Jags to allow fans to bring own food into EverBank Field, tell us what you think!

Submitted by Drew Dixon on July 27, 2012 - 11:10am Drew Dixon's Blog

The Jacksonville Jaguars will allow fans to bring their own food into EverBank Field for this year's home games against other NFL teams.

Here's the announcement from the Jags from their website www.jaguars.com.The franchise inserted the new policy near the end of a mention in the "notebook" area of the Internet site.

“Food is permitted inside EverBank Field for Jacksonville Jaguars home games provided that it is unwrapped and placed inside a one-gallon clear plastic bag no larger than 11-inch-by-11-inch (standard freezer bag),” the policy states. “All food items are subject to visual inspection and may be subject to a more thorough inspection if deemed necessary. Stadium security and the Jacksonville Jaguars reserve the right to deny any food item from entering the gates. No outside liquids or beverages will be permitted to enter EverBank Field. If food or beverage is required for medical purposes, please contact the Jaguars Fan Services Department.”

It's the first time in the history of the NFL in Jacksonville that fans can bring their own food into the stadium. We're soliciting comments from fans.

If they allow fans to bring their own beer, I'll be a Jags fan.

Sorry Browns

"Is beer fluid?"

"Of course, it's got all that wet stuff in it."

It isn't allowed already? I just assumed all pro sports teams let people bring food in.

My grandfather had season tix back in the day and he said you were allowed to roll coolers in. I seriously grew up in the wrong Browns era.

same for Indians games at Muni. we'd bring paper grocery bags of food out to the bleachers and setup a buffet line.

I remember doing that. Dad loved Kenny Kings. They had the first KFC franchise in Cleveland, but still went by the name Kenny Kings. This must have been in 61- 62-63.....we'd stop, grab a bucket of chicken, then drive to the game, grab a beverage, then dig in picnic style.

I remember doing the same thing as recently as the early 90's. Back then, I'd get home from work and say "Wanna go to the Indians' game?" to my wife, and off we'd go. We would stop at the KFC on West 117th, pick up a bucket, and head down to Muni. Seven bucks each for upper reserve (section 23, behind home plate), tip the beer guy so he comes back, and we'd have a great evening, win or lose. I miss those days.

Food wasn't allowed in 07. They aren't going to say anything if you walk in with a bag of peanuts or something, but you can't carry in a box of chicken.

If you did, they didn't see it or you got lucky someone didn't turn you away.

I see families bringing in food every once in a while at sporting events. Just last week a hippie family was pulling apples and other fruit out of their backpacks at Wrigley.

I wouldn't expect to bring buckets of fried chicken or a keg of beer...but I'd be shocked if someone didn't let me bring a sandwich or two if I was with my kid.

Drinks are another story...I understand why they're not allowed.

You can take bottled water and pop into the Reds game as long as the seal isn't broken.

I work security for the Reds. You can bring in food as well. People do it all the time.

Maybe you are right and I am learning something here. Not that I am going to bring food in. I eat before and after the game and do enjoy the tradition of a stadium dog with mustard around the half.

Well....according to CB website.....I didn't see where it says you can or cannot bring food in. Its not in the permitted pdf or prohibited pdf. The prohibited says no softside coolers or any kind along with a million other things. I guess if you want to carry in a clear bag with sandwiches, you could.

Yup, in the old days of Muni it was allowed. We'd bring thermos jugs in with hot chicken soup for those really really cold days.. It was great..

From a fans perspective, I can see it being a really great thing but some idiot will abuse it and it will go away.

From a Business standpoint, it's a vendor killer. If I'm a food vendor at that stadium, I'm getting the hell out of there or a much lower kick back to the stadium of what I sell because I'd expect my sales to drop.. I'd want the percentage paid to be a vendor to go down as well,

Revenues will drop for food purchases. I don't know how much money that would involve, but I''m not thinking its chump change.

Things were better off in the good old days. You could assume people would have respect and not be likely to be bringing in a bomb or some poison or about to commit terrorism.
Reading this is making me nostalgic for some never happened imagined experience where one could spend a day at a stadium and have home cooked food with friends.

It would have been the good old days. There was a day in this country when cause and effect, and consequences were more directly attributed to the primary cause. ( What?) I mean, there never would have been BP compensating a bunch of folks, ( I mean everyday folks like u and me who I've met ) getting compensation for sales they did not get. I think it's total mularchy, life brings problems, nobody has a right to sales that don't happen, and that's the way it should be.

If stadium vendors don't get as many sales, tough luck. ( Well it doesn't directly effect you? TL? , actually a similar situation would be pretty close to home) ( Me in the vendors position).
In the good old days, you didn't have situations in life where ( whatever) the govt, the school, the stadium, the wal-mart, the city bus system, the whatever take your pick, you didn't have situations in life where these worldly groups would try to treat people, treat Americans, like we're a bunch of cattle.

( OHH! that's an extreme exxageration of the situation TL? ) A little bit, a little bit, but you know what I mean.
It didn't used to BE this way, it doesn't have to be this way.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.
