Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio has a report out there somehwere that says Bynum has Cleveland on his short list because he would love the idea of playing for coach Scott and Kyrie Irving. Honestly what big man wouldn't want to play with a good point guard that can get to the hole? It opens up so much freedom for you as a player.
I know Bynum has his injury problems, and they are legitimate, but if you have a chance to acquire a talent like that, at his age? You do it. If they pull this off and Bynum just can't stay out of the trainer's room, I couldn't fault the Cavs. There's just too much potential with him.
If this does happen, which is still probably less than 50/50, but if it did, honestly if they could just find a sniper, this is a good little team for 2012-2013. No title contender, but worth a watch every single night.

likely need to add one more 1st rounder + take back big contracts
(note: I didn't say bad contracts. I think the Glen Davis contract is actually a fair value and gives us a very good frontcourt rotation. Jason Richardson is past his glory days, but we do need another SG)

So 3 first-round picks, 2 second-round picks, 1 talented big man who puts forth good effort, and absorbing 2 large contracts in exchange for 1 player?
Eesh. The NBA is crazy.

the contracts are Glen Davis (actually a reasonable deal. he's a good rotational big man) and Jason Richardson (glory days well gone, but he can hit 3pt shots and we need another SG).
and yeah, basketball turns on stars. Having Irving+Bynum means that Waiters/TT/Zeller/GlenDavis all can be complementary guys. It's huge.
PG: Irving, Sloan SG: Waiters, Richardson SF: Gee, Casspi PF: TT / G.Davis C: Bynum / Zeller / Samuels
We need a backup PG and something better at SF (and time), but that is one heck of a team. Especially when you consider the rest of the East (outside Miami).

I also want to point out that this trade would not only make the Cavs the 2nd best team in the East, but it would also make the Lakers the odds-on favorite for the title.
So, it would give the Heat a bigger obstacle to cross in the East AND from the West (and the fact that it's us being the Eastern obstacle).
Gotta like that.

On CBS Sports site, they suggest that the Cavaliers could trade picks, plus Varejao, Thompson and/or Waiters.
That would be moronic and idiotic.
I would give up Varejao and picks. Hell, I'd give up the 1 or probably even both Heat first rounders and 2 second rounders from upcoming drafts ..... but I wouldn't give up any of our young players. I like the way this team is being built, ad I want to see them grow up together.

I agree with that, and as I said before, Cavs have all the power. They can walk away from this at anytime with no regrets and no urgency to do anything.
I'm all for trading Andy, some picks, and absorbing another contract to get Bynum, but no way do I start packaging young guys that we have drafted through this rebuild. Regardless of what they may or may not become, it's just bad business for the Cavs.

I agree 100%.
The good thing is that I believe that Grant believes the same thing too.

I think you guys are nuts. If Bynum is willing to sign an extension (and yeah, that's a BIG IF), then you do this trade in a heartbeat.
we get Bynum and we're arguing about Tristan Thompson?!? (kobe reference)
now, like I said, taking back the big contracts, I want a say in which ones we get. we get the better ones(G.Davis, J.Richardson), LAL gets the worthless ones (Q.Richardson, C.Duhon).
---------------------
also, we can't trade Waiters until 30 days after the draft. Houston has 3 draft picks to trade as well and the idea was they were waiting those 30 days so they could increase their trade to Orlando.

you never know.
he apparently was grumpy that Kobe and Pau were getting so many more shots than him (23-16-13). he'd be getting more shots here.
he seems like a pretty simple guy. he wants his money, he wants his stats, and he wants to be loved. he was only getting 1 of those in LA. i don't know that he'd re-sign here, but if he agreed now, I'd take my chances he'd want to prove why he wanted those touches.

Oh, I agree. Nothing against Tristan Thompson, but I don't see him ever putting up the numbers Bynum could. This guy was the 3rd option last year, and still averaged 19 and 12. He could average 20-23 pts no problem. How many times a year are the cavs going to able to sign the talent of a Bynum? If he's willing to sign the extension you trade for him.

I only ask because if he's all-in, I'd do it and throw TT in if I had to. But his history doesn't give me warm-and-fuzzies. It's a lot to give up for someone who seems more-likely-than-not just to mail it in.

Source: Lakers add Antawn Jamison By Dave McMenamin | ESPNLosAngeles.com http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/story...s-one-year-dealVeteran forward Antawn Jamison will sign a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to a league source. Jamison, 36, averaged 17.2 points and 6.3 rebounds last year for Cleveland in his 14th season in the league, but he shot a career-low 40.3 percent from the field. He was acquired by the Cavaliers via trade in 2009-10, the last season Lakers coach Mike Brown was at the helm for the Cavs. The Lakers were in competition with several other teams for Jamison's services, including Brooklyn, Golden State and Charlotte.

If you are offering him a long term deal worth 8 figures a year then he is going to tell you whatever you want to hear. Players that take games off or even plays off generally do not have total control over it, its usually something much more subconscious.... I don't really care what he tells us he's going to do, I would expect him to play very much the same way he always has... if you are happy with that, then sign him.

LINKY LAS VEGAS -- The NBA Board of Governors approved a new look for uniforms and a couple of changes in the use of video replay, commissioner David Stern announced Thursday night.
Stern met with the media after the Board of Governors held their annual summer meeting, and said the league is looking to add possibly $100 million in revenue by permitting small advertising patches on uniforms starting in the 2013-14 season.
"The view is that the teams would need a significant time; one, to sell the patch; and number two, for adidas to manufacture the uniforms, because the patch that would be on the players' uniforms would also appear on the jerseys at retail," said deputy commissioner Adam Silver, who is handling the uniform change.
Silver said there are revenue projections from European soccer teams the NBA could use. So get ready to see ads on all the NBA uniforms (on the court and in the store). The Cavs could have a John Deere patch, the Lakers a Diet Coke patch & the Heat would most likely have a Massengill Douche patch. This is what's interesting, the NBA is going to copy the Euro soccer leagues to add this stream of ad revenue but an important point is missing....they have this revenue stream because there are NO commercials during the game (outside of halftime). I'm sure the NBA won't scale back the 345+ commerical interuptions during average game to offset this ad patch. It's hard to get through an NBA as is (and NFL games too). Here comes more advertising! And people ask me why I started watching the EPL a few years ago. It's nice to watch a sport and not be eye-raped every .5 seconds with a commerical.

Basketball meets NASCAR. So what do you do if you are a proud employee of Chevrolet and Ford has a big logo on the Piston's jersey you want?

Rip it off and patch it over with something Chevy. Win-win.

You mean the league where literally every team has ads plastered on the front of their jerseys and no logo?

Yes & No. Yes, they have ads on their torso....but they have theor logos over their left chest (smaller than the ad).
Most of the camera angles during play are wide, so you can't see the ads on the jerseys. And like I said, they play two 45+ minute halves with no commerical breaks outside of halftime. That's practically nothing compared to what the NBA will be (ads on the jerseys AND commerical breaks every 3 minutes of play).
In terms of watching a sporting even without being constantly interupted with ads, the EPL is a lot better.

I agree with everything you said.
Wouldn't you say that during play the ads on the jerseys will be pretty much meaningless in the NBA as well?
(Side note: I have also begun to get into the EPL and enjoy it very much. Especially the 45 minutes of uninterrupted play.)

I mean, he's an alright poster and all, but I don't know if I'd buy a jersey with no_logo on the front of it...

So, what sponsorship should the Cavs go for? If they keep it local, then GLB is a fine choice IMO.
Also, I fully expect the Rockets to have a bunch of Chinese ad's on their jerseys now.

10 years ago I would have never thought I'd be this much into soccer, but I have gotten into it. EPL, Wold Cup, Euros, etc.. Once you kind of understand how it works, and how the play builds up to the exciting moments, it's very enjoyable.

That's 100% right. But the argument has always been:
NBA Fan = "our jerseys don't have ads, but we have a ton of commericals" EPL Fan = "our jerseys have one huge ad but we don't have any commercials"
But now, the NBA will have both. The new patch ads aren't going to distract me, especially since I don't watch the NBA, but that was always the debate (or at least how I heard it).
I suppose it will only be a matter of time before the NHL and possibly the NFL and MLB too. Something tells me MLB will be the last, if they ever adopt it. It's going to be hard for them to not, they'll see the NBA pulling in X more millions and want that money too.

I think ads on jerseys in the NBA would be huge.
Think about how much down time there is during a game? Close up shots during timeouts, during free throws. How about when a guy makes a shot and they have that semi-close up of him going down the floor?
I'm honestly surprised it took them this long to get on that.
How long until it's mandated that teams change jerseys in the final 2 minutes of the game for companies that paid double for those ads? the final 2 minutes take a half hour, and it's the time of the game that is most watched.

I'm still wondering what they are going to do to prevent conflicts... if a guy has a contract to endorse Buick and his team is sponsored by Ford, is Buick going to let him wear this big Ford logo on his jersey? Or Gatorade and Vitamin Water or Coke and Pepsi

That already exists I assume. Who makes the NBA jerseys? Reebok, Nike? Each NBA player has their own shoe contract and still has to wear the jersey with the manufacturer's logo on it somewhere.
You would probably not see a Nike patch on a Reebok made jersey....or a Powerade patch on a jersey when the NBA is pro-Gatorade.
But really, at some point it won't even matter...there are already so many sponsors it's going to be impossible to follow. Does anyone really disect the ads stickers on a NASCAR or drivers suit?

Kinda back on Basketball, and the Cavaliers: Cavaliers coach Byron Scott says he knows Andrew Bynum, but he is not close friends with the L.A. Lakers center | cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2012/07/cavaliers_coach_byron_scott_sa.htmlCavs pick up Leuer: The Cavs claimed Jon Leuer off waivers. Leuer was a second-round pick by Milwaukee in the 2011 draft. The 6-10, 228-pound forward averaged 4.7 points and 2.6 rebounds in 46 games for the Bucks last season. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am putting this first, because I seem to recall that this kid was pretty decent in college. Then the other part is about Scott really not knowing Bynum at all. This whole Bynum trade stuff seems like a lot of conjecture without much basis in fact. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Byron Scott was as surprised as anyone to read that he has a close relationship with Lakers center Andrew Bynum. "I don't know who wrote that, but I've read that as well," Scott said Friday in a telephone interview from Las Vegas, where the Cavaliers finished summer league with a 3-2 record after a 98-64 victory over New York. "No, we're not very close. We're not very close at all." With rumors swirling about Bynum coming to Cleveland as part of a three-way deal that would send Dwight Howard to the Lakers and Anderson Varejao and draft picks to Orlando, one of the reasons Bynum supposedly was interested in joining the Cavs was his close relationship to Scott. That relationship was news to Scott and more proof that the trade is more rumor than fact. "I know Andrew, and I've seen him in L.A. on a number of occasions," Scott said. "We've talked briefly on almost every one of those occasions. I think he does have respect for me and what I've done in that Laker uniform and probably what I've done as a coach. But as far as having a very close relationship, I don't know who wrote that, but, no, that's not the case." Bynum's agent, David Lee, said on Thursday that he had not spoken to the Cavs about Bynum and said he couldn't imagine any team trading for his client without having that discussion first.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
