The Cleveland Browns made several roster moves, the team announced Saturday afternoon. The Cleveland Browns today were awarded linebacker Tank Carder off waivers from Buffalo and defensive lineman Ishmaa’ily Kitchen (pronounced: ish-MAY-lee) off waivers from Baltimore. In addition, the team waived defensive lineman Brian Sanford and waived/injured defensive lineman Scott Paxson. The team also signed eight players to its practice squad. Linebacker Solomon Elimimian (pronounced: EL-ahh-mem-EE-en) who was waived by Minnesota on August 25, joins defensive lineman Ronnie Cameron, wide receiver Josh Cooper, linebacker Benjamin Jacobs, fullback Brad Smelley and offensive linemen Garth Gerhart, Jarrod Shaw and Jeff Shugarts, who were each waived by the Browns yesterday. Carder was a fifth round (147th overall) selection by the Bills in the 2012 draft. He appeared in all four preseason games and recorded nine tackles. A four-year letterman at TCU (2008-11), Carder was a two-time Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year (2010, 2011) and was named the 2011 Rose Bowl MVP . I really don't know anything about him, but I wonder, why take a guy in the 4th then cut him. Maybe they were trying to sneak him on to the PS.

The Buffalo Bills cut two of their 2012 draft choices on Friday, and neither of them made it through waivers today.
The Cleveland Browns claimed linebacker Tank Carder (fifth round), and the Minnesota Vikings claimed offensive lineman Mark Asper (sixth round). The St. Louis Rams also claimed veteran defensive tackle Kellen Heard.
To make room for Asper, the Vikings released offensive lineman Patrick Brown, who played all 16 games last season as a backup tackle and special-teams player.
Cleveland and Minnesota clearly are in rebuilding modes. Carder gives the Browns 15 rookies on their roster.
"He's a guy that we really liked coming out of college," Browns coach Pat Shurmur said. "We feel like he can play multiple positions inside and out."
ProFootballTalk.com overlord Mike Florio reported the Miami Dolphins also put in a waiver claim for Carder, but the Browns had priority.

I'll be glad when we are to the point where our draft choices aren't automatic locks to make the team.

All of our Draft picks made the team (including Acho on the IR and Smelly on the PS).

I am actually stunned that we went after another rookie. We have 3 untested players at LB right now, and we jut added a 4th.
I would have thought that we would have gone after someone with experience ..... but what do I know?

Don't worry Y'Town...our defensive coaches have 800+ years of NFL experience and will channel their knowledge ala Yoda to the young ones.
Seriously though...it will be nice to see some speed at LB for a change...even if they run really fast in the wrong direction.

I am thrilled to see some speed at LB. I am worried about their inexperience though. I read that either Fort or Robertson is slated to start opposite Maiava if JMJ cannot go in game 1. While I like both players, I really wish that they had more experience. Robertson was here last year though, on the practice squad ..... so maybe he'll get the call. My dream situation is that whichever rookie starts does such a great job that he can displace Maiava when JMJ returns to the lineup. I then hope that both of the rookies play so well that Fujita has to sit. It's nice to dream anyway, right?

If the rookies without the experience outplay the two guys with experience ...then you want the experienced guys to sit while the rookies start..
So the guys with the experience are not necessarily the better players...The inexperienced rookies could be way better....
And your worried..Why ?.....

I think our tackling will improve further. Right now we do too much chasing and reaching. I hope Ballpeens fire ants make it onto the field. LOL! But I like Fort and Carder. If the rooks play close to the older vets, start the youth. They have more upside once they get some of the green out.

College highlights are one thing, NFL highlights are another.
If the guy was all that, he wouldn't have been waived and hoped to clear waivers. Granted, he was a tough player at TCU, but this is the NFL. I wanna see him actually play before I get all excited.

Well , got to cheer about something.  I don't see the Browns attracting big-name free agents, when we are projected to win 2 games this year. So, I would love to see the underdog story this year be the Browns making the playoffs. Where somehow this team of 15 rookies pulls a rabbit out of the hat. I know, I know.

I agree with this. But the guy looks fast in the highlight clip.
He just kinda looks small...... Definitely not a replacement for Gocong IMO. My understanding is that the SSLB is usually a bigger guy who is matched up against the TE. More likely a WLB, but all the clips showed him playing the run. I wonder how this guy is in coverage.........

He has closing speed, high motor, and good nose for the ball. Plays well in space and like someone else said can pass defense. Not sure why he got cut. I'm happy we got him. It brings more athletic talent at LB. And he should do real well on special teams.

From just my observations the Bills appear to be more about discipline and staying in lanes.
We are more run to the ball east west. Which really makes me keep coming back to the question as to why we are so high on Fujita. The best our linebacking corps has looked was when we had JMJ and Robertson out wide flying to the ball.

I have said it before ... We [Juron] wants to run a pressure defense, but it takes the right peaces to run that type of defense. Will get there.

Since we are discussing backers. I gotta say, Craig Robertson looks like he may have the highest motor from a Browns backer I have seen since the return. Tank plays with that kinda motor he will hang.
After watching JMJ and Robertson, it makes Goncong and Fujita look like they are running in quicksand. Seriously watching our rookies this preseason, I kept thinking man is that what our backers supposed to look like? sure didnt see that last year. Now Carder supposed to be the fastest guy of the bunch.
I think the Range displayed by our backers is unique. Then you add the hustle from guys like Sheard, Rubin and Winn, this front 7 will make some mistakes but they should create more plays in the first few weeks than we saw all of last year.
One thing I will say, the last 4 years we have been the slowest team in football on both sides of the ball. That is no longer the case.
