Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson was arrested Saturday night for misdemeanor domestic battery, according to Davie (Fla.) Police Department captain Dale Engle.

Johnson is in police custody, and will have to see a judge before he can be released.

The argument started while the couple was in their car. As they pulled into their driveway, Johnson's wife claims he leaned over and headbutted her, while Johnson claims his wife leaned forward and they bumped heads.

Johnson's wife has a laceration on her forehead. She was treated on the scene and transported to the hospital.

The call to police came at Johnson's residence.

The couple was married on July 4.

I was thinking more like a shining example of a human being.

Well, that goes without saying.

Johnson has always said that the antics he did on the field didn't matter because he was a hard worker, a good teammate, and he never got in trouble off the field. Things have changed.

So now we're all going to rush to judgment on this man? None of us were there, none of us know what happened. It is amazing to me how high and mighty people can be.

Well, what we do know is that there was an argument and Johnson's coconut lacerated his wife's head.....and she called the police.

DAVIE, Fla. – Dolphins receiver Chad Johnson was arrested Saturday on a domestic violence charge, accused of head-butting his newlywed wife during an argument in front of their home outside Miami.

Johnson and his wife, Evelyn Lozada, were at dinner and she confronted him about a receipt she had found for a box of condoms, said Davie police Capt. Dale Engle. The argument got heated and continued on the drive home, he said.

When they arrived in their driveway in Davie, the 34-year-old Johnson head-butted Lozada, she told police. Lozada, who is on the reality show, "Basketball Wives," was treated at a hospital for a cut to her forehead, Engle said.

Johnson, who changed his last name back to Johnson from Ochocinco after his July 4 wedding to Lozada, was being held Saturday night in Broward County Jail where he will remain until he can appear before a judge, which Engle says might not be until Monday. He is charged with simple battery, domestic violence, which is a misdemeanor.

Team officials were "aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering of relevant information," Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene said.

Johnson's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, declined to comment.

Helmet to helmet contact is considered a serious illegal action in the NFL..

I would assume head to head contact between a couple would be considered as serious in the domestic courts...

If the cops considered it anything less..than Chad wouldn't be spending the weekend in the county jail...

It could be mutual battle and the man is going to be arrested or made to leave the house 95 percent of time. Evelyn Lozado is not the most stable individual and I hate to pigeon hole a whole segment of a race but I have a lot of experience with latino women and everyone was a nut job.

You are asked to leave the house if the cops feel that is the best way to avoid a physical confrontation..

Chad was taken into custody..Right or wrong..She claims he head butted her..And if there was any doubt..he would be out...

There are many times the Woman goes to jail for the same thing...I have not stated he was in the wrong or if she was...Guess we will have to wait for more info to come out...

Dolphins cut Chad Johnson

Well, it was fun while it lasted.

Receiver Chad Johnson’s stint with the Dolphins has ended. A league source tells PFT that the Dolphins have decided to cut the veteran wideout.

The news was first reported by Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com.

It didn’t happen because of poor performance (although based on Johnson’s performance in the preseason opener it may have, eventually). It happened because Johnson was arrested on Saturday night for head-butting the woman he married nearly a month ago.

The move comes not long after coach Joe Philbin said he hadn’t spoken to Johnson but planned to, sooner rather that later. Per the source, Philbin and Johnson met before Johnson was cut.

It’s unknown whether and to what extent any portion of the meeting was captured by the Hard Knocks cameras and microphones.

At least we now know conclusively the answer to the two question marks on the back of that Hall of Fame blazer Johnson once wore on Monday Night Football. With Chad likely out of chances in the NFL, he’ll make it to the Hall of Fame in 20whenhellfreezesover.

I hope some of the younger guys in the nfl start to realize some things.

How was I being high and mighty? Wasn't a slam on Latinas. Latina women have a reputation for being hot tempered and crazy. Sometimes that is a good thing. It can be exciting sometimes because there are other things that they have a reputation for that I will not mention on here.

I am actually doing the exact opposite of rushing to judgemen. I am saying there are other possibilities also.

I've always felt that stereotyping was a rush to judgement.

If the woman has the cut on her, the man is going to get arrested.

I don't know how Florida law is, but in Ohio if the police come to the house for a domestic disturbance, someone has to leave the house for the night. Its not an indication of who is wrong or right, just a safety measure and the majority of the time it will be the man who has to leave.

In this case, Chad was arrested because they thought he was in the wrong. That doesn't mean he was.

Rep: Lozada files for divorce from Johnson

NEW YORK (AP) — Evelyn Lozada is ending her 41-day-old marriage to Chad Johnson after the football star was arrested for allegedly head-butting her over the weekend.

A rep for the VH1 reality star confirmed reports that Lozada filed for divorce Tuesday.

"Given the recent events that have taken place, Evelyn has decided to file for divorce and move on with her life," Lozada's lawyer, Michael B. Gilden, told the TV show "The Insider" in a statement.

Johnson released his own statement — the first since his arrest — on his official website, OCNN, and reaffirmed his love for Lozada.

"I am going to let the legal process run its course. I wish Evelyn nothing but the best, I have no negative words to say about her, the only thing I can say is I love her very much," said Johnson, who was dumped by the Miami Dolphins a day after the arrest.

"I will continue to be positive and stay training hard for another opportunity in the NFL. I appreciate all my fans and supporters and if I have disappointed you in any way, you have my sincerest apologies. Once again I will continue to stay positive and appreciate all the support during this tough period in my life."

The marriage imploded Saturday after an argument between the two ended with Lozada being treated at a hospital for lacerations to her head.

According to Davie, Fla., police, Lozada found a receipt for condoms and confronted Johnson about it at dinner. The argument continued during their drive home, and when they arrived at their driveway, he allegedly head-butted her.

In a 911 call released by authorities, a neighbor told police that there was an incident involving a "high-profile person" and is heard telling Lozada to wipe the blood from her head. Lozada is heard saying that Johnson head-butted her, and the caller says Lozada will probably need stitches.

However, Johnson told police she head-butted him.

Earlier Tuesday, Lozada said in a statement: "I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me, it is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well."

Johnson is a six-time Pro Bowler who last season was on the New England Patriots.

His July 4 wedding to Lozada — whom he courted publicly on the VH1 series "Basketball Wives" — was taped for a spinoff show called "Ev & Ocho." It was due to debut Sept. 3, but VH1 shelved it after Johnson's weekend arrest.

Johnson — formerly known as Chad Ochocinco — and Lozada were prominently featured in the recent first episode of HBO's "Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Miami Dolphins."

Lozada was the former fiancee of former NBA player Antoine Walker and has been one of the main stars of "Basketball Wives," which also features Shaunie O'Neal, the former wife of former NBA star Shaquille O'Neal.

In court papers filed on Tuesday, Lozada says the two had a premarital agreement but asks Johnson pay for her attorney fees associated with the divorce.

Besides ending her marriage, Lozada also was mourning the loss of her brother-in-law, who walked her down the aisle and was to be a part of the "Ev & Ocho" show.

So in the over/under, what did you have lasting longer, his marriage or his NFL comeback?

What if she actually did headbutt him? Would there be any way to tell without video evidence?

It could get dropped.

But the damage to him has already been done.

Barring injury, is anyone else going to pick him up NOW?

Everyone wants to mock him, because he's been a guy who's asked for attention his whole career...

But this is the first thing he's ever legally done wrong, and he gets the boot for it?
