Makes you understand why we took a shot.

He may not be any of that, but seeing where we are, we need to take some shots.

It's easy to say I told you so. It's hard to bet on the inside straight......but so sweet if it works. No complaints here if it doesn't pan out. Sooner or later we have to make some moves. Sooner is better.

I don't want to compare him to anyone because, he hasn't played enough to earn any type of comparison. I do however find it interesting in most of his highlights, he is running away from the DB or has already ran away from him and coasting. 4.5 speed is a falsehood with those big receivers.

Kid has a ton of potential at an area that we needed a huge upgrade - I'm not surprised at all we took him.

Adam Schefter said Gordon is a faster Brandon Marshall.

I think I'd be content if he was just a single polar Brandon Marshall...

Genuine LOL.

I just hope Gordon can catch the ball with some regularity and get some yards in the process.

He better because according to that other article, the Browns receivers not named Little have to come up with 2700 yards of receptions... it has to come from somewhere.

Trent Richardson is going to have 2000yds rushing + 2500yds receiving. take it to the bank

In all honesty, I think you can look at Little (best case scenario) to see what we will be getting.

The kid has a year out of football and will be rusty in game situations. I think we'll see vast improvement from Little this year and the same goes for Gordon next year.

But I don't think it's realistic to think a kid a year removed from football will be lighting things up.

Of course we all hope for the best, but if the kid can get 800 yards receiving and pose a threat on one side of the field, it will be a vast improvement over what we've had for a long time.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

If we get 61 catches for 709 yards and 2td's from Gordon this year (Little's stats from last year), I'll probably pull something from all of the cartwheels i'll be doing.

LOL.

How about 41 receptions and 709 total yards (17.2 yards/reception ) with 4 TD's?

No Little's stats are correct ... my key point was the yards / reception.

Mr. under [Little] and Mr. over [Gordon] was my MO.

Just Clicking

I don't want to start a whole thread on this question.. I already know I'm gonna get my head beat in.

But, if Braylon Edwards is healthy now and we could be assured his head is on straight, would anyone mind if they brought him back for a year?

Just asking because I just noticed he isn't signed by anyone that I can find....

Just thinking out loud here, but him, Little and Gordon,,, that could be fairly formidable if BE has anything left in the tank...

I live in New York.
When Edwards came here He would bash the Browns every chance he got.
They would ask him about the up coming game and he comment on how is new team is soo much better than his old one. Sanchez was afraid to throw to him.

NFL exec: Gordon brings 'Randy Moss-like talents' to Browns

Before we compare him to Randy Moss, it'd probably be good for him to put on some pads with us and at least prove he's more than Randy Quaid.

I like the potential I hear about with him, but the offseason hype machine can be a bit much at times.

2nd round WR's don't always pan out, but at least we seemed to have reversed the trend starting with Greg Little.
I do think that we need to be careful/tone down in our expectations of Gordon as far as what he might do as a rookie likened to Little's rookie season.

Like you I want to see the product with my own two eyes first, before I can ever have any expectations.

Certainly he offers another option at this point and his size and athleticism are intriguing to say the least.

To Daman on Edwards: I would rather drape myself in Steelers gear while sitting on a Raven than have Braylon back on this team. Talk about disaster.

Purp Some of the stuff being thrown around about Gordon is insane. One thing I did like hearing was that he doesn't just catch the ball he absorbs it. There is nothing better for a rookie QB than a solid set of dependable hands.

I agree with that. None the less, it's better people are in this early stage comparing him to Moss rather than Rand Quaid.

What I don't understand is this: If someone else thinks that Gordon has "Moss-Like" talents, then why didn't they put in a 2nd Round bid?

Moss like talents don't come around often, and if there is a potential for that, I'd say it's worth a 2nd Rounder EASILY.

Yep, for all we know 30 other NFL teams put in a 2nd round bid on him (not likely but it's theoretically possible). We had the 2nd pick so we got him anyway.

All we know for SURE is that Buffalo didn't put in a 1st or 2nd round bid.

Browns’ Josh Gordon admits he lied about failed drug test at Utah

July 25, 2012, 8:06 PM EDT

Shortly after the Browns selected him with a second-round pick in the supplemental draft, receiver Josh Gordon claimed he hadn’t failed a drug test during his brief stint at Utah. Gordon now admits he was lying when he said that.

“Yeah, there was a failed test,” Gordon told the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The failed drug test at Utah was the third of his college career. He previously had two at Baylor before getting kicked out of school there. He now says his drug use is behind him.

“Coming out here, I have a new experience, a new foundation to get started and I don’t really plan on looking back in the past anymore. I only look toward my future,” Gordon said. “I’m definitely a changed person. The things that happened were such a long time ago and the fact that there’s this many people in such a prestigious organization like this, putting their jobs and their necks out on the line for a guy like me, it says a lot about them and their character.”

And it doesn’t say a lot about Gordon’s character that he couldn’t be honest about his drug use.

The fact that Gordon is coming clean now, admitting he lied a week ago...that is a good thing. The Browns already knew the truth when they picked him in the supplemental, so there is no reason for Gordon not to tell the truth.

I'm not sure on this...but I believe Gordon will be enrolled in the NFL's drug program which tests regularly?

Cleveland Browns receiver Josh Gordon comes clean on third failed drug test at Utah, vows again to stay drug-free

Mary Kay Cabot, The Plain Dealer The Plain Dealer
Wednesday, July 25, 2012, 7:11 PM
Updated: Wednesday, July 25, 2012, 10:48 PM

BEREA, Ohio -- Browns rookie receiver Josh Gordon came clean Wednesday, admitting that he did in fact, fail that third drug test at Utah last season. But he re-iterated that he's a changed man and that his marijuana use is in the past.

"Yeah, there was a failed test,'' he said. "But definitely something I want to get past. Coming out here, I have a new experience, a new foundation to get started and I don't really plan on looking back in the past anymore. I only look toward my future.''

Gordon admitted to The Plain Dealer on July 12th, the day he was taken by the Browns in the second round of the supplemental draft, that he failed two marijuana tests at Baylor: one in October of 2010 the day after an arrest and one in July of 2011 that got him suspended indefinitely.

He transferred to Utah, but had to sit out the season because of NCAA transfer rules. Gordon originally told The Plain Dealer on July 12 that he stayed clean at Utah, but NFL Network's Albert Breer reported that sources from four clubs told him that Gordon also failed a drug test there.

Gordon left Utah after the year and was trying to enroll at the University of Houston as recently as June 27, two days before he declared for the supplemental draft.

Browns coach Pat Shurmur said the club did its homework on Gordon and is confident he'll stay on the right path.,

"We don’t expect that to happen again and when we go through the process of deciding that we are going to draft this player, we have to come to the conclusion that we feel like this is behind him,'' said Shurmur. "Now, I will say this and it may apply to you, me, everybody, people have things that happen in their background, some adversity and I think it’s fair to say that if they can overcome that it makes them stronger in some ways. We anticipate that this will not be an issue, we are going to watch it closely and I think he understands how important it is to be a good teammate and be a good pro. That being said, I hope we don’t have to discuss it anymore.''

Gordon spoke of his determination to stay clean and repay the Browns for using their second-round pick in the 2013 draft on him.

"For me, just having an opportunity to be out here is definitely all the motivation I need to feel as though I need to stay on the right path,'' said Gordon. "Seeing as I'm already a guy with a spotty background, it would make no sense to go back to doing the stuff that I was doing. I mean I have no thoughts of ever trying to be that person or be the bad guy that everybody [was] like expecting him to be. I don't want to be that person.''

He said he told Browns General Manager Tom Heckert the same thing he's been telling everyone about his past.

"I'm definitely a changed person,'' he said. "The things that happened were such a long time ago and the fact that there's this many people in such a prestigious organization like this, putting their jobs and their necks out on the line for a guy like me, it says a lot about them and their character.

"I just want to meet them halfway on that agreement. And if they're going to be willing to do this for me, I want to just want to be willing to reciprocate with the same thing.''

Gordon (6-3, 224) passed the eyeball test on the first day of practice for rookies, quarterbacks and mostly first-year players. He looked comfortable catching passes from Brandon Weeden, Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace. But he'll have to take it easy early in camp after pulling a quad muscle during his pro day July 10.

"I was going the pace or the tempo that we were going out there,'' Gordon said. "I know we're gonna pick it up a lot more. But because of the leg and whatnot, I'm definitely taking it in smaller steps, baby steps to get there. Just heeding our trainers, (who) want to make sure we do all the things the right way so I can come back with a full recovery.''

This is the statement (linked from his own article) that's got pft Michael David smith all b-hurt:

Quote:

“The whole time I was in Utah, I never ended up testing positive for any administrative test given by the administrative people there,” Gordon said. “It was just their choice to test me and just make sure I was staying clean.”

After the NFL.com report was published, Gordon told the Plain Dealer that the quote was accurate, although he declined to elaborate.

If you can't read between the lines on that, well, let's just say you're not a great communicator. Gordon also never "admitted that he lied." I don't think he has to.

I would have enjoyed if he had said "I'm not here to talk about the past."

That is a whole lot of writing about something that doesn't matter at this point, and so little about actual football
Man, I really hope that these are the last articles we see about this.

clev...Gordon did not have to say anymore about that question, if didn't want to...BUT HE DID.

Just guessing here, but it might be that Gordon is getting some counseling about how to change. A good start would be "not to lie" or make convoluted comments such as the one you sighted above.

Everyone, including the Plain Dealer knew Gordon's comment was a lie and it's likely Gordon was advised that the media was not "that stupid" and the question would not go away until Gordon answered it honestly.

Gordon went back and corrected the record, answering the question honestly and I see that as a good start for someone attempting to change their ways. It is much easier to tell the truth than to think up another lie to cover up the lie he told above.

When I first read Gordon's "administrative test given by the administrative people" comment, I knew he doing his best not to answer the question honestly.

But the story here is not about that comment...it's about the individual doing his best to change. Coming clean with the hometown newspaper is a good start, IMO.

If Gordon doesn't change, his NFL career will be a short one.

well, Randy Moss also got kicked out of a BCS school for smoking pot. perhaps Gordon follows his example and dominates in his rookie year (of course, Randy had this little thing of absolutely crushing the competition when he was at Marshall).
