Belgian track cyclist Gijs Van Hoecke won't be around for the closing ceremonies at the London Olympics.
Van Hoecke was removed from the Games by the Belgian Olympic Committee after images of him appearing drunk were published by The Daily Mail.
The photos show the 20-year-old being carried into a taxi outside a London nightclub. Van Hoeck has his eyes closed and hi; clothes are soaked.
The Belgian Olympic Committee called the incident "deplorable."
Van Hoecke expressed regret for the actions and where he chose to celebrate his experience at the Olympics.
"What happened is a pity. I am sorry, this should not have happened," Van Hoecke told RTBF television. "But I also think that after two years of relentless work, I have the right to let my hair down. It would have been better if it had not happened here in London.
"I chose the wrong moment. Having said that, it was outside the Olympic Village, I wasn't disturbing other athletes, they didn't say anything about it."
The night on the town came after Van Hoecke competed in the omnium and team sprint competitions.
He finished 15th in the omnium, and Belgium was ninth in the team sprint.
Imagine if he won gold...

I've been there...though it's been many, many years. It's embarrassing but it's a part of growing up. Too bad his life lesson is plastered all over the Internet for the world to see. Oh well.
Hey, at least that proves I could get kicked out of the Olympics like all other world class athletes.

I know I am... I came home early because my wife is sick and have to watch NCIS  Love the show.. but miss being able to watch live olympics!
Have to wait two more years... and to be honest, I just don't get into the winter olympics as much

Not sure how it ended in the medal count but I heard on Saturday that if the US women were there own country, they would have finished 5th in gold medals in the world.

The same here..I think The reason I like the winter Olympics better is because I watch more tv due to the weather...and the sports seem faster and more exciting..jmo...

10. Michael Phelps. Just, wow. (!) He became THE most decorated Olympian in the history of the Modern Games.... coming back from a disappointing 4th place finish in his first event, to dominate the headlines of the first week of competition. Mark Spitz made history in 1972, and now even he can't compare.

So... yeah- you damn skippy... these Games were Historic.

I just don't really care about the olympics.
Maybe my opinion is skewed a bit.
(No, I didn't watch any of it)
I just think solo events aren't time tested...
It's been 30 years and people still talk about the US Olympic Hockey TEAM that won.
In 30 years, are people going to be making movies about Usain Bolt? Maybe. But will they star Kurt Russel? I certainly hope so...

Different strokes for different folks - no matter.
I watched a total of about 10 minutes of the olympics - friday, as we were waiting to leave for the weekend. Saw the .......dunno what it was called - the 6 mile swim I guess. Er, I saw about 10 minutes of it.
My wife? She was glued to the t.v. for 2 weeks - the dvr should've been smoking - when we left for the weekend, she had it set to record everything. She loved/loves it.

There's nothing wrong with that.
I consider it like car racing and some of the other sports I don't watch. I respect what they do, but it's boring to me.
I watched basketball and a bit of the women's soccer, but outside of that I had no interest. Watching dudes swim in a pool isn't exciting to me. I understand the hard work they put in, and respect that, but it's not worth my time to watch.
Same goes for NASCAR. I love the idea of the driver and his team working together, and how they're in his ear the whole time he's on the track working. It's just incredibly boring to watch.
Don't feel bad, you're not belittling these athletes by not watching.

Rulon Gardiner: heavyweight wrestling dark horse. Love his story. Greg Louganis: double gold- on springboard AND platform. After hitting his head, and competing with a concussion. I think more than anything else, I'm addicted to the drama. Especially the stories that unfold over a number of days. Mist May Treanor and Carrie Walsh come to mind. So many matches, so many chances to lose the 3-peat. Ashton Eaton, competing in 10 events over 2 days. Unreal. Dude has to be the most in-shape athlete on the planet. Women's water polo team. (This is one brutal-azz sport, kids. My HS swim team used WP matches to get a jump start on the official swim season, and let me tell you- it's really, REALLY hard to tread water, swim the length of the pool, set up to pass or take a shot, and fight off some jerk who's hanging all over you and trying to drag you under the surface!) Even so, I didn't watch any basketball until the finals. I can see that any time. I love the O for the sports that we DON'T get to see. Maybe I'll start saving up for a trip to Rio. Be there in person. Man.... the Olympics in Rio.... best party I'll never remember!

Shooting! The Three-Position Rifle wasn't exhilarating or anything, but holy smokes was that impressive!
Shooting at a target the size of a quarter from 50 meters, and having your score determined by being mere millimeters from center using only iron sights - no scopes!.... incredible.
Even better that the American woman from Pennsylvania completely ran away with the Gold
As for the solo events comment..... the Olympics is ALL ABOUT the solo events! It's ALL ABOUT the individuals.
The team stuff is good, but to me it is nowhere near being as impressive or entertaining as the solo events. In a team event, if you screw up, a teammate might be able to cover for you. In a solo event, if you screw up, that's it. You have to be perfect all the time. THAT takes skill, dedication, and discipline.
