Clippers and Lakers are going to be fun to watch compete against each other this year.
Clippers are pretty deep. They have Paul, Bledsoe, Jamal Crawford, and Billups at guard. Griffin, Odom, and Butler at forward. With Jordan at center. Should be a fun team to watch.
The Lakers are top heavy with Kobe, Nash, Bynum, and Gasol but that is a very good top four guys. I think they might amnesty Ron Artest. They also still have Josh McRoberts and Steve Blake coming off the bench. And it looks like they might add Grant Hill too.
I think both of those teams (along with the Spurs) can at least compete with the Thunder. The West should be fun.

I think the Nash trade was great for the Lakers.
However, I don't think that gets them past OKC.
OKC is going to be so hungry next year.
I see a rematch of OKC vs. Miami with OKC coming out on top this time.
Now if the Lakers get Howard somehow, then all bets are off.

I know. That's what I said as well.
If Kobe could learn to play off the ball and shoot with a decent efficiency, pick and pops ... they could be best team in the league.
I'm not happy about that.

I'd be overjoyed if they could de-throne this year's champion.

I thought Stern and the NBA didn't want anymore superstar mega teams? I know I don't. It cheapens the aspect of a team sport. This is why I'm really starting to like the NHL a lot more than the NBA and MLB.

Just wondering why you'd lump MLB in with the NBA?
And didn't the supposed two best FA's in hockey sign together in Minnesota a day or two ago?

Minnesota will hardly be a mega-team. They have a chance to be very good, but this isn't the return of the 80's Oilers.

I did for different reasons. MLB has the white elephant in the room of no salary cap. Sure, sabermetrics sort of works but ultimately it hasn't stopped the big markets from getting the big stars.
The NHL is one of those sports where pretty much everyone on the team gets a decent amount of playing time. It's one of the best team sports out there today.

I'm gonna guess that the 80's Oilers were pretty good, but I don't think that matters here - two free agents, supposedly the best free agents of the off season, sign the same deals on the same day to play for one team - that's very NBAish is all I'm saying.

anyone else find it sort of funny that a team that had Lowry, Dragic, Flynn and J.Lin last year at this time now has Earl Boykins as it's most accomplished PG?

For a team thats made a lot of moves...
They really haven't done anything to make themselves better...

Brandon Roy is apparently joining Minnesota.
If Rubio is healthy, and Roy is somewhat himself, that could be a fun team.

They were already fun without Roy. Love and Rubio are two of the best guys to watch.

Still have to find out what Dion Waiters can do at the NBA level, but if healthy, that team is probably right between the 7/8 seed and the last 2 or 3 teams out of the playoffs.
Just not enough scoring in that front court, and the outside shooting is not nearly good enough at the NBA level.

gaping hole at SF, mediocre frontcourt.

I think we again pick in the top 10 of the lottery next year with once again having MAJOR trade talks trying to jump up and land a starting caliber SF (at this point it is too early to tell who that person could be). If Kyrie has to miss games again, we could be looking at one more year in the top 5 (which I wouldn't be so disappointed in seeing). I believe we have Miami's first round (which will prolly be in the 25-30 range) as well as (I believe) two second rounders??? If a Zeller type drops next year, I could easily see us trading up again like we did this year to take in 2 more rookies to add to this young core we are building. Let's hope Sacramento can make a run for that 8th seed this year...that would help speed up the process just a bit!

If Kyrie goes down, all bets are off, this could be a top 3 or 4 lotto team again.
It all depends on what you get from Waiters.

Even with him they might be in that spot in the lottery. And they are probably better off having finishing that low.

Doesn't matter. They'll screw it up anyway.
Unless there's an obvious #1 overall pick (LeBron/Kyrie Irving), the Cavs will screw it up.
#4 - Tristan Thompson #30 - Christian Eyenga #19 - JJ Hickson #25 - Shannon Brown #10 - Luke Jackson #6 - Dajuan Wagner #8 - DeSagana Diop #20 - Brendan Haywood #8 - Jamal Crawford #8 - Andre Miller #11 - Trajon Langdon
You see where I'm going with this lol.

Andre Miller? Really? How can that be viewed as a bad pick?

the Booze was a good pick.
Kapono was a dud. I wanted Korver, but he turned out to only be marginally better.
Danny Green was a good pick.

Who should the Cavaliers have taken instead of Thompson?
Hickson was a 19th overall pick. He was a pretty good player physically, but his head's a mess. There might have been a better pick or 2 ..... but it's hard to argue with him, especially when we still might get a 1st round pick back for him.
Andre Milller's had a 13 year career so far. Hardly a "lol" pick.
Jamal Crawford was traded on draft day. Regardless, he's played 12 years so far. The Cavaliers traded him in the Chris Mihm deal. Mihm played 10 years in the NBA.
Eyenga was a "stash overseas" guy because we really couldn't use him with all of the guaranteed contracts we accumulated around James.
I don't know what you expect from the 25th pick in the NBA draft. Those guys are very often one and done.
Let's look at some other #8 picks for some clarity .......
2002: Chris Wilcox. 5 or 6 teams in a 10 year career. A bounce around kinda guy. 2003: TJ Ford. On his 4th team. 2004: Rafael Araujo. Stat Page: "Given Player Cannot Be Found" 2005: Channing Frye. 3 teams in his career so far. Nothing of consequence. 2006: Rudy Gay. Very good player who has spent his entire career with Memphis. 2007: Brandon Wright. Bounced around more than a basketball.
There really are few sure things in an NBA draft after the top couple of picks.

Ray Allen to Miami.
Allen may be old and not the same player he was, but he is a perfect fit in Miami.
The Heat just got better.

Projection for team USA:
PG: Chris Paul / Deron Williams / Russell Westbrook SG: Kobe Bryant / Andre Iguodala / James Harden SF: Kevin Durant / Carmelo Anthony PF: LeBron James / Kevin Love C: Tyson Chandler / Blake Griffin
Gay (too repetitive with Durant and Carmelo), Gordon (injured all season), and Davis (injured now and has never played in the NBA) miss the cut.

Back to Cavs related stuff .... and since the team just lost Erden (big deal) back to Turkey ....... I wonder if they might take a shot in the dark on Greg Oden. He could probably be had for the mid level exemption, and as the 2nd/3rd Center, he could work his way in without having to play a major part on the team. Could be a fairly low risk/high reward type of deal.
I have also read some rumblings that the Timberwolves may be willing to part with Derrick Williams because he doesn't have a true position in the NBA. I wonder if any of that is true? I'd definitely take a shot on him and see if Scott can work some of his magic. They reportedly have thrown his name into several trade talks.
One other name I would toss into the mix is a guy we had .... but who may have had issues with another (star) player ..... and that name is Delonte West. He's got a decent mid range jumper, is a solid defender, and would look good behind Waiters.
Any other out of the usual potential signings you guys like?

Would you trade, for example, the pick we may, or may not get from the Hickson trade for him?
I think I'd take that chance.

I'm wondering if Williams doesn't have a position or if they are just overloaded with guys like him on their roster. And now they're trying to sign Batum from Portland. They have Budinger, Johnson, and Martell Webster on the roster. And Williams surely isn't going to play over Love. I'd use Williams as a sixth man.
As for Oden, I read that he wants to take a year off and rehab on his own without a team telling him what to do. Then he wants to sign after the season is over. If I was any team and he was willing to take a low salary I would take a chance on him. Worst case is that he is a bench player making a mid-level salary. Best cast is he somehow makes it back and becomes Mutumbo 2.0. Most likely case, he comes back and is a serviceable big man off the bench.

That's a pretty amazing team from top to bottom. A little small. But extremely skilled.
I know it's taboo, but I'm wondering how a game with the original Dream Team and this team would play out. If Bird and Magic were in their primes, I wouldn't even be asking the question. But they weren't.
Obviously, the overall talent at 4 and 5 for the original Dream Team blows this one away. They would probably just feed the ball inside all day long.
Just a thought that crossed my mind when I saw the lineup. It's pretty impressive in terms of great skill players.

Apparently the Nets are offering MarShon Brooks to whoever agrees to help facilitate the deal and take on Kris Humphries. I have read the Cavs are involved and 11 players total
Brooklyn receives: ~ Dwight Howard (Via Orlando)
Cleveland receives: ~ MarShon Brooks (Via Brooklyn) ~ Kris Humphries (Via Brooklyn) ~ Hedo Turkoglu (Via Orlando) ~ Chris Duhon (Via Orlando) ~ Kyle O'Quinn (Via Orlando) ~ Rights to Ilkan Karaman (Via Brooklyn)
Orlando receives: ~ Brook Lopez (Via Brooklyn) ~ Anderson Varejo (Via Cleveland) ~ Luke Walton (Via Cleveland) ~ Luke Harangody (Via Cleveland) ~ 2013, 2015, 2017 first round picks (Via Brooklyn)
