they did. I asked you how would you of felt had they happend. And the cops couldnt of had a clue if he was packing or not. He never compiled from the start. I highly doubt he allowed them to do a proper frisking.

It is what it is at this point, a part of our history, and just like with braylon edwards we dont agree on this topic. And probably never will, but its all good man. GO BROWNS!!!

There would be no repeat crime if they were allowed to beat criminals completely to death.

J/K.

Kinda.

I think that the King case was an example of police going overboard. However, I am disgusted when criminals profit financially from their criminal behavior.

I believe that a criminal, caught in the commission of a crime, (or immediately following, such as fleeing the scene) who is beaten illegally by police should be entitled to recover his medical expenses, and those who illegally beat him should be fired, but the criminal should not be entitled in any way to profit from the circumstances that he created by virtue of committing a crime.

It's a tough situation ... but my base line is that no criminal should ever profit in any way because of his criminal behavior .... regardless of what someone does to him while he is committing the crime, or fleeing from the scene of the crime.

I don't like coming off cruel towards you because I know the pain you have gone through. It is an awful feeling that I pray you NEVER experience again in your life.

Yes, if a cop beats someone, it will catch news. Maybe not a huge scale, but that was in LA.

If those events happened, more power to the cops in that situation.

King wasn't "restrained", he was beaten, profusely. It was a pathetic showing by the cops. Restraining someone involves - if necessary, knocking them down and jumping on them. How many cops were there? 15? One of them couldn't have stepped in?

The dui thing? I have - actually HAD - a grandpa die from a drunk driver, so I know the pain involved in an untimely death. I was almost 19.

The bible says to obey mans law, and also says eye for an eye.

Criminals would learn if there was more than a lame fine and slap on the wrist. Do you know how i learned growing up? I got the paddle. Do the wrong, i got my butt cracked. Guess what i never spent a single night in jail, or had a dui, or anything else other than 2 speeding tickets. Id say getting a good whooping did me good. Maybe it would have the same effect of there was a severe punishment for severe crimes.

Think I said something about public executions in a thread not long ago.

Why don't we debate the atrocities of the Roman armies while we're at it, and see if we can come to a conclusive agreement?

Those bastards. I'll get them eventually.

What we should realize is that we barely have done what Martin Luther King Jr., along with many other notable activists, asked us to do. We have failed to create a society in which we are fully integrated as a human race.

That is a pretty fair statement... depending on who you count as "we".... I assume you are counting all of the white people who still hold and practice latent discrimination... I just wonder if you are also counting all of the blacks who practice racism and have failed to take the opportunities presented to them to lift themselves out of bad situations and who still prefer to live in predominantly black neighborhoods.... or if you are talking about the Latinos and the Asians who still tend to live in neigborhoods with people of similar descent?

If you are counting everybody as "we" then I'm good with it.

That sums it up perfectly. The people pointing fingers at one side or another are the very people who keep this divide alive and well.

Racism and prejudice will exist for some time, but with each generation is lessens. As I see with younger generations there is much less concern of skin color than there was with my generation.

Racism cannot, will not ever end.

You'd have to find a Genie in a bottle to grant you a wish that every racist human being on Earth, regardless of anything, become instantly sterile at the snap of a finger. 200 years later, I'm guessing it MIGHT be all gone . . .

As Ferris Bueler once said, "-Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself."...

racism is declining... classism is rising... people have a pack mentality and they function better when they feel like they are part of a group with a common "enemy"... Politicians, by the way, fully understand this and that is why they operate and campaign in an "us vs them" mode...

Yes. Yes I do.

1. It was sensational news, and sensational news sells.
2. It was groundbreking: it was one of the very first instances of police/citizen interaction caught on tape and distributed wide.
3. It involved an acquittal of ALL accused
4. The images were violent, lurid and over-the-top for the times- heck, for ANY time.

So yeah... you damn skippy I think it would have gotten the same press.

Well it will eventually end some day, when we are all Heinz 57. It's inevitable imo.

LOL, I can still remember those words from my head DI after all theses years, they still resonate with me.
