He's a much better shooter than those guys and not even really similar at all in build to the last two, but hey they're white, busted-out bigs; so with your negative, un-elaborated blanket statement, you win!

Politicians are puppets, y'all. Let's get Geppetto!
He's kind of a tweener without a real position from everything I have read about him. He can shoot from the outside, but he isn't big to strong enough to be a PF, and isn't quick enough to be a SF in the NBA.
Still, teams seem to find roles for guys like that ...... so maybe we will too.

The league tips off for the Cavs July 15th. Those committed to playing have been listed as Kyrie Irving, Tristan Thompson, Dion Waiters, Tyler Zeller, Samardo Samuels, Alonzo Gee, and Donald Sloan. That's AV short of our entire team. Undrafted Free Agents will be brought in....my hope, Hollis Thompson and Scott Machado are among that group.
Well ... AV, Omri Casspi, Luke Walton, Luke Harangody, and Daniel Gibson short anyway.

Q: Hey, Mary: What is the Cavs' cap space for the upcoming season? Do you see the Cavs making an offer to any of the free-agent centers? -- Mike L., North Royalton A: Hey, Mike: The Cavs expect to have between $20 million and $21 million in cap space. With the drafting of Tyler Zeller, I don't think they will pursue any free-agent centers, such as Roy Hibbert or Brook Lopez, primarily because they will command too much money.
However, I checked HoopsHype , which seems to be fairly accurate on salaries, and they have the Cavaliers at $41 million in salaries, including Baron Davis' Contract that they amnestied. That should mean that it doesn't count against the cap, right? I thought that was the whole point of amnesty. If Davis' contract doesn't count, then they only have about $26 million in 2012-2013 contracts, plus the 2 rookie deals. That would put them at about $31 million in salaries and cap holds for restricted guys and rookie deals. That would leave about $30 million in available space. Anyone know where the other $9-$10 million is between the numbers I can find and the Plain Dealer's numbers? $9 million is a lot of salary room.

According to Spotrac, they have about $31million tied up, not including rookies and guys we extended qualifying offers to (Gee, Harangody, Erden). It looks like that number also doesn't include a team option for Azubiuke.

I just checked those HoopsHype numbers and Baron Davis' contract isn't factored into their figure. The number from both sites works out to a little over $37 million, not including the two rookie deals, assuming we pay the three qualifying offers and aren't matching an offer from another team.

*Aha
Guess i should have added things up for myself.

But the longer you keep him the less you're getting back.
He gets broke alot, and he's almost 30. So yeah.
Maybe in 2014/15 when we have a team option on him, we can decline it and resign him for cheaper. But by that time he's almost just a mascot for the team. And we already have Moondog.
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?
Quote: Just think if we could some how parlay AVs 9 million into something...
I love the guy, I just don't think he's going to be here by the time we're competing for a title...
Yeah, I'm coming around on this ...... but I don't want to dump him just for the sake of dumping him. I want quality for quality.

What exactly do you think we're going to get for him? He's 30, and hasn't played a half-season of ball for the last two season. Teams in the lottery range aren't going to want him because of his age. Playoff teams who need one more peice aren't going to be able to offer much in return in draft picks.
Isn't Walton's contract expiring after this season already?
Isn't trading Walton's expiring for another expiring a wash, making Varejao for the pick the only substantive part of any such deal?

Quote: 6'8" PF? Or is he ganna play SF? He's got range. But most highlights I see are just of him shooting 3's, does he do anything else?
Is he a shot in the dark or should I actually expect him on the roster this year?
Can he be worse than Casspi was last year?
I'd expect him to make the roster at the backend. He'll play mostly PF probably in smallball lineups as he can shoot from the outside, rebound and defend.
He'll take Luke Harangody's spot and be 10x better than him (so, he'll be just okay but good enough for the end of the bench unlike Luke)
I would rather keep Varejao at this point, unless I can get true value for him. I think that moving him back to PF would be best for him. He could compete with Thompson for the starting spot there. We'd have a nice 1-2 at the position.
I'm not sure who is available at C, either as a FA or RFA, that we could reasonably expect to be able to sign. Hibbert or Lopez would be tremendous, but I don't see any way their current teams let them go. Someone in an article I read brought up Asik in Chicago, but I question if he is really a worthwhile acquisition.
I also think that we desperately need a backup PG. Sloan was OK for what he was ..... but he was what he was. he was a D-Leaguer playing in the NBA. I think that we can do much better. Earl Boykins is a FA.
We could be at SG,at least if Azubuike can come all the way back from surgery to be able to play 15-20 minutes/game. Gibson can fill in between point and SG.
SF is what it is. Gee is a reasonably good player who has worked his ass off to get better. If he can take another step forward this coming year, he could be a very good player. Casspi is ..... well .... Casspi. Behind them we have ........... Walton .........
*crickets*
It would be nice if we could find someone who could push Walton and/or Casspi off the team.
I dunno. It seems like we might have made a lot of progress in the past 2 years .... but still have a significant distance to go. I keep going back and forth on where we are ..... I'm sure that we're better than last year, but we are now missing the veteran presence and leadership we had. I like the potential we have with a starting 5 of Irving,Waiters, Gee, Zeller, and Thompson, with Varejao as the next big off the bench. However, I think that we still need another scorer in order to make the next big step forward. Maybe Gee takes that next step forward and becomes that guy. Who knows? He took himself from afterthought to starter. However, his shooting percentage went down last year with more minutes/shots.
In the end ....I don't know what to think. I probably talk myself up and down more about the Cavaliers than any Cleveland team.

we're apparently in on Sonny Weems for SF (basically, he's Gee). would not be a bad SF bench guy.
Asik is not good and likely to be overpaid, Hibbert was offered the max from Portland? and big men in FA are the easiest way to regret your signing. we'll likely go to battle with TT/AV/Zeller/Erden and see what happens (and likely draft Erden's replacement next year)
i definitely agree on the backup PG priority. we'll see what happens as the bigger names need to sign first, but I would also see what Toronto wants for Jose Calderon (last year of his deal - overpriced but we have the cap room and he'd be a good backup)
y! reporting that Dwight to the Lakers talks are back on? Dwight is doing everything that he can to make LeBron's departure 2nd best, but what would the Lakers give up to make it worthwhile? I doubt they get rid of Bynum (who some think is a better fit for their team). Would Orlando really take back Pau and junk for Dwight?
According to this article they had Bynum in a deal at the deadline. Then Howard lost his mind and the trade fell through.
Quote: The Lakers had been willing to part with Bynum for Howard in March, but those talks ended when Howard decided to decline his early termination option and remain under contract through the 2012-13 season.
I don't think that I would want to trade for him. I seriously believe that there is something wrong with him.

If this guy turns out to be a Wade-type player (hopefully more durable and not such a drama queen) than our backcourt is going to be FRIGHTENING.
Teams will have to think twice about their rotations and how getting early fouls could change an entire game.
We just need that 3/wing player, preferably someone who can shoulder a big portion of the defensive load.
I can't wait to see them play. I know for sure I will be doing the NBA online thingy, hopefully they do it again, where you pay a discounted price for a few teams entire schedule.
