Got my first tattoo a couple weeks ago. Got something for my Dad who passed away this pass December. I shocked my wife by getting as I had said I would never get a tattoo, because there was nothig I liked enough to have on my body forever. Im dont for know until we have kids and then I might get something for them.

Also everybody that said they didnt hurt lied lol. Hurt like a mother. Got it on my left shoulder/back. It's a John Deere tractor like the one he had with R.I.P Dad in the smoke coming out of the stack.

Was trying to post a pic but not really sure how.

Sorry about your dad...

I have a tat on my right shoulder blade, it's a hill with three crosses and ISA 40:31 under it... I got it when I was in college... the outline hurt pretty bad, but the coloring wasn't so bad... hardest part was keeping it clean and covered for a couple weeks while it healed.

Have never given a thought to getting one.

Keep thinking about the 22 year old hardbody girl who gets a tramp stamp on the small of her back and what it will look like when she's 80

^^^ that

I've never wanted one, and yeah, when you're 80, it probably would look funny. I don't care for them personally, mostly the ones that have no meaning.

Aldo getting one in remembrance of his father is for a good reason. It has meaning. But the random ones you see that pretty much mean nothing IMO are stupid.

My brother has a ton. A couple have a real meaning, the rest are just random dumb things. I think I may be the only guy in the gym I belong to without one.

LOL, who's gonna see it when she's 80? I don't have any tats, and never really considered getting one because, like Ado said, there wasn't anything that central to my existence that I could think of a tat for. I do think a John Deere tractor is a fine tribute to your Dad, Ado. Sorry for your loss.

Nope. Don't really see the point to them. To each his (or her) own though.

LOL,, good point, perhaps an 80 year old man?

Anyway, the reason the original poster got a tat was in honor of his father and I think highly of that. But I loved my father also but he didn't believe in Tats so for me to get one for him,, wouldn't sit well with him.

He's in my heart and in my memory,, for me, that's where he will remain. I think he'd like that.

Oh,, and as to the original poster,, sorry for the loss of your father. it's a hard thing to deal with.

Yeah, my father died almost 40 years ago, after 25 years with the Cleveland police. I have thought of a bicep tat with his badge & badge number, but I realized how much he'd hate it. God forbid I ever came home with a tat or worse, a piercing - gawd, he'd rip it out of my ear and say "what the hell's wrong with you?!?".

I know a girl who has one, and she's now pushing 40 ...... and it's getting a little bent out of shape.

I also saw this one really big women in the store the other day ..... and she had one that flopped out when she bent down to get something. Yikes. It was scary.

I also think about this girl I used to date. She had this little tattoo on her ...... well ......her very, very lower abdomen ......

It was a tattoo of a cherry, and it said "Gone forever".

I have visions of her as an 90 year old woman, in the nursing home ......... with some young intern changing her bedpan ......

"Permanent Proof of Temporary Insanity," no thank you.

With that said, I have a couple cousins with something ridiculous like 80-85% of their bodies' covered with ink.

One of them has The Four Horsemen of the Apocalyse acrossed his whole back and he weighs in the 300's---so its a huge piece.

His brother is even bigger, standing like 6'5" or 6'6" and 300+, and his ink is all over his body. Full sleeves, up and down doth legs, on his back, abdomen. A really imposing guy....

They definitely look cool with ll the ink. And I have seen a lot of tattoos that I liked...

But I just don't like the idea of getting a tattoo myself. Not for me.

My dad didnt mind tattoos as long as they werent obnoxious. He didnt have any but he did have a piercing. Now that im done and with how everybody knows I hate needles and stuff. I can picture him laughing his arse off as I got, especially since it hurt so much. I am with you guys in that a tattoo without meaning doesnt make sense.

The johne deere tractor was because he farmed and its the same style tractor he had that is mine now. Im considering restoring.

Thanks for the condolences guys.

Sounds cool.

I've had an idea for a 1/2 - 3/4 sleeve for many years now that I'd like to get, but I have other stuff I'd prefer to spend my money on. Maybe further down the road.

When she's 80 that tram pstamp will be sagging down by her ankles, so more will see it than you think.

Ado, sorry for your loss ... and you picked a fine time to get one. I am sure he is smiling down from whatever field he is working right now.

I have two....a half sleeve on my left arm and a Spider-man on my upper right arm.

When I have more money I'll complete my left arm (getting tattoo's near Chicago ain't cheap).

I never thought I'd get a tattoo but I wanted to get one for my cousin that died in a car accident about 6 years ago. My sister has 6, wife 2, nephew 5, niece 4 and dad 1 (My dad just got "Jesus Help Me" on the back of his hand).

Whether they have meaning or just artsy, I think they're pretty neat. Except anything on the neck or legs. I don't know.....leg tattoo's just irk me.

One of my dearest friends is a tattoo artist and while he has interesting stories of the different tattoo's and piercings he's done to college girls in his time, the allure to get one on my body hasn't been strong enough to say, "Greg, give me a _____. It wouldn't cost me a dime but nonetheless it's still not somewhere I've ever been willing to go. Maybe because like others I've not thought of anything I wanted permanently on my body but whatever it is, I'm tattoo free.

I have one on my left arm of a wolf, and have been looking at getting a cross on my right arm with a ribbon around it that reads "Only god Can Judge Me", I have it drawn out, I just need to find the time and money to go get it done.

I have no problems with them obviously, and the only thing I told our son was that if your going to get them, put some thought into it, don't do it on impulse, and until you know what career you plan on having, you best get them where they can be covered easily. He's 25 now, and has his upper arm done in a tribal art, and then "Psalms 23:4" printed on his wrist.

Pain is a relative thing...............

I have one on the back of both shoulders. a half sleeve on my left arm. Almost a half sleeve on my right arm. One on the left chest and one on the right chest.

I'd have to count them all individually to give you a total and I really don't feel like doing all that.

But as far as pain goes, it really didn't bother me that much. I had major back surgery and actually need a couple more of them. So the pain of the tatoos really didn't seem all that much in comparison. Actually, I got several tatoos which is the half sleeve on my left arm all in one sitting. I'm guessing it's between 8-10 including the band.

I waited until later in life to get almost all of them. Each one is more art that has special meaning to me. I didn't take them lightly and all are custom designed.

Art is subjective to, and to me, it's self-expressive art. But to each their own......

Thats why I got mine on my shoulder. The company I work for doesnt mind tattoos even though we work directly with customers every day. A couple guys have sleeves. But I didn't want one that everyone could see unless I wanted to show them.

Pitt-sorry about the back. I was told i would probably need surgery for my herniated disc but wouldn't do it. Got the epidurals for now.

I sorta have the itch to get more but I am still in the boat as before I want something that I know I will be happy with 30a yrs from now. That why I will prob wait until I have kids and get something done for them.

I have 4. I got my dolphin when I was in the Navy for crossing the equator and the international date line (Golden Shellback). I have the thespian masks for my Hungarian heritage, a celtic tribal, again for heritage reasons. And then I have my Navy anchor with the American flag and the Navy flag crossed with 2 stars, one for my service, one for my grandfathers service in WW2.

Some hurt, but most didn't. It can get a little tender when they are getting in the softer areas, but overall wasn't painful for me.

Haha I got a kick out of that- not that I have room to talk- but the rapper (even if one of the greats) on a unicorn bit is too far when you're being serious.

I got two. The first one I got at the age of 19 is massive. Shoulder to shoulder below my neck and halfway down my back of a Chi Rho with olive branches going the outside. I'm not even Christian anymore but don't regret that tat. The color is awesome and I find personal philosophical relevance to it. If there was a tattoo I'd come close to regretting- which I still don't- it's the foghorn leghorn tattoo on my right shoulder. Top of rotator cuff halfway down to the elbow. It's just a black sketch now and looks like a . prison tat. I've had it three years and still need to get it colored in and throw a favorite quote of mine below it. I told my mom when I got it, "It's a reminder not to take myself too seriously." To which she replied, "That's funny. We never did that in the first place!"

It was a tattoo I got after my dad's second wedding under substantial influence, but I've always dug the Looney Tunes. At least it's not Spongebob or Bob the Builder! And if you think that's bad, my buddy- who got a tattoo the same time I did- ended up getting a Scorpio sign on his arm. I realized a few months later when I was making fun of the horoscopes section of the paper, "Dude. You know you're actually a virgo?"
