He was hurt in an organized team activity. (weight training)
He cannot go on the PUP.
I am pretty certain that OTAs prior to training camp do not count towards placing a player on the PUP.
in fact, he is currently on the pre-season PUP (and if remains there can go on the regular season PUP): http://espn.go.com/blog/afcnorth/tag/_/name/phil-taylor

2. Loss of defensive tackle Phil Taylor. The 2011 first-round pick is on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list after having surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle in May. The hope is Taylor will be able to return in the first half of the season and perhaps as early as Week 7 at Indianapolis.

I thought that a guy injured in any team activity was not eligible for the regular season PUP list. I could be wrong, and they may have changed the rules with the new CBA .... but I thought that Heckert and/or Shurmur spoke of putting Taylor on the new IR list, and being able to them bring him back mid-season.

only thing I can find Shurmur talking about Phil is putting him on the preseason PUP and eventually extending him to the regular season PUP: Quote:
You saw that Rubin, Evan and Phil Taylor are PUP. Phil, of course, will be extended. Rubin and Evan will be back quickly.

It seems like he is version two of Danny Woodhead.

Except he is way faster.
One other thing about Demps that hasn't been mentioned....he is a heck of a punt blocker. His speed off the edge is pretty amazing, and he knows how to take the perfect angle to not slam in to the kicker. The Pats are going to block some kicks with that guy, if they don't use him returning them.
Figures the Pats...good teams make good moves....but who knows, maybe we made a call and the demand for the kid made us a non factor.
He is a good enough player, with elite speed that I would be shocked if at least 3/4 the league wasn't calling his agent.
Bill and Urban became close while Urban was at Florida. Urban and key members of his staff were off to Mass for 2-3 day coaching visits. Bill picked Urbans brain for tidbits on the O...
I am sure Bill called Urban for the skinny, and I am sure Urban and Jeff talked.

Right. Which is why I said version two. Usually the second version of things is better.

My guess is some people want the NFL to be like the NBA.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I don't think Demps going to the patriots is a smart move. He won't do much there.
