So I'm looking for some help (and since it's slow on here)....I'm getting another tattoo in a few weeks but can't decide which one of three designs to do. It's a big choice since its going to be there forever, obviously. I currently have a Spider-man on my right upper arm (in color). I was the biggest Spider-man fan when I was a kid and still dress up like him for every Halloween. I also put the initials of my cousin in a web above it. He passed away last year because a drunk idiot T-boned him in Parma over Easter. I'm not getting a Browns/Cavs/Indians tattoo until they win a title (just something I told myself a long time ago). And this is the area that ChristyK can quote and say, "ha ha ha, looks like you'll never be getting one of those then."  Anyway, I'm stuck deciding on these three concepts for my left upper arm: 1. The black costumed Spider-man with a city skyline, clouds and moon behind him ( Black Costume Spidey ) 2. A Japanese styled dragon. The dragon is the equilivant of my zodiac symbol and a very classic looking tattoo. Something like this Link1 or this Link2. In black n' grey. 3. Since I'm big into snowboarding and skateboarding, something that combines the two into one design. Half ramp/half moutain and half snow/skate board. I don't know. Any thoughts? Am I stupid for getting two Spidey tattoo's? You have any ideas I can bat around?

Well,I'll give you my opinion,but that's all it is. But it does come from experience. Each of my tatoos,I wanted for years. They were in my mind and of special signifigance. Something that represented the thoughts I live by and sentiment I hold. And I don't mean this to be judgemental. And I don't mean to be rude or snooty in any way. But in all seriousness,I would never get a tatoo that I had to get opnions on to help me make my final decision on. I really hope you don't take offense to that,because it's not intended that way at all. But I would have my mind made up. And I would know the one that represented me the best and had a meaning and a symbol that you could live by for a lifetime. I guess I'm saying that,when I got mine,nobody could have changed my mind,nor would I have wanted or considered anyone elses opinion on mine. That's just how certain I was and what convinced me to get them. And I waited for five years without ever waivering in wanting those exact same tatoos,before I ever got them. On the other hand,I know several people who got their tatoos without as much thought and desire over a period of time,that many times ended up regreting the one's they got. I'm not saying it won't work out well for you. And you gotta do whatever you think you should. I'm just throwing that out there for you to possibly consider. Because like you said,"they are forever". So you must always ask yourself "How will this look when I'm 65?" If you can live with that?  JMHO And good look with what ever you decide.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Well pick something that you won't mind having later in life. I do like the dragon idea, especially in black and grey, both my tattoo's are black and grey and I like it more than color ones.

j/c. Get something that means something to you, or something that is really special. Don't get something fad-ish, like say, a Snoopy Joe Cool, one.  And don't get something straight out of a book. You can get ideas from the book, but ask him to change it a little to suit YOU. You're uniquie, you need a tat to match!

If you want my opinion, don't get one, or another. Tattoos suck, they hurt, and why ruin your body? People covered in tattoos like Ryan Tucker just make me shake my head.....

It hurts, but it's an expirience. It's not for everybody, but for some people, it's an art form. It's an outlet for self expression. It has deep meaning for some people. In some cultures it's very spiritual.
I have three myself, and each time I look at them, I think good thoughts. They're reminders and memorials to special people in my life and reflections of my personallity.
Yes, there are other ways to do those things, but I chose tats and I don't regret it.

I agree with Pit, damn it hurts just saying that, but it needs to be something YOU are sure of, not anyone else, or anyones opinion. You need to be totally committed to the design you want before you ever get there, and you should decide on it, and then give it time, weeks or months, and think about it, and if you ever have doubt, try another.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

Well, I see what you mean OnB, as like I see some fathers or mothers that have their kids intials on there arms, and I can understand that, but people that have playboy bunny or obnoxicous things all over there arms that I just don't understand. I mean why do that lind of stuff? I mean you will regret it, I mean how will it look if your whole body is covered in tattoos when your 80 years old????

I know what you mean... when people get older. I saw this man who had to be over 60. They were all over his head and everywhere! It was a little gross. I'm pretty sure he was homeless too.
I have small ones in very hideable places. I've always said that if you're going to get one that goes up the side of your neck, or anything like that, you might at well have it spell out "UNEMPLOYED".

Pit, I totally agree with you. Thing is, I've been thinking about these things for a long time. And I want them all. I guess my post came off too "should I get one?" or "what should I get?". I didn't clarify my question correctly, I was asking for help deciding what would look best on my upper left arm.
I still want a 2nd Spidey.
I want a dragon
I want something with skateboarding/snowboarding
I want something for the Red Hot Chili Peppers too (been "my band" since 1988 - still my favorite)
I guess it was more a stylistic question.

I've always wanted a tatoo, but will probably procrastinate about it until it's too late. Something Browns, something to do with massage, or a dartboard. Those have always been my top three choices.

Yesterday wasn't one of those days.  ...I was rooting for UK. Always fun seeing a #1 seed lose. Kansas is everyones obviously winner so I can root against them easily.

Since I'm a bit of a comic book geek, I'd go with the black Spider-man to balance out the traditional costume.
I have one tattoo on my left upper arm, which can be easily hidden by wearing a shirt, and I have not once regreted getting it. In fact, I've been thinking of getting another someday- I just have to find that "special something" that I want to have on my body for the rest of my life.
All I can say is make sure it's what you want.

Like everyone else has said, make sure you get something that means alot to you. For example, ever since I have been a little kid, the only real interest I've ever had in my life is sports, so I got a UK tattoo on my upper left arm, and I'm going back to get a Browns tattoo on my calf, close to my ankle. Also, make sure anything you get can be easily covered up. I decided to get mine where I did so I could cover it up with a t-shirt, and my Browns tattoo will be able to be covered up with just long pants

Yeah, I'm in the IT industry and can't go walking around with tat's on my neck or forearm's. So that's out.
Oh yes, I'm totally committed to getting the ones above. I'm just torn on what which one to put on my upper left arm. The others will end up finding a place elsewhere on my body.

I'll take a guess Pit. I reckon you got Betty Boo on your right forearm.
As for me, I got 4. All black, 2 tribal and 2 celtic. As for the pain factor, it changes drastically depending on where it's done. The one on my back was fine, the one on my chest....well....they had to scrape me off the ceiling when that one was over. Ouch.

Well, I only have the one on my upper arm and it didn't hurt that bad. If I had a pillow, I could have really relaxed myself (not to sleep but close). I hear that's the easiest place to get one anyway.

This line of thinking has always made me laugh. How will my tattoo'd body look at 80? Probably as bad as it would without the ink... Have you ever seen an 80 year old naked? (as a nurse I have, it ain't pretty, tattos or not)Has it ever been attractive to be 80? Who at 80 are you trying to impress with your looks?
Personally I have three tattos that have come togther as one on my left upper chest and shoulder. They represent my heritage, an Iroquois tribal image found on some ancient pottery, my beliefs/faith, an image of God's hand touching Adam's from the Sistene Chapel painting of The Creation of Man by Michaelangelo, and my years of life on the road as a Deadhead, a tribal peice from the album art of Live Dead. Each holds a lot of meaning to me as it tells of my life's journey. I have plans of adding a Water Bird, a native american symbol found in religious ceremonial images. I'm also looking for an image of a turtle, an animal totem found amongst the Iriquois. One that speeks to me on a deeper level than the other animal totems for what ever reason.
I can't image myself with out my ink. It's part of who I am.

Tattoos don't hurt.....getting one done may hurt a tad, but the finished tattoo doesn't hurt unless you go to the Cleveland Clinic to get one and you get a staph infection! 
Being covered with tattoos is one thing, but if a person wants a memento on his/her body for whatever reason, then so be it. They can be done in very good taste.....I've wanted to get one for a long time, but never was able to decide on what I wanted permanently affixed on my body.
I've finally decided, and will share it here in the very near future when I do!

I left part of myself on the table the day I got my chest tattoo. I can't describe in words what that experience was like. I'm a thin guy... that needle struck rib and collar bone on more than one occassion. With my other ink I was always able to find "a happy place" in my head to go to while the work was being done. No such place during my chest. The pain hunted me down in every corner I tried to hide. A relentless three hours of sweating through it.

I sweat through a heavy blanket to the point that there was actually a small pool of my sweat left after they took the blanket off the table. BRUTAL! I'd go do it all over again if needed. Thank goodness it's not.

I know that feeling. I have 9 tattoos. Each has a special meaning to me. One that I have and would like covered up is the one that hurt the most for me. It starts just below my knee on my shin and goes down to the top of my ankle. Dude got paid extra to make it hurt. Made it thru the top half of the tat and told him he had to stop. I stood up, knelt down and 30 minutes later I was back with the more coherent folks than myself. They were tripping out because apparently I was speaking a different language than English. I was ready for more and they said it would be about an hour at least before he was ready to finish the tattoo.

Funny as it seems................I got my tatto in the UK!
Glasglow Scotland it was in 1975..............my first duty station as a Sailor.........it is a U.S. flag on my forearm with some navy ships in an ocean scene and my name Terry!
I have never had the desire to get another one since.................I have had a few nice compliments about my tat..............but no desire to get another one!
It was just one of them navy things!
I would recommend it more then a body piercing...............just feel that could do some serious damage to certain areas of the body!

Get a browns tat. I mean it's forever and you'll be a Browns Fan forever,,makes sense.
I am getting 2 more sometime when I have the money of the names of my girls over my heart. There the most special things in my life so I deff want to do that. Not sure exact design yet cause I don't wanna just have their names but add something to it.

On a serious note, Pit is absolutely correct. You gotta get something that speaks to you, is you and you are certain isn't just 'spur of the moment'.
If Spidey is your thing and has always been your thing, I don't see why more than one Spidey should even be considered an issue.
Hell, combine all three of the ideas and have Spidey surfing/snowboarding down the back of the Dragon.
I got both of mine spur of the moment, but when I chose mine (both were picked from the sample pics that hang on the walls) they spoke to me and represented who I perceived myself to be or how I felt at the time.... and I've never regretted them for a second. They are a part of my history and to me that is what any new one should be (in my opinion) as that is what they all become, in a sense.
Either way, get something that is You.
