No Kathleen Sibelius' address.
No Rahm Emmanuel's.
No Julian Castro's.
Or... (wait for the Elephant In The Room) Michelle Obama's?

Did we fold up our tents when Tampa closed down its shop? Or are we still engaged?
As you all know, I don't usually weigh in on politically- based threads. I have my own personal reasons for doing so. BUT... i couldn't help but notice that there has been an easily-discernible time-lag between the First Political Post following the start of the RNC, and the start of the DNC.
That's why I'm starting this thread.... without so much as a nod to one side or the other. Playing (personal) Politics was not my intent. All I wanted to do was open up the dialogue here in DawgTown regarding what the Dems are puttting forth.
Are you NOT performing the "due diligence" that I'm attempting, by giving equal time to both sides?
Or.... are you waiting for the first poster to open the floodgates? If that's the case, let me be The Gatekeeper. Gate's unlocked, Dawgs. Have at it.
You're great at playing The Political Game here at DT/EE. Time to give equal attention to the DNC

I watched some of it, but quite frankly, I know what this administration wants to do based on what they have done over the course of the past (almost) 4 years.
They can try to pretty it up and tie bows on it, but I know what their core principles are based on what they have done. I disagree with them.

For the first time in many years, I watched not one bit of either convention. I may check out Youtube for a clip of Clint talking to the empty chair. That probably was a hoot.

I watched neither the RNC nor will I watch the DNC convention. Neither party reflects my values, my political beliefs, and quite frankly the DNC is a collection, and always has been, a collection of motley fools who want to be all things to all people so much so that, in the end the people they want to help the most, they hurt the most and they don't even realize it. The DNC is the party that doesn't want to offend people so they drop God from their platform because obviously that won't offend anyone. And does this picture of Harry Reid frighten you?  He's bringing hellfire and brimstone to the convention!

I didn't watch either and actually am appalled at the amount of money they spend on the conventions and the whole election process in general. It's all a dog and pony show, that could all be summed up with 1 or 2 national debates, and a few newspaper articles.
Who really is going to get some new information that wasn't available before to make their decision?
It's not about what they plan to do for the country and it's citiizens, it is about what mud they can sling around about their opponent, and it goes back and forth slinging and defending, slinging and defending. It truly is a joke.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

I don't really like everything that Obama has done and Romney/Ryan is a pathetic ticket as well. Mostly you hear at these things is smoke that never happens.
Honestly, I might just vote for Obama based solely on Romney's plan to cut out the NEA entirely. Why would I vote to essentially eliminate my job? The NEA is paying to pick up the slack on the lack of funding that the state provides to our state university. Or as our university president put it, we aren't a state supported university but rather a state assisted one. 
Granted, a part of that lack of funding might (but not likely) fall on Obama as well.

I haven't read the other responses, but in my own worthless opinion, it's silly to comment really on either the RNC or DNC. We all know what it is. It's a love fest. Our guy is great, their guy is the devil. We stand for everything that's good, they stand for everything that's bad.
No one should be surprised by what any of the people (from either party) said at the convention.

I've watched both.
Last night I would say Marylands Gov OMalley needs to spend more time at Toastmasters.
Julian and Joaquin Castro were eye opening ... In that they represent the next guard of not only the democratic party, but the ever more engaged and growing Hispanic population.
Lastly, Michelle Obama nailed her speech. Content aside, she was comfortable and polished where Ann Romney just felt akward from the start with her line about the hurricane and never really gave off an inviting feeling of warmth.

I read this morning Ms. Obama did really well and to be honest it doesn't surprise me, she's the more polished of the two. But to hear her gush about how great her husband is doesn't improve my lot in life nor give me any hint that what he has accomplished in the last four demands another four.
It is for this nonsense I finished our remodeling of our bathroom instead. (note to self: never suggest buying a toilet that does not match the sink . . . )

Actually, both GW Bush and GHW Bush appeared together on video to the Convention. GHW Bush has Parkinson's and can barely walk. GW Bush is deeply devoted to his father, and he wasn't going to go without his father. Besides, with the Democrats eager to link Romney to Bush somehow, it would make little sense to give them ammunition, even if his father had been able to go.
Incidentally, this was the 1st Convention that GHW Bush has missed in decades. The younger Bush has stayed out of the limelight for the last 4 years, because he has said that he doesn't feel that it is becoming of a former President to publicly blast a current President. Frankly I think that he's been a pretty classy former President.

I saw some of last night-came home late from work.
Mrs Obama's speech was very good as well as the introduction from the military mom from Columbiana County her in our neck of the woods.
But the speech that was really funny and stood out other than the first ladies was Ted Strickland. He was definately picking a fight.

I do agree he has been rather classy as an ex-president in the sense that he is not blasting the current one, at least publicly, though I'm sure someone somewhere will find something to prove he wasn't this one time in this one setting in podunk texas...
I think ALL of our former presidents are good in this regard though. Even though Bill Clinton will speak up about things, I don't think its in the current political tone that exists in this country. It's very straightforward with facts to back up his point. I've always admired HW as well. I think he would have been a good president for another term if Clinton didn't come along. Bad timing... I much rather would have had him for 8 years than his son...

Jimmy Carter has been horrible in speaking out against Presidents.
GW Bush is very, very devoted to his father. His father loves going to Conventions. I am absolutely certain that his father's inability to go played a huge part in his not going,
Further, as I said, I'm sure that Bush didn't want to do anything to hurt Romney's chances. The Bushes appeared together in a video presentation, so he did "appear" in a way.

Nope...Politifact will "fact check" and determine that they were...well...mostly...sort of speaking the truth when looked at "in context".
Then the Obama campaign will launch a series of comments - driven by Chris Matthews - that they did not really say the words that came right out of their own mouths.

That might be debateable. Also, Republicans budget proposals are horrible and only focuses on spending cuts and not raising taxes.. ಠ_ಠ Yup sounds like the typical Democratic plan.. just raise taxes. Keep in mind, Antonio Villar is the mayor of Los Angeles, which by all counts is heading down the road towards bankruptcy.

I see that the Democrats just voted to put "God" and "Jerusalem" back into the platform. It took a 2/3 affirmative voice vote ....... but it sure sounded 50/50 to me.

I just heard it on the radio on my way home. So it's difficult to say but it sure sounded like at least 50/50 if not more for nay. That mayor made them do it three times and then shoved it down their throats that it was 2/3 yea.
I wish he'd have made them all move on opposing sides of the building based on their preference. That would have been interesting to see.

I almost had to drop a philosophy class in college because the prof had the worst case of side-mouth spittle you ever saw. That and he'd cough up loogies and slap them around in his mouth while he talked. When asking about his class it was always the first thing anybody mentioned.

I checked into both Michelle & Bill's speeches and I'll probably youtube Barack's ( I have a dinner meeting tonight) but honestly conventions are almost pointless to me. If you've been keeping up and reading etc you know the positions and the data regardless of what's being said. The most interesting thing that can happen is if one of the top people lies or distorts outright. Outside of that there's very little substantive to be gotten out of conventions.
If you're a true swing voter, well maybe this sort of thing matters. But I think this general election is going to be similar to Wisconsin's recall vote.They polled weeks before that vote and the vote came down almost exactly the same way. In other words, very few people were actual swing votes in areas that counted as the election drew near. The polls claim there's movement out there in this one but I suspect the VAST majority of people in this country are set in stone with regard to their vote. I think the number of actual swing voters in actual swing states is a mid-single digit percentage. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm not going on hard data here. Just my own observations. I think It's more a matter of how motivated the bases are. I guess in that light these conventions are important. But this far out from the election, I don't know that they'll mean much this cycle.

I don't even know that the Conventions are all that important to swing voters. Maybe the Republican Convention was, or more specifically, the speeches made by Ann and Mitt Romney, and Paul Ryan. (Who many swing voters may not have known)
I think that the debates will be far more important to swing voters.

I would be willing to bet that swing voters actually watched very little of either convention.
If the swing voters have kids, they have probably spent more time trying to get their kids ready to go back to school.
Hell, many of the swing voters may just stay hope ..... who knows? If so, then it becomes exclusively a turnout election, and a matter of which base is more excited to turn out and vote.
