As many of you might remember my 18 year old daughter was killed in a car wreck 1 year ago Monday . We were given the opportunity to create a memorial playground and garden for her in one of our local parks . I am proud to say that we have the dedication of both on Sunday . We added 3 new pieces of playground equipment and a beautiful memorial garden with granite benches so that Mothers and Fathers can watch their children play while being surrounded with all of the wonderful flowers that we could fit in the garden.

This project has given my wife a strong sense of purpose at a time when all purpose was stripped away and although it will be bittersweet to watch the children at play it is such a fitting memorial to my daughter as she adored children . One of the hardest things to deal with has been the thought of just what a wonderful mother she would have been and living with the fact that it will never be . The park will give her friends and family a place to go and visit old memories and someday her friends will bring their children and think about Tori so in that way she will live on in our hearts .

That's great, IRE. Those kids will be lucky if that playground is 1/10 as beautiful and as wonderful as your daughter.

What a beautiful way to honor your daughter's life. Bringing joy to others is one of the greatest gifts we can give... and to do it in your daughter's name doubles the beauty of your gesture.

This is very, very good stuff.

Glad to hear about the dedication. Hope you're doing better this year than last, and next year than this. Now people from all around the neighborhood will know of your daughter, which is more than can be said about a lot of us who just go through our lives anonymously. Good job with the playground.

Congratulations on finding a beautiful way to memorialize your daughter.

Awesome idea IRE. Your daughter will always live on in your hearts, but now you've created a tangible memory honoring all that made her beautiful to those who knew her and to those who will come to know her. Congrats and peace to you both.

Do you mind if I ask what park and it's location? I may be on a trip through Ohio this weekend and maybe some of the other dawgs can stop by to provide some support....all the better.

What has made this even more special is the fact that her friends have been so involved in everything from the planning to the actual dirt and shovel work . These days when it seems we hear stories of young adults being so self centered and lazy it warmed my heart to see these young people stepping up and working their butts off to leave a bit of themselves in this wonderful place . They have opened up their hearts to my wife and I and made us a part of their families . We view it as one last gift from our daughter who gave us so many blessings in her short life that her friends would become so important to us .

That's magnificent my friend. Tori lives on, and not just in your hearts. All those parents who use the park, for years to come, will notice the memorial and wonder who she was, but will know she had parents who loved their child as much as they love theirs.

I suspect a few of them will give their child a extra special big hug once they are done playing .

That's pretty special.

X2 what a wonderful thing you have turned something so horrible into. May her memory bring joy to many for decades to come.

I don't have words for this. It cannot replace your daughter, but what an incredible gift to help heal and memorialize.

Awesome.

As I said before I'm the father of an incredible 16 month old daughter. I'll give her an extra hug tonight.

Aloha
