I wanted to talk about the "It's About Damn Time" quote that he threw out.

First...I dont think Miami fans deserve it, Cavs fans packed that arena every night regardless...Miami fans are eh until the playoffs, I bet it gets worse next year.
Today hurts for Cavs fans...but I wanted to get a gauge on that quote.

Is it just me or does that sound like like more entitled arrogant behavior or is it just a poor choice of words? Or is it a good choice of words and he deserves it...is it about damn time? Or should he have given more credit to the journey.

No one deserves a title, its earned, and to say its about damn time just seems to marginalize that effort and amount of time spent earning it in just thinking he deserved it.

I really have started to respect his game this playoffs because he finally played all the time like he was able to and supposed to...and he seemed to be getting his role and his position as a basketball player...and then he says that and it just seems like hes the same conceited, over-privileged (in sport), entitled guy...I really dont care for it.

Or am i overthinking? (cept it struck me right away when he said that as "Ew, what a jerk"

I'm already on to the "who cares" phase.

When the Ravens won the damn Super Bowl, I was mad every time I thought about that for about 6 months.

I got over this one much quicker. The Heat had, by far, the best team in the NBA. They should have won the championship, this year and last. They got one this year. Oh well.

Let's go Cavs!

I thought the "This is the greatest night of my life" line was awkward...

Having just gotten Married in the offseason, and having had two(?) children being born..

Not a big deal, just something...

I turned it off when they were up by about 25 in the middle of the 4th, didn't watch the finish or the celebration or the post game interviews and I will avoid any mention of it on radio or television for as long as I can.

I'm not a basketball fan to begin with, so it was just another "meh" moment for me. Nonetheless, the Heat win just demonstrates the bizzare duplicity that exists with the NBA. On one hand, Wade, James and Bosh can get together in Miami but, somehow, Chris Paul isn't allowed to join Bryant in LA? I don't get it. If you're going to allow the inmates to run the asylum, why not let 'em all loose?

Right there with you... I watched probably a total of 10 minutes of the entire NBA playoffs this year... zero of the finals... I could care less about Miami...

here's hoping the Cavs get some help in the draft... overall the NBA kind of bores me, so I'll stick to watching the Cavs and college basketball...

The Paul to LAL trade was nixed because NO was getting nothing in return, and if I recall, giving up their pick this year...

Which "ironically" turned out to be the #1 overall...

The Hornets were getting Lamar Odom, Luis Scola, Kevin Martin, and Goran Dragic. They weren't giving up any picks.

People around here can't believe that I'm not steaming mad or bitter about the whole thing.

And I tell them "hey man, I had my football team taken away, Lebron leaving and winning a title is another day at the office, I HAD MY FOOTBALL TEAM TAKEN AWAY"

'97 was bad too, game 7 was my 16th birthday party, had a bunch of family and friends over, and I felt like the biggest A-hole when everyone left while saying pretty much nothing.

What happened last night isn't even on the radar. Seriously if people think Lebron and Art Modell did equally bad things they are out of their mind.

Art Modell took an entire culture and walked off with it. Lebron took his talents, and nobody else's to Miami.

Let's just find more ways to complain about LeBron saying and doing things.

The best player in the NBA said it's about damn time, I'm sure that's how he and about every other sports fan in America feels.

When LeBron told the world on ESPN that he was taking his talents to Miami I thought to myself, "so what?" Obviously he didn't want to come back to Cleveland and I don't want any athlete here who doesn't want to be here. I was more upset as to how he went about it, an hour long prime time "special." He made the game about himself. Screw him. I got over this real fast.

I don't think Miami deserves this either. I know when Cleveland wins a sports title we'll embrace it more.

I am not a cavs fan but Lebron has yet to win a title. The NBA and its officials gift wrapped the playoffs for them. I watched enough Miami gift wrapped games to make me never want to watch another NBA game in my life.

Yup.

Also I bet a small, probably very small part of Lebron was disappointed when they won the other night. The fans don't care, half them probably didn't start paying attention until the conference finals.

Had he done it in Cleveland, he'd have the whole doing it for himself thing, but also the legend status he would have achieved, and the fact that the night would have been incredible.

Miami is a horrible sports town that doesn't know a thing about loyalty. They have a brand new baseball stadium and can't even fill it up every night the first year. Pathetic.

You're a reasonable guy.

This was an unreasonable post.

No way, no how did any of that cross his mind.

He's being put on a pedestal so high at the moment that I can't enjoy one of my passions - sports radio. I've had to switch to music. Hopefully, that will only be another few days or so.

I agree. Only thing on his mind Thursday night was "Finally!"

I also don't care about some "about damn time" remark. When you're the best in the world and it still takes you a decade to achieve the pinnacle of your sport, then it is about damn time. I don't see it as a sense of entitlement or something that he felt was deserved. More of a "I can't believe it took me this long" sort of thing.

Say whatever you want, but dude played out of his mind all season long. And in the Finals, that team finally did the one thing that they've been unable to do in two years, and that's play as a team. Yeah, the officiating sucked. Yeah, Miami's fans suck. That doesn't change the fact that Lebron showed up in a way that he didn't in his previous two Finals appearances, that they got solid, if unspectacular, contributions from Wade and Bosh, and, probably most importantly, that three of their most important supporting cast players (Chalmers, Battier, Miller) stepped their collective game up tenfold for that series. Those three guys exceeded expectations when it mattered most for their team, and it resulted in them winning a championship. I'd said at the conclusion of the series with Boston that Lebron looked peeved that he had to throw the team on his back and carry them through the series, and I still believe that. He didn't have to do that in the Finals though.

I'm not happy at all that Miami won, and I loathe what they represent, but to say that they didn't earn it through their play on the court or to pretend that OKC was a vastly superior team who simply got robbed is just silly. The vets beat the first-timers. That's usually the way it goes in the NBA.

I totally disagree. With no reporters or cameras around him, maybe with nobody at all. I think he knew it would have been better in Cleveland. Like I said, a small part of him.

Now he's not going to admit it, and that's where him being on a pedestal and him being the typical selfish pro athlete holds true.

But deep down he knew it. Just like he knew the decision was a horrible idea, although he has several times hinted at being sorry for it.

Like I said, deep down, not through his public "i need to not show remorse" persona that he feels he has to put on.

No way, man.

When you're on your honeymoon with your wife, you're not thinking about your ex.

Maybe that thought crosses his mind at some point down the line, but I sincerely doubt he thought about it the night he won the title.

the whole comparing this situation to an actual relationship is a little ridiculous. I've heard that several times lately and quite often over the last 2 years. It's not the same.

He's not married to Miami. He's there for a few years, and I think he's out soon after.

Say what you will about the analogy, but we sure all have seemed like jilted ex's the last two years.

He'll stay there as long as they keep winning, I think.

The flip side of that, is like saying everyone should of been happy for Baltimore when they won the Superbowl...

It's most definitely not. Like I said, what Art Modell did is on a whole different level. Not comparable to me.

I honestly don't even care about that angle anymore. He doesn't own the team anymore, and they're pretty much the Bengals to me. Just another division rival. I still hate the Steelers the most and it's by a very wide margin.

If Wade continues to slope as a player, especially with bad knees, why on Earth would LBJ stay, with an opt out in a year?

I don't know where he'd go, I do think Cleveland is an option, but the guy would be a 1 maybe 2 time champion, He could go almost anywhere he wanted to.

do they have the money? You know Wade isn't going anywhere. Even though it's LBJ's team he's still loved in that town. He basically has a lifetime contract. I would lol if they sent him off after he barked about how loyal they are the day after the decision.

How would Lebron go somewhere else? Are you saying he'd try to force a trade out of Miami after next year? Or do you think he's going to opt out after year four (which is what I think you're saying, but doesn't jibe with where you said "why would he stay with an opt out in a year?")?

I don't think Pat Riley is so loyal to anybody that he'd keep them on board if he kneG it would prevent them from winning a championship, Wade included. If his health deteriorates and he becomes a liability to their title aspirations, he's gone. They'll either amnesty him (assuming they don't amnesty someone else, like Mike Miller this offseasoon), or trade him to a team looking to clear cap room with the provision that he'll opt out of his contract and become a free agent.

As much money as LBJ and Wade make in endorsements and shoe deals...

Why the heck didn't they just take 5 mil per year? (random number)

If the point was to team up to have the best team, in a league with a salary cap, wouldn't the second point be to make it easier to get even more good players?

They probably figured everyone would be scrambling to sign with them for vet minimums and MLEs to chase rings (and they're kind of right).

On a semi-related note, anyone wish that we hadn't done the sign-and-trade and forced Lebron to take the shorter, lesser deal? We didn't use the TPE, we're not going to swap picks with Miami, and the two first rounders we got from them will probably be no higher than 26, barring some bizarre set of circumstances like Wade, Lebron and Bosh all voiding their deals after 2013 to sign with Cleveland and Miami bombing in 2014-15 through 2016-17 and winning the lottery and conveying their unprotected #1 overall pick in 2017 to us.

I understand not doing a deal JUST to do it...

But maybe we should of just done SOMETHING with the Trade Exception?

Was there no one willing to dump a contract for even a late first? Seriously?

With amnesty, the value of dumpling a bad contract dropped. Some teams may have had more than one really bad contract, but most had just one that they wanted, or needed to move.

Heck, only a handful of teams have even used amnesty as far as I can tell.

http://www.nba.com/news/amnesty-tracker/index.html

This was last updated 12/2011 ....... but I don't think that anyone has used amnesty on a player since then. That means that only 6 teams or so have used their amnesty rights.

If anything, it was a self-effacing comment. He has been criticized for years for not having won it sooner, and so when he finally does win, he says "It's about damn time" ironically, with a degree of embarrassment that it has indeed taken so long. Now, why is he self-effacing in this moment? Because that is who he is, and I like him less because of it. He cares too much about what people think about him, an unfortunate character trait when you are inexperienced and unwise about public relations.

That being said, I'm glad he has finally won, and I hope he wins many more in the future.

MJ, Kobe and the like, wanted to win every title every year because they needed to be the best.

IMO, LeBron's desire to win a title is only fulfill to public's view that he should.

I predict he plays even better NOW, going forward, because all the pressure is off.

I have heard enough sour grapes on here, that if they were ripe?

We could start a winery.

But when all you have is sour grapes it becomes a whinery.

Face it.... The Cavs weren't willing to pony up and pay a supporting cast to surround James with an environment of success. He was pretty much a one man dog and pony show.

I believe to win a Championship, he had to go somewhere that would give him a solid supporting cast.

So if you want to spout out sour grapes, maybe it should be towards the person in charge of trying to get rich on LBJ without paying a good enough of a supporting cast to actually win a championship here......

But no, making LBJ the target of your anguish I guess is simply easier than looking at the core of the real situation here......

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

As has been mentioned, what about those who had an honest dscussion earlier THIS year about whether this Heat team was better than the old Cavs teams?

I'll say one thing about LBJ/Heat and I'm moving on completely - it's baseball season after all - a lot of you are better people than me.

I hate LeBron James - not for leaving, I'll never fault him for that, but for embarrassing one of "my" cities and "my" team". I'll always root for the Cavs, but I hate the NBA after what went down a couple years ago and what became clear from it. I hate ESPN. I'd very much love to get Wilbon and Gilbert in a room and see what Wilbon has to say to him then - and for Cowherd to be mauled by an angry badger in the ESPN parking lot. The only thing LeBron James deserves, imo, is for a bus bound for Cleveland to run over his foot during his victory parade. Now I'm done.

GO BUCS.

How would Lebron go somewhere else? Are you saying he'd try to force a trade out of Miami after next year? Or do you think he's going to opt out after year four (which is what I think you're saying, but doesn't jibe with where you said "why would he stay with an opt out in a year?")?

I don't think Pat Riley is so loyal to anybody that he'd keep them on board if he knew it would prevent them from winning a championship, Wade included.

I meant the opt-out. Why wouldn't you bail if this team just can't do it again?

They look great now, they're the champs. Lebron played out of his mind. But guess what? So did Dallas last year, and look what they did this year.

Hunger is a huge thing. Maybe Lebron is hungry, but what if Bosh isn''t anymore, or Mike Miller, or Shane Battier? What if they don't want to put that work in again? Next year is a full slate of 82 games again too, don't forget.

Salary cap issues, plus an unmotivated team, plus Erik Spoelstra. I could definitely see him take off when he gets the chance.

Maybe it's me, but what is up with the fake glasses thing lately? It just looks stupid.

LeBron with the flat brimmed hat and fake glasses looks like an overgrown Eurkle.
