I have a Butch Davis signed football with a letter of authenticity from the Browns. Back when they had the "Ask the Coach" show with Davis, they picked my question for him to answer on the show, so I got an autographed, game used ball.

I would never pay for an autograph. Ever. But, I'm one that likes to have my picture taken with a celeb. To each their own.
I'd also never sell an autographed item - and many do, so I see the athlete's side of it as well.
But, if they charge for an autograph - they won't be signing for me.
Perhaps I should charge Browns players for me showing up at games?

Ah, you didn't understand the abbreviation. No problem.
What I meant was "celebrity"......or, sports star.
Celeb - the way I used it - did not mean "celibate"

I stood in line to get Bob Feller's autograph for about an hour and then the old man hassled me because I didn't give him a regulation MLB ball. I bought a $2 baseball from Kmart....some AAA ball or high school ball.
Anyway, he said in a very curmudgeonly tone, "What is this? This isn't even a real ball son. You waited that long for me to sign this? You might want to get a different one."
All I said, "Well, all I wanted was your autograph, I didn't think the ball mattered."
I ended up drilling a hole in the ball and using it as my stick shift knob for a summer. I was going to throw it away to spite him, but I didn't want to waste the $2. From that day on, I never asked for another autograph (and I never will*).
*ok, maybe if I saw Jesus, but that's it.

Reminds me of a Wu-Tang Clan show that I was at...after teh show they announced that they wanted to stick around afterward to party with all of us in attendance....and the crowd went nuts...then they said they would be also signing autographs and posing for photos for only $35.00 a photo, $15.00 and autograph...
Worst part about it was the amount of people willing to pay for a photo op...then probably pass it off like they were "hanging out," with the Wu-Tang Clan....
On a side note, Ghostface is still one of my favorite rappers.....
I wish to wash my Irish wristwatch......

Do you get certificates of authenticity with the autographs? (I mean in general)
I have heard that there is a HUGE market in forgeries and fakes.
The ones I get in person NO, many of the ones I have purchased yes, the other ones I have purchased no, but I check those out very well. It's not hard to find several other images of somebody's signature and study it well to make sure the signatures match.

I should add ..... I wouldn't spend $150 for anyone's autograph.
I have. I have every Browns hall of Famers Autograph on helmets, except for Paul Brown and Len Ford, but I have several other Paul Browns autographs and you don't want to know what my Len Ford autograph cost Im up to about 60 autographed helmets, and almost 2 dozen autographed or game worn jerseys. Plus game worn shoes, pants, socks, photo's, etc, etc, etc.
My wife would probably kill me but would love to bid on this item
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cleveland-Browns...9#ht_590wt_1164
or this one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1957-Cleveland-B...7#ht_3244wt_930
I have a half a dozen football, but I don't prefer them. he signatures will fade over time, and the balls can deflate. Thats why I prefer the helmets and keep them in UV protected cases.

Ditto, you will never see any of my Browns stuff for sale, my kids won't even sell it after I'm gone. They have both told me they would like to keep everything because it reminds them of me
